I was struck by the contrasts. You can see a small make-shift Christmas Tree complete with lights, a wreath toping this humble symbol of the season that had been set by the homeless. You also see a little tea pot hooked up to the same electrical outlet as the tree. In addition the base of the very tall and highly decorated Christmas Tree in front of the city hall can be seen in the background. The simple little gesture by the homeless gave me pause, it brought back to me the very humble beginnings for which we celebrate Christmas. Velez Optioned to Fresno
2008-05-22 21:29:00 The Giants optioned Eugenio Velez to Fresno and called up Travis Denker Wednesday. Velez couldn't carry over the swing he had this spring into the regular season and had been struggling since the Giants left Arizona in March. He was hitting just .207 with 9 RBI and 11 runs scored. He did have 8 stolen bases which is tied for the team lead, but had only 1 hit in his last 18 at-bats and just wasn't becoming much of a factor offensively. Ray Durham has been getting the majority of the time at second base lately and playing well which has cut back on Velez's at-bats. Velez seemed to start wanting to pull the ball and try and hit it out of the ball park rather than going with pitches and putting his speed to work. The offensive struggles seemed to start affecting his defensive play as well at least one critical error that cost the Giants a game in early May, one that really contributed to the Giants most recent losing streak. 2008-01-09 00:35:00 by nscIn 2007 the Bulldogs will endure the losses of a handful of seniors. Fresno State's offense will bid adeu to both Clifton Smith and Ryan Wendell. On the defensive side of the ball the Bulldogs will say goodbye to Marcus Riley (ouch), Damon Jenkins, Tyler Clutts, and Charles Tolbert. On special teams the Bulldogs say goodbye to Clint Stitser and Kyle Zimmerman. Obviously there are more seniors moving on such as Shannon Dorsey and Jesus Tapia but the players listed above are the ones that will be the most important to replace. How Fresno State goes about replacing these key players may determine what happens on the field of play in 2008. Thanks to my friend Brandon who did Portland with me, I think I found a good one.I signed up for the Trail of 2 Cities half marathon in Clovis California on Nov 11th. Clovis which is located in northern Fresno county, is about a 3 hour drive south from where I live, so I'll spend the night before the race down there.I've never done this race before, but I've heard many good things about it .From reading the reviews, it seems to be well organized and you get lots of bang for your buck. We're talking pre & post race hot food, not one, but TWO shirts, finish medal, goodie bag, etc . All this for $40.00 ...Can't beat that!
