illo friday: packed

to avoid a jam-packed holiday vacation.... go in November!i actually find this painting funny! this is my first attempt in watercolor, ha! isay knows this.. and you may find familiar landmarks here..hehe.. although its a mix of different beaches in the Philippines.. nonetheless let me give travelers out there a tip. if you want some peace and quiet on your vacation, go here during the lean season. some locations classify them during June to December 15 and peak seasons are Dec.16 to summer. (this part of the world tho, our summer is April and May). prices are cheaper.. hotel+airfare. can you imagine i was able to see a flight to somewhere in the south (i wont tell yet) from manila, which costs only about 1,600 per person!? to convert, 34 euros or $37 USD. And this is two-way! and some may say.. "that's peanuts!" lol..sorry moogie.. *.* i just had to tell! hehe..so, can anyone guess where this is?----my dream vacation5" x 8" (orig.)watercolor + liquid paper

While I'm still trying to digest the notion from tonight's debate that, according to McBush, Pakistan was somehow "a failed state" before Musharraf took over, I would ask that we take a look at this clip of Brad Woodhouse on MSNBC from earlier today......and Jack Cafferty is showing a ton of guts to me for soldiering on in light of the loss of his wife - thoughts and prayers go with you, Jack - but ladies and gentlemen, he's absolutely right; it's not a liberal or conservative comment to say that Sarah Palin is an utter scatterbrain on the national stage (truly dangerous all the same, though) who should be a host on QVC right about now and not doing much else than that......and by the way, this is what happens when you compliment a Repug; I thought Jane Hamsher's summary here was good, and Think Progress said that Frank Luntz reported that his focus group was sympathetic when Obama talked about the war vs. McBush, though that shouldn't be a surprise (and again, we're talking ...

Friday Flash..New Haagen Daz Ice Cream Flavours
2008-09-26 15:42:00
Two more new Haagen Dazs flavours that hit the shelves this week in Nagoya.I spotted them in various supermarkets and convenience stores throughout the city. The first is Cafe Mocha, obviously a coffee flavoured icecream. Its fairly light with dashes of chocolate sauce liberally mixed in to boost the amount of caffeine. The second is English Milk Tea and like the Cafe Mocha tastes exactly as described.A thick milky creamy sweet tasting ice cream. It reminded me of the canned Royal Milk tea available here in virtually every corner vending machine. Both these flavours have a certain novelty value but personally I cant see myself going out of my way to buy them again given the other flavours available.
Friday Blues Funny - How To Sing The Blues
2008-09-26 14:00:00
This is an old joke, I have posted it before. Because it is a good one too, I'll post it again. I hope it makes you laugh. How To Sing the Blues1. Most Blues begin "woke up this morning."2. "I got a good woman" is a bad way to begin the Blues, unless you stick something nasty in right away: I got a good woman-with the meanest face in town.3. Blues are simple. After you have the first line right, repeat it. Then find something that rhymes. Sort of.I got a good woman-with the meanest face in town.I got a good woman-with the meanest face in town. She got teeth like Condoleeza Rice and she weighs 500 pounds.4. The Blues are not about limitless choice. You stuck in a ditch, you stuck in a ditch; ain't no way out.5. Blues cars are Chevies, Cadillacs and broken-down trucks. Other acceptable Blues transportation modes include Greyhound buses and southbound trains. Walkin' plays a major part in the Blues lifestyle. So does fixin' to die. Blues don't travel in Volvos, BMWs, or SUVs. Jet ...

HoffPOWER From the Daily Herald: The Cubs claim they still have questions heading into the playoffs. They may have found one answer Thursday night in Micah Hoffpauir. Even though the Cubs suffered a 7-6, ninth-inning loss to the New York Mets at rainy Shea Stadium, manager Lou Piniella was gushing about the performance of Hoffpauir, who may have sewn up a spot on the roster for the division series. The 28-year-old rookie went 5-for-5, including his first 2 major-league home runs. Hoffpauir also doubled home a run and singled twice, driving in 5 runs. "Impressive," said Piniella, who always perks up when a young player hits. "We're looking, we really are. We're looking for a couple spots. We're looking for a little offense. Put it this way: He'll be in the lineup tomorrow in Milwaukee." Hoffpauir was the Cubs' minor-league player of the year. He had cups of coffee with the big club earlier this year, and he didn't want to get ahead of himself about the postseason. "I'm not go...

ring around the rosies820 x 620 (orig.)MS Painti remember when i used to play with the kids on our block.. how we play for hours after school, on weekends and whenever classes are suspended.. it doesn't matter if it rains or not. one of my favorite game was patintero (a traditional game where one team will all be "it" and would only step on the lines on our street while the other team should run fast and pass all the "its" and reach from one side to the other without being tagged by the "its").we also used to play ring around the rosies, chinese garters and pretend restaurants or "house" (bahay-bahayan). in this game, we act like grown ups where our "food" are actually just leaves and twigs and stones.. somebody will play as a mom, a dad and the kids. i almost always wanted to be the mom because i used to be fond of collecting plastic utensils and plates and pack them all in a big box. thus the toys are mine so i wanted to be the one to take care of them.then i reached 10 and being...

Chicago Cubs: Great team, or the greatest team? From the Daily Herald: Wrigley Field, a place that had just been partying like it was 1999, suddenly was nearly void of noise. Out of the dugout popped Cubs manager Lou Piniella for a quick chat. "Lou went out there and asked Kerry what he wanted to do," Soto said. Their conversation went something like this: "I'll get three strikeouts," Wood told his skipper. "No, just get three groundballs," Piniella said. End of discussion. And three batters later, it was end of threat. And a few minutes after that it was end of game as Derrek Lee drove in pinch runner Jason Marquis with a single to center to cap a crazy day that saw the Cubs' magic number to capture the NL Central crown reduced to 2, courtesy of their 7-6 win. "The beauty of baseball is you never know what's going to happen until that final out," Piniella said. "It was a heck of a ballgame, and I can say that because we won. "It's uplifting to us and it's deflating to the oth...

Friday Blues Funny - Devil Got My Woman
2008-09-12 14:00:00
These two video clips are from the critically acclaimed movie Ghost World. One of the subplots of the movie revolves around the relationship of Seymore (played by Steve Buscemi), and a young lady named Chloe. The first scene is one where Chloe is teasing Semore about dropping his Skip James record. For some odd reason this is funny to me. The second scene is of her listening to the record. I thought it was cool and amusing how they wove this song into this movie.I wish more Hollywood types would go back and take a look at some of the blues music of the past and use it in todays movies.

Cubs begin new series winning streak From the Daily Herald: The Cubs' 3-2 victory Thursday night over the Cardinals gave the Cubs two out of three in this series, putting them 5 games ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central. Once again, the Cubs (88-58) excelled in two of three aspects of the game, pitching and defense, while the hitting struggled. The Cubs got a quality start from Rich Harden (5-1), who worked 6 innings after having not pitched since Aug. 29. Kerry Wood ended the game by getting the dangerous Albert Pujols to pop out. Wood stranded two and earned his 30th save in the process. The Cubs also got big catches from Alfonso Soriano in left field and defensive replacement Kosuke Fukudome in right, who robbed Felipe Lopez at the wall in the eighth. "What an exciting finish to a baseball game," Piniella said. "I've said all along, when we pitch well, we play good defense and timely hitting. The only thing that's been missing here of late has been t...

Friday Flash..Additions to KitKat and Haagen Dazs
2008-09-12 02:12:00
Two new items I spied on the shelves this past week.First up is the new KitKat flavour,Muscat of Alexandria. As the illustration on the box indicates these are grape flavoured KitKats. The photo shows a somewhat lighter green KitKat stick as I had put the box into my fridge prior to taking the photo.Straight out of the box,off the shelf, the KitKats are a more vivid green and also more sticky as the outside layer melts in the late summer heat heat.Nonetheless straight off the shelf or out of the fridge these have quite a pleasant taste.Another addition to the Haagen Dazs range is Maple Cookie. The ice cream has a maple flavour which greets you as you open the plastic lid.Mixed through the ice cream are small fragments of cookie dough.Very sweet and cloying.Im not sure I could get through more than one mini cup.Good if you are a sweettooth or need a sugar rush.

Give 'em hell, Joe, whether they know that's what it is or not (h/t The Daily Kos - the volume gets louder about halfway through; dag, he was right down the street from me, more or less)......now first, here is the 9/11 "tribute" video shown at the Repug National Amnesia Festival ("tribute" to whom, I wonder? Utterly contemptible - "a president who knows how," or whatever? Too afraid to come right out and plug McBush?)......and, as usual, K.O. hits the perfect tone in his response......and I realize that it gets a bit pointless and stupid at times to keep noting that Fox Noise is the media operation for the Rethuglican Party masquerading as a news organization, but we do what we must......and as a tribute to Bill Melendez, here is the final six minutes or so of "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown"......and to take us into the weekend with style, here's Chris Isaak ("Diddley Daddy," on "Soundstage"; I have no clue about his politics, but I just like his music).

I?ve got a whole bunch of stuff to get to courtesy of Michael Morrill of Keystone Progress, so let?s begin, shall we?McCain Used Record Of Job Layoffs To Attack Romney. CBS News reported that McCain attacked Romney's record and rhetoric that private-sector experience enhances his ability to create jobs: "McCain added by criticizing Romney's private sector experience, which Romney has used as his platform for being able to bring America's economy back. 'As the head of his investment, quote, company. He presided over the acquisition of companies that immediately laid off thousands of workers.'" (I?m going to try and tackle two conservative pundits here for the price of one.)In today?s Philadelphia Inquirer, Jonathan Last tries to tell us here that the presidential race is tightening because both sides have ?ditched their playbooks??To understand the change in strategy, let's first go back to the Democratic convention in Denver. There was much concern at the start of the convention over whether Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton would endorse Obama.Of course she would. But Clinton did so by the smallest degree politically permissible. She touted the importance of putting a Democrat in the White House and urged her supporters to work for Obama. What she didn't do was issue a single word of specific praise about Obama.Really? That?s news to me. I?m sure you can find more than ?a single word of specific praise for Obama? from this excerpt of Senator Clinton?s speech (transcript is here)?Barack Obama began his career fighting for workers displaced by the global economy.
