Fried Rice with Baby Corn Manchurian
2008-07-09 14:58:00 I am a huge fan of Indo-Chinese food. Though I hadn't tried any of the recipes before, one day I had this obsessive need to make gobi manchurian. I set out to the wet market but to my huge disappointment, they were out of cauliflower. A bit disappointed, I headed over to the supermarket to get milk, and there in the chiller was a packet of baby corn. A particular evening in Hyderabad flashed through my memory and I knew the answer. Baby corn manchurian!I also needed the quintessential ingredient for Chinese cooking - Soy sauce. There were about a dozen varieties in the supermarket and I picked one which I thought would be closest in taste to the one and only kind available in India - Sil Soy Sauce! Here is the simple meal I made. It came out mild and tasty.Fried RiceServes 2What I Used:Cooked Basmati rice - 2 cupsChopped carrots - 1/2 cupChopped beans - 1/2 cupChopped onions - 1/2 cupCapsicum - half of a medium sized oneGinger garlic paste - 1 tbspSoy sauce - 2 tbspPepper - 2-3 ts...

Nasi Goreng (Indonesian Fried Rice)
2008-03-18 05:39:00 Carrie was over tonight to enjoy the first recipe we've made from Asian Flavors, a book we've been sitting on since Christmas. The chapters in the book are divided by ingredients (for example: lime leaf, coconut, etc.), and the recipes in each section feature that key ingredient. This fried rice dish was featured in the Soy chapter and uses kecap manis, a thick, sweet soy sauce used in many Indonesian dishes.Carrie says:Now *this* is a Carrie dinner!Chris says:Mmmm... I like the little egg on top. I'm usually not a fan, but this is really paper-thin.Lisa says:Yum, I like this dish! Cathy will be glad to hear we finally made something from the book. :)Chris says:It's almost a meat-stravaganza... small shrimp, jumbo shrimp... chicken...Lisa says:So you just followed the recipe exactly?Chris says:Pretty much... used a bit less oil than listed below... so there was some sticking to the wok... but that's a small price to pay!Nasi Goreng (Indonesian Fried Rice)------------------...

Pineapple Fried Rice
2008-01-22 10:00:00 Vanessa kicked start the the South Arm Community Kitchen with two of her favourite dishes. The first dish is Pineapple Fried Rice. Many Chinese made fried rice at home. It’s a good way to use left over rice and meat. Nanzaro often asks me to cook extra rice so that he can fry rice for supper or breakfast by himself. Vanessa kicked it up a notch by using the pineapple shell to plate the Pineapple Fried Rice. This is just like what we get at high end restaurant which comes pricey. Vanessa showed us how to make this from our own kitchen. We simply love the presentation of this Pineapple Fried Rice. Ingredients 1 whole pineapple, not too ripe. 4 cups cooked rice. preferably overnight left over rice 4 slices Cooked ham 4 eggs a bunch of green beans Soy Sauce Salt to taste Click on the link below for the instructions. It's even better if the rice was left over from the previous night. The rice used here is actually sweet rice. It's a little more sticky compared to regular rice. I usually use Thai rice or Japanese rice. The green peas, corn, and carrots were from a big bag of frozen vegetables. Therefore, the only thing we needed to do was defrost. The pork chops were first pan fried until cooked. They were then cut into bite size cubes. We wanted to be creative with the eggs. Normally, I'd either scramble the eggs first, place aside, and then combine it with the rest of the ingredients later, or crack the eggs into the wok while stir frying the rice. The latter option gives the fried ric...

CW’s Kimchi Fried Rice — Southern Style (Kimchi BokkeumBap 김치 볶ì
2007-10-22 04:31:00 My co-worker, Chris Wright, is a legend in Anyang. It seems like he knows everybody. Like a Virginia-born Jack Black, he comes into work early each day with his iPod blaring classic rock, ready to tell stories of the night before. He’s also the organizer and MC of Anyang’s monthly Open Mic Night. Chris also likes good food, and he has to cook for himself a lot of times. Recently, over some beers and smoked turkey, he told me his way of making Kimchi BokkeumBap with methods taught to him by his Korean girlfriend. It sounded so good that I made it for breakfast the next Saturday morning. The way one gets fried rice at a Korean restaurant is usually all the ingredients thrown together at one time and stir fried over high heat. I prefer to do things in steps. The big thing about fried rice is prepping everything ahead of time. First the aromatics. Chopped onion, garlic and ginger. Then clean the refrigerator out with vegetables you need to get rid of. In this one,...

Thai Shrimp Fried Rice
2007-08-15 21:19:00 It has been really hot out here lately, so I was not very keen on cooking. Our dinners have so far consisted of mostly salads or chopped up watermelons. However, if cooking, Thai cuisine remains my summer favorite. The dishes are light, juicy and refreshing. When Mallugirl of Malabar Spices announced her Summer Express Cooking, this was the one that popped into my mind immediately. I just needed a little push to make it. Tomorrow, I was going down to Slovakia for my sister´s wedding last week, so it had been a fridge clear-up week. Trying to use up all the rice and veggie leftovers, I could not think of a better excuse for a simple fried rice and a carrot salad. That was a final push for making a great Thai meal - Shrimp fried rice and Som Tam Thai Salad. Here is a detailed explanation of how to make both in less than 30 minutes, without stressing out too much or multi-tasking. There is only one think to be time-cautious about. Chopping, slicing and grating...First, prepare ingredie...

"Siiu" means soy sauces, like Siiu dam - black (darken) soy sauce or Siiu khao - light soy sauce. For this delicacy 2 different soy sauces and a soy bean paste are used. This way we want to thank the cook of the Viang Bua in Chiang Mai for his support. The noodle dish

2007-03-20 16:44:00 I'm busy shifting furniture and packing rooms today. I had to move the children's bed from the playroom to the master bedroom for my daugghter because the playpen she sleeps in is now so torn up that she can roll out of it.I'm so tied up with the housework that I have little time left for cooking for 4 of us. So today we are ALL having the same thing - Fried Rice. Today's Fried Rice is slightly different. The ingredients I used were Carrot, Pea, Baby Corn and Sausage and the egg is on the outside.PS. In case you do not know, I sometimes have to cook many dishes for the 4 of us. It maybe be up to 5 different dishes. You should know, my son has his own meal. Shrimp Fried Rice
2007-02-27 17:44:04 First, let us stop and take a humble moment to thank our lucky celiac stars that brown rice is gluten-free. Yes, it's true, we all mourn the loss of some fabulous decadent thing we can no longer sink our teeth into - the tender flaky chocolate croissant, the finger licking stickiness of a honey glazed Dunkin Donut, or the crusty, chewy simplicity of a freshly baked baguette, hand torn and shared with love and a gleaming plate of extra virgin olive oil. Heavy sigh.
