Why Is FRINGE Failing on Friday Nights?
2011-11-18 15:27:00 When it was first announced that FRINGE would be moving from Thursday nights to Friday nights, everyone was relieved. It was believed that if there was a night specially designed and protective of sci-fi shows, it was Fridays. After all that was the night that Fox’s THE X-FILES flourished for many years (before moving to Sundays) and it used to be the sci-fi “go to” night for Syfy channel as well, back in the hey-days of STARGATE: SG-1, STARGATE: ATLANTIS, EUREKA and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. But, in the past few years, an interesting trend developed. Fridays were no longer deemed “sci-fi” Fridays. It was not the sanctuary and safe haven for sci-fi shows. (All puns intended since Syfy still airs both SANCTUARY and HAVEN on Friday nights.) As evidence by the inspired casting choice of Leonard Nimoy to play the mysterious and enigmatic founder of Massive Dynamics, William Bell, in FRINGE’s May 12 finale (and beyond). “He [Nimoy] plays William in a way that’s kind of unexpected,” revealed FRINGE executive producer Jeff Pinkner at last week’s Paley Festival Panel honoring the show. “And you go, ‘Oh my God, I now see why these two men were simpatico, were like minded, even though one went into an insane asylum and one went on to be one of the richest men in America.’ Maybe there’s something to that.”

Why Casting Leonard Nimoy on FRINGE is Highly Illogical
2009-04-09 17:39:00 Putting aside the welcome ratings bump that FOX will undoubtedly see when Leonard Nimoy makes his first appearance of what is said to be a multi-episode arc on the May 12th finale of FRINGE, this TV Addict can’t help but feel that the casting of Leonard Nimoy as the mysterious William Bell is, well… highly illogical. Especially after one factors in Michael Ausiello’s recent scoop that, “Nimoy’s character’s arc was significantly cut back to accommodate Nimoy, who was only interested in doing a handful of episodes.” After a season of patiently waiting to discover the identity of the man behind Massive Dynamics, not to mention the reason Walter may-or-may-not-have spent the past seventeen years in a mental institution, the story of William Bell should not be contingent of Nimoy’s schedule and his apparent lack of excitement with regards to being tied down to series television. FRINGE Recap: The Good, the Bad & the Ugly
2009-04-08 19:55:00 The Good: With the mysterious serial killer known only as “the Artist” providing FRINGE fanatics with genuine Silence of the Lambs inspired fears, and Olivia Dunham’s emotional connection to a mysterious folic-ally challenged child delivering the tears, last night’s installment of FRINGE was far and away our favorite episode of the series thus far. The Bad: Josh Jackson’s Peter Bishop was relegated to mere comic relief, adding virtually nothing to the episode outside of the occasional eye-brow raise and off-the-cuff one liner in reaction to Walter’s antics. That, and the decision to cast Erik Palladino as the child welfare case worker/CIA operative took away from the suspense a bit — because let’s face it, there is no way the actor best known (at least to this TV Addict) as the smarmy Dr. Dave Malucci on ER was going to be playing a nice guy. This serial won Best Drama prize in 2008 and Best Production Design. Filming of the third series began on 23 July 2008. The first part of episode one has been available for viewing on the E4 website since January. Trailers began across the Channel 4 family of channels on January, showing cast creating havoc in a pub.
