Rick Wagoner steps down as GM’s chief executive, Fritz Henderson takes hi
2009-03-30 19:00:00
Yesterday, GM’s chief executive Rick Wagoner has announced that he will resign his position at the company, at the White House’s request. But that’s not all, because the Obama administration has also announced that GM and Chrysler won’t be getting any more bailout money and told them to come up with new plans or risk insolvency. Wagoner, which has been GM’s top executive since 2000, said: “On Friday I was in Washington for a meeting with Administration officials. In the course of that meeting, they requested that I ‘step aside’ as CEO of GM, and so I have.” His position will be taken by Fritz Henderson, 50, which has been with GM since 1984, and held the positions of head of GM Europe and then the company’s chief financial officer until today. And that’s not the only change at the top, because it looks like a lot more executive are scheduled to be replaced from their positions in the future. According to Financial Times, this decisio...

It's no surprise at all that the rocket age began in Germany. But a story that includes dropping V2 rockets on the innocent population of London in the Blitz began 15 years earlier, and the only explosives involved were the 24 rockets with 265 pounds of propellant behind Fritz von Opel's head.

At an Innocence Project dinner, Peggy Sanders danced with Dennis Fritz, who was sent to prison for her daughter?s murder. In the Face of Great Loss, Embracing Innocence By JIM DWYERPublished:New York Times May 10, 2008The woman was seated just two chairs away at the table, but the man had to speak over music that filled the room. At an Innocence Project dinner, Peggy Sanders danced with Dennis Fritz, who was sent to prison for her daughter?s murder. ?Peggy,? he said. For a minute, Peggy Sanders did not hear her name being called. She is 65 and was visiting New York this week for the first time from a small town in Oklahoma to attend a big benefit dinner. As a young virtuoso played piano, Ms. Sanders swayed slightly in her chair. ?Peggy,? the man said. She glanced up.?Want to dance?? he asked. She giggled, the way an aunt might at a rambunctious nephew who tries to coax her onto the dance floor at a wedding. But she did not take his question seriously. Of the 600 people at the dinner,...

2008-04-05 01:41:00
February 15, 2008, the Midwestern Innocence Project in Kansas City, Missouri, launched the beginning of it?s celebrative kickoff, to establish their directives and goals to exonerate falsely-convicted people out of prison.Lawyers, media, Paralegals, Investigators, and Volunteers, took their seats?following the ?free lunch??anxiously awaiting, as Executive Director, Jay Swearingen, introduced Dennis Fritz as the keynote speaker for the day?s event.Dennis, through his positive attitude, and precise speaking abilities, conveyed the torturous account of his very painful and exhausting journey? of the 12 year nightmare that he underwent?of being falsely convicted for 1st Degree Capitol Murder. At times, during his talk, his voice would sometimes quiver as partial tears would form in his eyes.He described the tremendous amounts of suffering that he endured throughout his horrible experience. All eyes were glued upon him, as he vividly described what prison life was really like. ?Every d...

Honestly, I know that one should never believe out right whatever they see in the media. Fine. I can handle that. You just take everything with a grain of salt no matter what you see and no matter what you want it be have meant. But Katherine HeyGirl is dominating the "World's Most Annoying Successful Actress" category. She plays 3rd fiddle to Sandra Oh and that Pompeo chick and then she lands a role in Knocked Up, becomes even more successful...and has since used that power to act like a *cough*wordthatryhmeswithrunt*c-ough*. In this clip she's tearing TR Knight from his fans. Ten million dollars says that she wouldn't have been so hasty to leave had anyone in that crowd gave a rats ass about her.Also...they're both cute, but the TR's boy looks a tad too young. I'm not a fan of this May December romance.

Book Excerpt Journey Toward Justice Author Dennis Fritz One Day Before Free
2008-02-18 17:56:00
One day before freedom:I got back up in my bunk and pondered the many questions that plagued my mind. When I awoke to the jangle of keys in the door, I realized that I must have dozed off for a while. The guard said that there were some people there to see me. I followed him to the visiting room.As I turned to enter, I saw a beautiful young woman standing in front of me. In a split second, I realized that this radiant woman with the beautiful smile was Elizabeth. My blessed mother was standing by her side. An uncontrollable feeling welled up in my chest and I began to cry. In that very same visiting room years earlier I had last seen Elizabeth as a young girl. Now she was grown up. She looked so much like her mother. We stood for a moment, uncertain about what to do as we stared at each other, our faces quivering with emotion. Then we lunged into each other?s arms, embracing each other with every ounce of emotion that had been locked away inside us for the past twelve years. With our...

Grisham's Eyes Opened With Help Of Dennis Fritz On Death Penalty and Wrongf
2008-01-11 03:19:00
In an interview published in yesterday?s Jackson Free Press, Grisham says he met many wrongfully convicted people while researching the book, and ?it doesn?t take too many conversations with men who are imprisoned and will probably never get out, who are innocent, to kind of flip you, to make you suddenly aware of this problem. That?s what happened to me.?It was Ron Williamson?s obituary in the Dec. 9, 2004, issue of The New York Times that caught attorney and author John Grisham?s eye.?It had all the elements of a novel,? Grisham said in an interview with the Jackson Free Press. ?The small town Southern feel to it; the small town sport hero going off to make his mark in the major leagues and failing; a grizzly murder; a wrongful conviction; a trip to death row; insanity; a near execution; exoneration; the eventual conviction of the real killer; a lawsuit to recover damages. I could not make that up, and if I did make it up, nobody would believe it. It?s too rich to pass up.?After 1...

Spare Ribs and Cabernet Sauvignon
2007-11-16 16:10:00
The wine was a 2004 Fritz Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine came in a club shipment, cost us $28 minus a club discount, clocked in at 14.2%, and had a real cork closure. On the nose I found raisins, cherry, spices, and oak. I also noted some earthy undertones. In the mouth I found berries and a bit of cherry. The wine was tannic and didn't seem ready to drink. I'd hold onto this one if you have any.I served this with BBQ spare ribs, corn, and rice pilaf when my folks were here visiting. I think the wine would have been a really good match with the dinner had I let it decant for a few hours or saved the bottle for a couple more years.

John Grisham and Dennis Fritz Lawsuit - Publisher welcomes libel suit
2007-10-04 15:09:00
Seven Locks Press in Santa Ana is small-time, publishing about 25 titles a year. But it has joined big boys Doubleday and Random House, as well as author John Grisham and defense attorney Barry Scheck, as defendants in a defamation lawsuit involving the justice ? or rather the in justice ? system in the small town of Ada, Okla. The lawsuit is one of the best things that's ever happened to Seven Locks and its owner, Jim Riordan. "Quite frankly, when I get to put my name next to Grisham and Random House ? I'll take that any day," says Riordan, who I met a few years ago when he was working with Deacon Jones on a charity fundraiser. At the center of the lawsuit is an Oklahoma prosecutor by the name of William N. Peterson. He got murder convictions on two men who did 12 years in prison before they were cleared by DNA evidence. He also got questionable convictions on two other men in a separate murder case. They are still in prison. The cases spawned three books: "The Dreams of Ada" by ...

DA Bill Peterson Suing The Innocent Man Dennis Fritz For Emotional Distress
2007-10-02 18:47:00
Dennis Fritz, who wrote the book, "Journey Toward Justice", is named as a defendant in a libel lawsuit along with , John Grisham, author of "The Innocent Man", Robert Mayer, author of "The Dreams of Ada", and all their publishers, and New York City attorney Barry Scheck, Fritz's former lawyer who once represented Fritz and is co-director of The Innocence Project. With the aid of Barry Scheck and irrefutable DNA evidence, Dennis Fritz and Ron Williamson were exonerated in 1999. Pontotoc County District Attorney Bill Peterson and Gary Rogers, a former agent for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation filed the libel lawsuit. The lawsuit, seeks at least $75,000 compensation and demands a jury trial. Peterson and Rogers were instrumental in the conviction of Ron Williamson and Dennis Fritz in the murder of Debbie Sue Carter in Ada, Oklahoma in 1982. The conviction was later overturned on DNA evidence pursued by the Innocence Project, which Scheck heads, Dennis Fritz was wrongfu...
Dennis Fritz Responds To Lawsuit Author of Journey Toward Justice
2007-09-30 23:07:00
?The problem is that Mr. Peterson convicted two innocent men, sent Ronnie and I to the penitentiary for 12 years, based upon alleged evidence that did not go beyond a reasonable doubt.?Fritz said the lawsuit is merely a power play by Peterson ?to regain what he has lost because of his actions, or mis-actions.??He cannot handle the truth that?s been brought out in both Mr. Grisham?s book as well as mine. Dennis Fritz said every word in his book is true as he remembered the events of that time.?Factually, it?s backed up exactly by every word out of the transcript,? he said.Fritz said that Peterson achieved their convictions through ?several huge mistakes, worse than mistakes, travesties of justice.??He doesn?t want to face the truth, really, of what happened,? he said. ?He wants to try to make everybody believe that, in fact, he has not done anything wrong.?I just want to say every word, every part of my book, is 100 percent factual." (Okay, that sounds a bit ominous.)I found this bottle of 2005 Fritz Chardonnay hiding in our basement when Matt and I were reorganizing the wine last weekend. A surprise to me, as I thought I had written up all the white wines in my collection. The wine had a real cork closure, clocked in at 14.2% alcohol by volume, and cost us $20 in a club shipment. On the nose I found lemon, oak, butter, vanilla cream, and apple. In the mouth I found the wine to be buttery and oaky. Additionally, I got lemons, peach and more oak in the mouth. Overall, this was an oaky, buttery Chardonnay. It wasn't flabby or anything, but I was overwhelmed by the butter and oak. It's just NMS.
