Ella Emotions from a Past Time that Are Felt Today that are from Yesterday
2008-05-26 19:54:00
Yes, there is such thing as past lives yes most of us have lived many including me. According to my spirit guide 56 of them for me. Some of things that happened in them affect us in this life too. Like most fears are from scares or emotions from a previous life. Along with good things too of course like love too. Is reason feel connections to certain people is because knew them in another life. I would probably consider myself a medium that connect with sprits. We all have ability really just have opened up mind to it. According to spirits and emotions I do feel. I lost a daughter name Ella in a life that was very upsetting for me and the person I was married to in that life. Even though in this life I have no kids yet and not married. I do feel emotions from it I do cry and upset every time this time of year. I was taking a shower today just started cry for no reason. I mean a hard cry not like simple tears major one. Maybe it is true I am crying about a daughter I lost in my last ...
Here's another short clip of the manta rays from yesterday in Kona Hawaii..
2008-05-08 09:42:00
Manta ray night dive, Kona Hawaii May 6th, '08 from Steve on Vimeo. This is a short clip from the manta dive last night. This particular night there were roughly 50 or so divers sharing 6-7 mantas. This clip is a short uncut version of what can go on for 45-60 minutes straight on a good night. It's kinda funny, we get people who say "we've already been to stingray city in the Carribean" or "we've seen mantas on dives in 'X location'" as though they've seen it all and the night dive is going to be nothing special, then they do this dive and get 5,10,30,50 minutes (depends on the night, some nights we get nothing, many are just plain amazing) of continuous headbumping manta ray bombardment and come up raving about it being the coolest dive they've ever done. I've been leading this dive since late '99 and it's still a thrill for me. Aloha, Steve
Edwin Jackson And Other Fantasy Notes From Yesterday
2008-04-16 17:43:00
No sooner do fantasy players notice the great start of Rays SP Edwin Jackson then he goes and gets smacked around by the New York Yankees.  Five earned runs and eight runners allowed later, fantasy players are kicking themselves for believing the fool's gold that is Edwin Jackson.  In 19 innings covering three starts, EJax has walked ten. The Mariners placed ace left-hander Erik Bedard on the 15-day DL with hip inflamation.  There is no real way to spin this positively except to say the Mariners should feel glad they didn't pursue and sign Bedard to a long-term contract. The Atlanta Braves placed closer Peter Moylan on the DL with right elbow inflamation.  This turns second-year right-hander Manny Acosta into the team's closer, and the bullpen into a cause for concern.  With most expected contenders struggling with their own bullpens, the market for decent relievers should be frenzied.  The question is who is going to make the 21st century version of...

Emerging Trends (?) And Other Fantasy Notes From Yesterday
2008-04-09 17:43:00
The Tigers are now 0-7.  With their line-up, no one is taking this tortoise-slow start as anything but a non-representative sample of seven games amidst a 162-game schedule.  What if this 0-7 start is closer to the truth than the lofty pre-season predictions? The Orioles are 6-1 and find their hare-fast start dismissed as a non-representative sample of seven games amidst a 162-game schedule.  What if the Orioles end-up being better than the 65-W team they looked like ten days ago? Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Mark Reynolds hit his 4th and 5th HRs last night.  His power is for real, but so are his strikeouts (9 in 8 games).  Is this a fluke or did he make adjustments in the off-season that the majors made to him after he began 2007 so weel? Staying with the Diamondbacks, does anyone believe the NL West will be close if the Diamondbacks' early season hitting explosion represents a real improvement over last year's horrid efforts?    The team's 2007 AV...
Brian Bannister And Other Fantasy News From Yesterday
2008-04-03 17:05:00
How fast will Royals' SP Brian Bannister disappear from free agent pools after yesterday's gem?  He threw seven shut-out innings with no BBs against the powerful Tigers' line-up for the victory.  I already own him (and was fortunate to have started him), but I was expecting it to blow-up at any time - the peril of having a SP going against the Tigers.  (For those interested in learning why Bannister has become a sabre-fave, read this three-part interveiw he gave to Tim Dierkes at MLB Trade Rumors.) Brewers' OF Corey Hart stole two bases yesterday.  He was drafted with the expectation of 20+ so that felt good to see.  I was more interested in C Jason Kendall's swipe.  A return to 10 SB is all he would need to make him a "valuable" fantasy catcher. Who was worried about Red Sox DH Dave Ortiz's 0-11 start?  (Besides me who also has Travis Buck's 0-14 to work through.)  Have no fear, he went 2-4 with a HR off lefty Alan Embree.  I wasn...
Pedro Martinez And Other Fantasy Notes From Yesterday
2008-04-02 17:10:00
Thank you to Chris Liss of the "Rotowire Fantasy Sports Hour" on Xm Radio Channel 144 for having me on last night's show.  One topic we touched on was the Dodgers' line-up from yesterday's 3-2 win against the San Francisco Giants.  Andre Ethier was again starting, but Matt Kemp wasn't.  Juan Pierre got the start in his place. This looks no better than manager Joe Torre's decision not to extend Pierre's consectuive game streak the nigh before.  Why make that irreversible decision and then start Pierre the next day?  Over the team's best hitter?  Any celebrating over Juan Pierre's head being on a spike was premature. Pedro Martinez left his 2008 debut after a poping in his hamstring.  This could force the Mets into a temporary rotation of Johan Santana, John Maine, Oliver Perez, Mike Pelfrey and who?  With little pitching or prospect depth, a black cloud just settled over Flushing.  Worse, Pedro was getting hit hard by one of the wo...
US market is giving up it?s gains from yesterday

Yesterday we saw a tremendous rally on the US front after the Fed cut interest rates 0.75 basis points. Today, I got home a tad late due to delays with the London Underground system and also due to the time differences, the US market closes at 8pm GMT meaning that I have a hour less trading ...

Baseball News From Yesterday - Joe Girardi To Manage The Dodgers
2007-10-26 15:47:00
ESPN's Buster Olney reported a rumor that Yankees' mangerial candidate Joe Girardi might end up with the Dodgers if the Yankees do not hire him to do the same job in the Bronx.  It made me wonder how Girardi would run the offense in LA if he were hired.  To get an idea, I lloked at his actual behavior in past situations.  For fantasy purposes, this takes the form of playing veterans over rookies and stealing bases. Girardi has just one year of managerial experience - the 2006 Florida Marlins.  The team had no established/declining veterans, but did have a some journeyman-type players who could be expected to see significant playing time if the manager were inclined towards veterans rather than the unestablished rookies.  Two players that would fit the bill are UT Alfredo Almezaga and CR Wes Helms. Each player did get significant use.  Almezaga appeared in 132 games and got 334 ABs, and Helms appeared in 140 games with 240 ABs.  However, neither s...
World Series News From Yesterday
2007-10-25 14:50:00
Wow.  What a difference between predicting the future and getting it right.  Yesterday, I held out the possibility of a couple of Rockies having good World Series performances to boost their 2008 fantasy values. Then the game was played. Rockies' SP Jeff Francis allowed a lead-off HR to a cute wittle secondbaseman (to borrow Nate Silver's description of Dustin Pedroia).  Before being replaced by rookie Franklyn Morales to start the 5th, Francis allowed five more runs and another nine hits and three walks. As for Morales, a lefty flame-thrower who broke into the national consciousness with a 97 MPH heater in the 2007 XM Satelitte Futures Game, he didn't get out of the 5th having allowed seven earned runs.  Any post-season hype carrying over to next year's drafts seems to have gone up in smoke when reliever Ryan Speier inherited a bases-loaded situation from Morales and walked in those three runners! While the situation seems dire for the Rockies following the ...
Football News From Yesterday
2007-10-22 14:12:00
Am I the only person who faced a team with Tom Brady at QB and Wes Welker at the Flex?  As seems to be the case when this happens, my team scored the third-highest total in the league but fell victim to a 6 TD QB and a 2nd WR with 2 TDs and nine catches for 138 yards in a PPR 1pt/10 yards league. In another league, I had Kenny Watson, but made the mistake of leaving him on the bench despite stating he should be started against a poor Jets defense.  What makes this worse is I am tied going into tonight's Monday night game - and the other team has Colts Kicker Adam Vinitieri.  This is the first time this season that I have made such a big mistake.  FWIW, I had Detroit RB Kevin Jones starting in my RB2. Amazingly, Vikings' RBs Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor each got 13 touches.  The Vikings lost by 14 to the Cowboys.  Would the margin have narrowed if the Vikings relied more upon the better back?  We'll never know! Can we finally put to rest th...
Baseball News From Yesterday - Joe Torre and Derek Jeter
2007-10-19 16:25:00
Joe Torre has decided he did not want to work under a contract that would have cut his league-high manager's salary to a lower one, which would have still kept him atop the manager salary scale.  Before I move on to some possible fantasy implications, I have to draw you to one of the funnier comments I've read on this event. In this morning's New York Times, Scott Boras is quoted saying this the the AP:Torre would have lost respect among the players if he had taken a pay cut. "It is difficult, near impossible, to accept a salary cut," Boras said. "Successful people can afford their principles. They understand if they accept the position, there is a great risk the message to all under him is dissatisfaction." I guess the Yankees can assume Arod won't sign an extension for an average annual salary less than what he currently gets paid? On to the fantasy implications for the 2008 Yankees.  I don't expect much difference.  The salaries of the regulars and the quality...
Football News From Yesterday
2007-10-18 13:21:00
Week Six of the fantasy football season, and coincidentally of the NFL, is the type of week one hopes to draw a lucky break in the event of injuries and bye weeks combining to leave you no choice but to pull a player from the pool and hope. To hope your opponent forgets to set their line-up or forgets a player is on bye. Or for you to start Jerious Norwood and see him rip-off a 67-yard TD on his team's first possession of the game. Those would have been a few lucky breaks, but there were also a slew of pool QB's who did the equivalent. Amongst these were the Dolphins' Cleo Lemon, the Jaguars Dave Garrard, the Bears' Brian Greise and the Chiefs' Damon Huard. Are any of these solid play week-to-week? No, but one of them may provide some magic at some other week. Just hope you're lucky enough to find him twice. PlayerCompAttYdsYPATDINTPass. Baseball News From Yesterday - Colorado Rockies Prediction
2007-10-16 13:10:00
Congratulations to the Colorado Rockies for making the World Series in tie-breaking fashion - sweeping the NL play-off games to get there.  This reminds me of something I said back at the end of March:The Colorado Rockies are the sleeper team of 2007. I know the consensus have coalesced around the Brewers and Diamondbacks, but the Rockies have the best offense in the NL West - by far, and can only be topped by the Mets in all the NL. Holliday, Hawpe, Atkins, Helton at the core. Tulowitzki, Iannetta, Tavares and Matsui/Carroll on the next level. Jeff Baker may be the best bench hitter in the majors leagues this season and Steve Finley and Yorvit Torreabla are better than most teams back-up CF and C. I whiffed on Baker, Iannetta and Finley, but otherwise would consider that statement right-on given the difficulty of predicting the future.  If I had predicted a team that started Josh Fogg in Game One of the LDS or had given rookie Franklyn Morales two three-inning starts amon...
Sports News From Yesterday - John Scheurholz, Randy Couture and Kurt Warner
2007-10-12 16:56:00
Yesterday's big news was the stepping down of Braves GM John Schuerholz and the sudden retirement of UFC's heavy weigth champion, Randy Couture.  I can't speak of Couture, but my colleague at Bloody Elbow sure can.  Click through for intelligent commentary about that.UFC Champ Randy Couture As for Scheurholz, maybe he is getting out near the top.  Maybe he is just ready to move on.  With the Braves about to lose another piece from its championship years, CF Andruw Jones, through free agency, the job of building the Braves towards October baseball just got a little harder. The Arizona Cardinals will start Kurt Warner at QB for as long as he can hold on to the ball and remain upright.  While many fantasy players are rushing to pick him up, I am stanind aside wondering when the last time he was good.  Try 2002.  He failed with the Giants while caddying for Eli Manning, and did the same last year for Matt Leinart.  I am not a believer. And I wo...
Baseball News From Yesterday With Chat Links - J.D. Drew & Mark Teahen
2007-10-11 16:07:00
Coming into the 2007 baseball season, the Royals' Mark Teahen was riding a power surge from 2006 that ended pre-ememptively with shoulder surgery in September in order to be 100% in 2007.  After hitting 7 HRs in 2005 and just 14 the year prior between AA and AAA, Teahen exploded for 18 in fewer than 400 ABs in 2006. There is little room for doubt that Teahen disappointed in 2007.  However, I suspect the shoulder issue was to blame.  Why?  He had the same number of extra base hits in 2006 and 2007.  With an additional year of recovery will those extra doubles turn back to HRs? JD Drew also disappointed in a similar way.  Coming from a pitcher's park in LA where he had 20 HRs amongst his 60 extra base hits, he was capable of producing just 45 XBHs with 11 HRs in the friendlier confines of Fenway Park.  Given he had a similar number of ABs (466 vs 494), this was odd.  He, too, had shoulder surgery in the off-season. However, he was also dealing...
Baseball News From Yesterday - Johan Santana To The Yankees For Who?
2007-10-10 13:30:00
Yesterday's ESPN Insider Blog post by Peter Gammons revealed this interesting piece of trade rumor-inciting information:They are the Yankees, so two hours after their season turned to winter, there was a cellphone conversation about what could be packaged with Chien-Ming Wang to get Johan Santana, not Carlos Silva or any of the other mongrel free agents. They inquired about Santana, because they are the Yankees. What could be packaged with the 19-game winning, $489,500-paid Wang to obtain the 2008-2009 free agent soon-to-be $20MM per season Santana?  It is a tough question to answer, but isn't Wang straight-up even, if not better for the Twins all things considered? Baseball News From Yesterday With Chat Links - BJ Upton
2007-10-08 15:58:00
The Devil Rays' BJ Upton entered the 2007 season as a big question mark after a disappointing second season in AAA where his SLG dropped below .400.  He opened the year with the Devil Rays and got off to a torrid start.  Despite a low contact rate that had every member of the baseball intelligensia predicting a crash back to Earth, the crash never really occurred. He finished the season with an impressive slash stat line of 302/389/508.  With a 154 whiffs in 474 ABs, there is still contact concerns.  How much will this effect his value in 2008?  Will eligibility at 2B and OF along with his 24 HRs and 22 SBs dimish the whiffs influence on his value? Baseball News From Yesterday With Chat Links - Robinson Cano
2007-10-05 16:09:00
In yesterday's Game One loss to the Cleveland Indians, Yankees' 2B Robinson Cano hit a home run.  During the regular season, he produced a very impressive 19 HR, 94 RBI and a .306 AVG.  Given he had a mere 3 HRs/33 RBI/.269 at the end of June, his numbers are that much more impressive. Is this type of split to be expected given his inability to draw walks?  How should fantasy players manage a player like him?  Is he buy-and-hold when not doing well and a sell-high when he is? Baseball News From Yesterday - Tom Glavine
2007-10-04 13:40:00
The Met's Tom Glavine announced that he is likely to be a former Met at week's end when he declines his option to stay with the team that he couldn't make competitive in their do-or-die game last Sunday.  He mentioned going home to Atlanta. This would make sense for the Braves as Glavine is likely to represent one of the better option available to bolster a weak Atlanta rotation.  A starting four of Tim Hudson, John Smoltz, Tom Glavine and Chuck james would be as strong as any top four.  This assumes that the shoulder issues that derailed James in the last two months of the season are not serious. The question is how many years does Glavine want.  As a strong "union" man, he will undertstand the importance of getting more than a one-year-I-want-to-be-happy contract from Atlanta. Baseball News From Yesterday - Andruw Jones
2007-10-03 13:46:00
So much for uber-agent Scott Boras's warning to the Atlanta Braves last week that his client, Andruw Jones, would not take a home town discount.  Yesterday, the Braves announced they would not try to resign him anyhow. With this development, specualtion can begin on who will play centerfield for the Braves next season.  If the team signs a CF like Mike Cameron or Cory Patterson, then further specualtion about that player's former centerfield job begins.  Geez, thinking about the Orioles trying to make a good free agent decision after losing Patterson hurts. Unless rookie Brandon Jones can play centerfield, there does not appear to be any good internal options for the Braves to use in center in 2008.  However, the Braves have broken in rookies that weren't considering ready for full-time work i.e. C Brian McCann, RF Jeff Francouer and C/1B Jarrod Saltalamacchia, so a season with Jones in center shadowed by a veteran like Brady Clark isn't implausible. Wow.  Two consecutive do-or-die games and two consecutive failures by Hall-of-Fame pitchers.  On sunday, it was the Mets' Tom Glavine, and last night it was the Padres' closer Trevor Hoffman.  In an 8-6 game, Hoffman was brought in to close out the victory and advance his team the the play-offs. Instead he allowed consecutive doubles to Kaz Matsui and Troy Tulowitzki and then a triple to NL MVP favorite Matt Holliday.  Thanks to the rules, the sacrifice fly to Jamey Carroll allowed Hoffman Hoffman to record as many outs as Tom Glavine. Baseball News From Yesterday With Chat Links - Who To Blame For the New Yor
2007-10-01 15:59:00
The Mets did it.  Without getting two outs, battle-tested veteran Tom Glavine allowed seven earned runs without retiring two batters.  While his atrocious start in the biggest game of the 2007 season will rightly be criticized, one cannot help but wonder how the management blame will be apportioned. Manager Willie Randolph has been taking some heat in the press as not being animated.  Both may be true, but he learned how to manage from Yankees' manager Joe Torre, who is lauded for that exact quality.  Is that why General Manager Omar Minaya brought is the card-playing solipsist Rickey Henderson?   Minaya has received glowing coverage as a result of his tremendous character and Horatio Alger story.  That will be put to the test as the blame for the Mets failure clearly falls, to borrow a phrase from Bill Parcels, on the shoulders of the person who bought the groceries.  Does Omar stand-up and take full responsibility (I hope so)?  Or does he t...
Baseball News From Yesterday With Chat Links And Play-Off Predictions
2007-09-28 16:20:00
With the New York Mets on the cusp of a historic collapse, there are bound to be fantasy teams experiencing, or about to experience, the same.  For those with no vested interest in these types of races, this becomes an interesting weekend.  For those involved, only the winners will claim to have enjoyed it.  The losers will feel disappointment and/or disgust. I have watched my NL-only team go from 4th place on Wednesday morning to tied for 5th in two days thanks to the inopportunity of a Matt Cain blown win and blown save by closer Brian Wilson and a two-day hitting effort of 14-88 to drop out of the knot of teams around the .275xx area.  While I can't control that (I did shed an AVG-killer, Andruw Jones, and replaced him with a Top AVG player, Edgar Renteria), I look at my 47 HR lead over the team behind me and think what could have been.  (My total is 3rd overall behind totals of 272 and 279.  Yeah I feel jobbed there, too.) Red Sox rookie 2B Dustin Pedroia hit hsi 8th HR last night to burnish his case for the 2007 AL ROY award.  With a slash stats line of 317/381/443, he is a favorite of the sabremetric community, but I can't see a scrappy/underdog guy like Pedroia taking the award.  The field is weak, though, thanks to Daisuke Matsuzaka's late season collapse. Staying with high RBI players.  Wait I didn't mention Delmon Young's 93 RBI is the previous paragraph, did I?  Anyhow, Sammy Sosa hit his 21st HR of the season to drive-in his 91st and 92nd runs  in his comeback campaign.  He hasn't played as frequently in the final two months as he did in the first four, but his numbers demonstrate he can still be effective in a limited role.  Since 8/1, he has slash stat line of 307/357/603 in 78 ABs. With his 19th HR, Robinson Cano also took his RBI total to 94.  With a .305 AVG, he is now a quality fantasy secondbase man.  Too bad he didn't steal bases, thou...

Raise your hand if you were tied in Wins and Saves last night and own the Giants' Matt Cain and Brian Wilson.  Am I the only one? Last night was the beginning of the end of the season for starting pitchers.  While a few may make their regular start on five days rest on Sunday, most will not.  Teams have other options available thanks to expanded rosters.  Or the teams are setting-up their play-off rotations.  Or teams are just more aware of the risk in over-using pitchers.  Any way you cut it, if you're chasing Wins, you should begin to consider your 2008 keeper list. Dodgers' rookie 2B Tony Abreu is out for the rest of the week/season with an injury.  Coupled with SS Rafael Furcal's injury, this opened last night's starting job for Chin-Lung Hu who preceded to go 2-4 with his 2nd HR.  It is late September so the stats may not be predictive, but Hu certainly can make the case for a significant role on the 2008 Dodgers team. Those must have quite a set of back spasms to keep Mets' closer Billy Wagner from pitching in that disaster of a 9th inning last night.  Thankfully, it did not go to waste as the Phillies held on and defeated the Nationals to move within 1.5 games of the 1st place Mets with 10 games to go.  Given David Wright's 9th inning error and his inability to put the team on his back, I see him having lost the MVP to either Brewers' 1B Cecil Fielder or Rockies' LF Matt Holliday. With 9 games remaining and seven games behind the Wild-Card leading Padres, the Dodgers played Tony Abreu at SS in place of the injured Raphael Furcal.  Again I ask.  Why isn't 2007 Futures Game MVP Chin-Lung Hu getting any playing time? Minor league speedster (40 SB in AAA), Josh Anderson is hitting .444 after yesterday's 3-6 effort in the Astros' 18-1 shelllacking of the Cardinals.  My question is why Anderson hasn't even attmepted a SB in the 20 or so times he has been on base?  ...
Baseball News From Yesterday - Matt Holliday & Chin-Lung Hu
2007-09-20 13:35:00
In yesterday's 6-5 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers, Rockies LF Matt Holliday hit his 34th and 35th HRs.  With a .340 AVG, 128 RBI and 11 SBs to boot, Holliday has been one of the most valuable players in fantasy baseball not named ARod.  Given those numbers are a slight improvement on his prior year's production, I believe we need to begin seeing Holliday as the top OF in fantasy baseball. Staying with the LA/COL game, the Dodgers started Tony Abreu at SS in place of the injured Rapheal Furcal.  Wilson Alvarez replaced Furcal when he left the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader, and Ramon Martinez started the second.  Why, oh why, isn't rookie SS Chin-Lung Hu getting these starts? The top goals from yesterday's Champions League action

Here are my top goals from yesterday's Champions League matches. Click the link to see the clip. Cheers. Andrea Pirlo easily takes Man of the Match as he nets on a brilliant free kick and then sets up his poacher extraordinairre, Fillipo Inzaghi, as AC Milan beat Benfica at the San Siro,

The Mets lost their fifth straight, and the Phillies won their 6th in a row to close within 1.5 games of the first-place New Yorkers.  With a rosters full of fantasy stars, this race is still exciting for all its story lines - the choking of the Mets, the lost MVP of David Wright, the Coors-lite line-up of the Phillies (see Jayson Werth and Greg Dobbs), the no-name staff of the boys from Philadelphia.  Here's to hoping it continues. Mike Mussina pitched seven shutout innings against the packed-in Orioles.  In two starts since returning to the rotation, he has pitched 12.1 shutout innings and picked-up two Ws.  Raise your hand if anyone predicted that.  I wonder if any fantasy teams are losing because some tyro took him from the pool based on reputation and has now confounded the Wins category. With manager Ron Gardehire's vote of confidence, the leading candidate for the Twins' 2008 starting 2B job, Nick Punto, went 2-3 to bring his AVG to .209.  Tha...
Baseball News From Yesterday With Chat Links - Hanley Ramirez and Daniel Ca

Marlins' 2nd-year SS Hanley Ramirez stole his 50th base yesterday.  With a .333 AVG and 28 HRs, he should be considered a first round pick next year.  The only question is whether he will be taken ahead of Jose Reyes or whether Reyes can hold on for another fantasy draft as the best SS. Has Orioles' starting pitcher Daniel Cabrera finally jumped the shark as a fantasy option?  After last night's debacle (or as I think about it - his typical performance), he has a 9-17 record with 5.51 ERA.  The five Ks finally got him past last season's total of 157 - in 46 more innings pitched!  While his BAA is higher than it has been in his first two seasons, it is still just .259.  He has to be valued as a pre-humidor Colorado Rockies' pitcher. With $19MM reliever Danys Baez is headed toward ulnar collateral ligmanet surgery,  waiver wire acquiree Fernandon Cabrera picked-up the save in yesterday's 14-inning affair.  With a bullpen in tatters, any successful appearance by a Baltimore reliever could signal use in the closer's role.  For sure, this job is wide open for the 2008 season, and one could do worse than grabbing Cabrera as a closing lottery ticket. So the Blue Jays want to sign lefty-hitting Matt Stairs for the 2008 season and block OF Adam lind for another season.  Is this how a .500 club stays at .500 by retaining old players in hopes they repeat their most productive season this century? Didn't they learn their lesson with Frank Thomas, whose has had a good season with 22 HRs and 87 RBIs but not the one he had in 2006 when hit hit 37 HRs and drove-in 114 with Oakland? Are the wheels coming off in Minnesota?  Three seasons before his free agency, 1B Justin morneau is worrying in the pr...

The Rangers have apparently moved to Joaquin Benoit in the closer's role.  With CJ Wilson appearing in the 8th inning, and doing  apoor job, Joaquin Benoit bailed him out in the 9th to preserve the victory.  With just 20 games reamining, Benoit's elevation is meaningful in keeper leagues and those remaining fantasy races where a save or two will make the difference. Joba Chamberlain pitched two more scoreless innings last night to increase his already larger-than-life reputation.  However, I noticed he only struck out one Royal.  Is that a sign that the league is catching-up to him? Staying with young Yankee pitchers, Ian Kennedy's stat line looking strikingly similar to $46MM bust Kei igawa - five innings pitched with 10 runners allowed.  Kennedy only struck out two Royals.  I'd be worried about using him in the last three weeks of the season if my ratios were still in play. Staying with the New York clubs, rookie Mike Pelfrey notched his seco...

Pedro Martinez returned to the mound to insure the Mets see some major league innings in the third year of a four-year deal the team gave him back in the winter of 2004.  He pitched well enough to win - 5 IP/3R/4K/5H/3BB.  If a relatively unknown pitcher put up that stat line, no one would care.  As a matter of fact, one would see those 3 BBs and raise a yellow caution flag. Roger Clemens was removed from his start yesterday and reported a "grabbing sensation" in his ageless right elbow.  I couldn't help thinking this was the end of the line for the greatest starting pitcher of my lifetime.  In the next moment, I thought about how little he has helped those fantasy teams who blew their FAAB on him at the end of May/beginning of June. 6 wins, a 4.45ERA and a 1.34 WHIP are throuroughly mediocre.  Fantasy owners can be consoled with the fact their FAAB isn't real money.  Then again, maybe the Yankees don't consider the $28MM they spent on Roger as ...

Everyone this proverb knows, will also know, how quickly messages can belong to the past. As however is it, if one today (11. May) a reporting to the meeting of the social committee from 24 April (before 17! Days) in the UeNa to read can. Do messages, which are published about three weeks after their developing, at topicality win? Now the decided guidelines are still at least valid to end of the yearly, but a sign for the topicality of our homeland newspaper is this by far not.
MLB News From Yesterday - Joba Chamberlain, Billy Wagner, AL Cy Young

Was I the only one who thought Joba was going to get his first major-league save when he came out to pitch the 9th inning after entering in the 8th with a 2-0 lead (subsequently increased to 5-0 by the end of the inning)?  Then Joba sent two pitches over Kevin Youkilis' head to lose the opportunity for a save when the umpire tossed him.   I have little doubt the pitches were intentional, but I wonder if leagues will be won or lost based on that one lost save. The Mets brought closer Bill Wagner, he of the well-rested arm, in the 8th inning of a 10-8 game. He proceeded to blow the game in the 9th.  The fact he pitched two innings means the Mets did not believe his fatigued left arm to be anything more than that, but the results are not so consoling.  The next inning in which Wagner allows no runs will be his first since August 18th. Other than strikeouts, is there any reason to be discussing Johann Santana or Erik Bedard in the AL CY Young race?  Neither pit...

Finally!  The Braves had a save opportunity, and, not unexpectedly, it was given to Rafeal Soriano.  However, if manager Bobby Cox is going to use the closer in multiple innings, this could easily be a committee as one would not expect many back-to-back multi-inning saves.  The next mid-8th inning save situation will be telling. The Royals' Zach Greinke made his second start since being returned to the rotation last week and was great.  He threw four shutout innings with five Ks and no walks.  He is going to be a very trendy sleeper if he continues to look like he has conquered his demons. Am I the only person who noted the Yankees used Mariano Rivera in a multi-inning save and immediately thought Joba Chamberlain is available pitch this afternoon - as a closer to rest Mo'? Having pitched the previous two days, Rangers' closer C.J. Wilson was given yesterday off, and Joaquin Benoit successfully closed out last night's Rangers win.  Benoit was the early favorite to close when Eric Gagne was dealt.  While Wilson has done nothing but seize the role, one can never be too sure. What is Mets' manager Willie Randolph doing using Guillermo Mota is a late-game situation?  What about the now fully-rested left arm of closer Billy Wagner?  Aaron Heilman was credited with a blown save in the 8th, but wouldn't a tie game in the 9th, and then in the 10th, merit Wagner's use - if in fact his arm is OK? Are the Braves ever going to have a save opportunity?  Since DFA-ing Bob Wickman, the team has not had one opportunity to show the rest of the baseball world who is the closer.  I guess Pete Moylan is out as he pitched the 7th and 8th inning.  That would make Rafael Soriano the obvious choice, but some proof would be nice. MLB News From Yesterday - Twins, Chase Utley, Mike Mussina, Brian Wilson
2007-08-28 17:41:00
Anyone see the Twins' Mauer-less line-up last night?  Mike Redmond, Jason Tyner and Nick Punto batted 7th through 9th with Alexi Casilla and Jason Bartlett batting one and two.  Twins' GM Terry Ryan has plaudits raining down upon him, but isn't that 5/9s of a line-up an example of dereliction of GM duty?  Isn't that worse than what Astros' GM Tim Purpura put out there? Chase Utley went 3-5, hit his 18th HR and 42nd double, and drove in his 84th run in his return from a broken hand.  With more than a month to go, the four weeks he missed will have absolutely no effect on his status as the elite 2B in baseball and as a mid-1st round pick in fantasy drafts in 2008. The Yankees gave Mike Mussina a two-year/$23MM contract, and he appears to be done as a rotation mainstay.  What makes it worse is the Average Annual Value is more than the disaster of a contract the Yankees gave Carl Pavano who may help the Yankees more in 2008 by not pitching than Mussina will...

A day after making himself unavailable, Mets' closer Bill Wagner pronounced his one day of rest to have cured whatever tired arm issues were ailing him.  There appears to be no reason to suspect an injury, but, if rumors about the Mets searching for bullpen help pick-up, then my suspicious mind will begin working overtime. The Tigers' Joel Zumaya pitched an inning and two-thirds yesterday.  As anyone focused on the 2008 season can attest, seeing Zumaya pitch more than an inning signals he is still a favorite to close next season.  What is up with that goatee?Trim that bush! 2006 World Series hammer (do Carlos Beltran's knees still buckle at the thought?), Adam Wainwright, won his 12th game last night and lowered his season's ERA to 3.86.  It was his sixth straight Quality Start and his 9th out of the past 10.  After an awful first two months of the season (5.59 ERA/1.79 WHIP), he has played himself into 2008 sleeper territory.  The Primacy Effect sa...
