Four favorite funds: 'Perennial winners'
2008-06-24 00:00:00
"For investors who seek superior relative performance but are unwilling to sacrifice dependability, the we offer six funds that consistently outperform their peers," says Richard Moroney (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2126).In- the mid-year forecast for his Dow Theory Forecasts (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2126), he explains, "All of these funds have outpaced category averages in each of last five years, and sometimes much longer." Here, he looks at those funds that he considers "perennial winners.""To be sure, past returns do not guarantee future success. But, while the evidence is not conclusive, academic studies generally indicate performance tends to persist, particularly at the extremes. That is, the best funds continue to outperform their peers, while the worst funds keep lagging."Fidelity Export & Multinational (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=fexpx) (FEXPX (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=fexpx)), our f...

Real Estate Mutual funds REMFs: Fresh Avenue for retail players
2008-06-05 07:35:00
The Sebi recent move to allow mutual fund firms to play in realty space has opened up a new avenue for individual investors. It was a month ago that Sebi had approved the inclusion of real estate and issued a set of guidelines. Prior to that, only high net worth individuals were allowed to invest in realty directly. Now with realty brought under the MF guidelines, it will be much more transparent and regulated. It will encourage middle category investors to participate in the realty growth story with minimum investment. The timing is quite opportune as the real estate sector is currently experiencing strong winds from sub-prime bruised western markets, general fund crunch and a lull in the Indian IPO market. Allowing retail participation in real estate mutual funds (REMFs) will enhance liquidity and create a healthy secondary market for realty assets, observe industry analysts. The success of REMFs to a great extent would depend on how well the sponsors and fund managers voluntarily ...

Raising funds? Get a permit - Singapore
2008-05-24 00:24:00
Raising funds? Get a permit - Singapore   By Maria Almenoar & Lim Heng Liang   SOME groups and individuals may well have run afoul of the law by collecting money from the public for the victims of the natural catastrophes in China and Myanmar. They need a permit to do this - whether the funds are for people here or overseas - in order to stay on the right side of the Charities Act, said the Commissioner of Charities’ (COC) Office yesterday. The alternative: Get a letter of authorisation from those who already have such permits and collect funds on their behalf. The rule is in place to ensure that the money collected is properly accounted for and ends up going to the people it was meant for. Those who flout the rule face up to a $10,000 fine and/or up to three years in jail. So far, only seven organisations have permits to raise funds, including the Singapore Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Mercy Relief. Those without permits say they are linked to these big groups. A R...

Feds Reduce the Federal Funds Rate to 2%
2008-05-22 00:35:00
Just released today…. “Recent information indicates that economic activity remains weak. Household and business spending has been subdued and labor markets have softened further. Financial markets remain under considerable stress, and tight credit conditions and the deepening housing contraction are likely to weigh on economic growth over the next few quarters. Although readings on core inflation have improved somewhat, energy and other commodity prices have increased, and some indicators of inflation expectations have risen in recent months. The Committee expects inflation to moderate in coming quarters, reflecting a projected leveling-out of energy and other commodity prices and an easing of pressures on resource utilization. Still, uncertainty about the inflation outlook remains high. It will be necessary to continue to monitor inflation developments carefully. The substantial easing of monetary policy to date, combined with ongoing measures to foster market liquidit...

I put a little money in the secret inside pockets that I have sewn into my pants, I stash a little in a pocket of my vest, distribute $20 bills through my bags, keep a twenty in my hat band, and then keep what is left in my money belt. Experience has taught me that widely distributing my funds is the best way to travel with money. But there is only one problem: with all of my funds spread so liberally around my clothing and baggage, I have found that it is difficult to remember exactly how much money I put where. Chrysler funds new compact by killing Chrysler-based Journey
2008-05-15 05:31:00
From the article: “Chrysler LLC, the automaker owned by private-equity firm Cerberus Capital Management LP, canceled plans for a new sport-utility vehicle and is instead investing in a compact car. The company won’t build a Chrysler brand version of the Dodge Journey SUV in 2009 and will use the savings to help pay for designing a compact car to be manufactured by Nissan Motor Co., Co-President James Press said in an interview today. The move reflects a push toward more fuel-efficient vehicles and Chrysler’s goal of eliminating overlap between its brands. Abandoning the SUV will also leave Auburn Hills, Michigan-based Chrysler with fewer new or revamped products to introduce in 2009, putting the automaker at risk for further declines in market share, analysts said. “Resources have been deployed to basically support our entry'’ into the small-car segment rather than building two versions of the Journey, Press said. “It’s a segment we are ...
