Futuristic Mobile Device
2008-04-17 18:06:00 If this concept Internet search device by designer Mac Funamizu takes off, the privacy advocates will be out in force to protest. It's like having Wikipedia wherever you go, but way cooler and far more advanced. The artist's idea is for this portable device to have a touch screen, built-in camera, scanner, Wi-Fi connectivity, Google Maps, and Google Search capabilities, among other features. The screen would probably double as the camera viewfinder, so it would be like looking through a piece of transparent glass. And when you point it at an object, the screen would show more details about it, such as the name of an insect, a car model, or food on the table. With existing technologies, we suppose it would use the onboard Wi-Fi to grab information off the Web.Full Article

Futuristic Motel
2008-03-30 09:05:00 A traveling salesman checked into a futuristic motel. Realizing he needed a haircut before his next day's meeting, he called down to the desk clerk and asked if there was a barber on the premises. "I'm afraid not, sir," the clerk told him apologetically, "but down the hall is a special machine that should serve your purposes." Skeptical but intrigued, the salesman located the appropriate machine, inserted fifty cents, and stuck his head in the opening, at which time the machine started to buzz and whirl. Fifteen seconds later the salesman pulled out his head and surveyed his head in the mirror, which reflected the best haircut he ever received in his life. Down the hall was another machine with a sign that read, "Manicures - 25 cents." "Why not," thought the salesman. He paid the money, inserted his hands into the slot, and pulled them out perfectly manicured. The next machine had a huge sign that read, "This Machine Provides What Men Need Most When Away from Their Wives - cost 50...

Futuristic Floor Glows With Each Footstep
2008-03-26 15:17:00 A new rug that lights up when you step on it could be the future of floor fashion, not to mention of nocturnal home safety. Tara Reid and her Futuristic Bikini
2008-03-20 04:34:00 I really hope that we are not looking at the future of bikinis here. Now Tara Reid (to my knowledge) has never been a particular fashion trend setter, but who knows if this will catch on. Putting on a nice bikini and then covering your body in some sort of scarf is kind of like listening to an audio tape recording of a porno movie. On a more positive note, Tara Reid looks pretty good here. Maybe she is covering up the bad parts, who knows? All I have seen in the last 6 months is pasty pale people carrying winter weight dressed in sweaters and parkas. Right now a little skin is enough to make me pop the stitching in my 501s. Who am I kidding with Levi’s, I wear an old t-shirt and grey sweat pants with a yoghurt stain on the leg … at least I hope that is yoghurt …

The Fly: Futuristic Metamorphosis
2008-03-06 21:51:00 I first experienced David Cronenberg’s The Fly some ten years ago when I borrowed the VHS from a friend. I had no idea who David Cronenberg was, but I knew Jeff Goldblum from Jurassic Park and Independence Day. Now that I finally ordered the DVD and it took like months to arrive at my hand, I saw it’s a remake of a 1958 classic with the same title. The classic version according to IMDB had a successful box office but I just don’t know about Cronenberg’s. The thing that made me think more about it after watching it for the 10th time was the story’s similarity with Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis, Seth - the scientist - reminds every reader of that book of Gregor Samsa! Of course the story lines are just way different. Jeff Goldblum gives a magnificent performance as a scientist who succeeds at building a teleportation machine to teleport objects from one place to another. The problem is whether it also teleports a living being with flesh and blood, this is where the story beg...

Go a little futuristic with Modern Vintage
2008-02-19 15:04:00 Go a little futuristic with Modern Vintage With a brand name like Modern Vintage, these ankle boots are rather futuristic, don't you think; or at least, well matched with some of the scarier 'Future' looks on the A/W09 catwalks! (Of course, we'd suggest wearing them with... erm... something prettier?) In any case, it's the embossed patent leather that make these both terribly beautiful and an elegant addition to your shoedrobe. You might have to save a few pennies for them, though; they're $294.99 from Shoes.com.

Abu Dhabi to Get Futuristic Green City
2008-02-10 23:27:00 Abu Dhabi has started to build what it says is the world's first zero-carbon, zero-waste car-free city.Abu Dhabi Future Energy Co., also known as Masdar, will spend $22 billion developing the carbon- neutral city that will save the equivalent of $2 billion in oil usage over 25 years. The green city will use 75 percent less power than a conventional city, and less than half the amount of desalinated water. There is also a financial payoff. Masdar fits neatly into Abu Dhabi's efforts to diversify from dwindling oil wealth. Its developers say that it will create 70,000 new jobs and boost the UAE's GDP by 2 per cent. The project is unquestionably ambitious and forward looking not only in scope but also in the goals it is trying to achieve. Surely, Abu Dhabi has set a precedent and the pace on a regional and international level.

Futuristic Sky Cities: They Could Change Our World
2008-01-22 10:41:00 A trip to Digg today revealed a new theory of engineering that I have never heard of before: arcology. Developed by Italian American architect Paolo Soleri, arcology is "the fusion of architecture and ecology." In English, that means that his vision of a city is a building more or less "that is the opposite of urban sprawl with its inherently wasteful consumption of land, energy and time, tending to isolate people from each other and the community." It is basically the future of the city that will enable humans to accommodate an ever growing population while at the same time freeing up massive amounts of land for cultivation and preserving an unfathomable amount of resources."As the world?s population continues to boom so does density in major conurbations. This increase in density is actually increasing around the world as an influx of people move to the cities in search of jobs and the (often hollow) promise of a better life... This leaves the w...
