Galileo is here; go get it.
Mixtape 4: Galileo Was Cool In His Own Way.
2009-03-04 17:12:00
Galileo Galilei! Inventor of the telescope, discoverer of the heliocentric solar system, challenger of the Catholic Church right up to the very end......and guy that gets a lot of credit for stuff that he didn't actually do. Today, for no particular reason, I'm going to celebrate Galileo in song, while explaining what he really should be celebrated for.Galileo bravely stood up to the Catholic church, right? First, by publishing a book that argued that the solar system revolved around the sun instead of Paris Hilton (as was more commonly believed, at the time), and second, by appearing at trial and appearing to renounce his theories, only to tell the church, about the Earth: but still, it moves.?Someone Keeps Moving My Chair,? They Might Be Giants:Or did he? According to histories, Galileo never said but still it moves as he left the room, and why would he? Having narrowly avoided further punishment, would an old, sick man then bring it all down on his head again??Platform Moon,...

Galileo Galilei, santo patrón de new agers y chantas

Move Over Galileo, It's Science 2.0
2008-07-06 19:15:00
Ben ShneidermanIn a provocative article in Science Magazine, the University of Maryland's Ben Shneiderman, one of the world's leading researchers and innovators in human-computer interaction, says it's time for the laboratory research that has defined science for the last 400 years to make room for a revolutionary new method of scientific discovery. He calls it Science 2.0., and it combines the hypothesis based inquiry of laboratory science with the methods of social science research to understand and improve the use of new human networks made possible by today's digital connectivity. Through Science 2.0, the societal potential of such networks can be realized for applications ranging from homeland security to medical care to the environment.Recently honored by the International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction for his leadership in bringing scientific methods to the study of human use of computers, Shneiderman points to the effect that the World Wide Web and cell phones ...

Galileo EGS-1 Electronic Golf Scope and Rangefinder ~ Amazon ~ $29.99

Rating: 0 Posted By: Jamestren Views: 23 Replies: 0 I have been looking for an affordable rangefinder, and I stumbled accross this one this morning. I almost bought from Kohls using my 30% off, but Amazon was even cheaper with no tax and free shipping. As far as I can find, no one has the rangefinder for less than $50(except Fry's, which was $45). Seems like a great deal on a cheap (but helpful) addition to your golf game. I'm a big fan of J-drama and I continuously look for good dramas to watch and I've certainly found one. That particular drama is...GalileoDon't worry, this drama has nothing to do with Galileo the astronomer, in fact, this movie will get you interested in physics ^^Kaoru Utsumi, a rookie detective who has just been reassigned to the criminal division, finds her investigation of her first murder case stalled by the seemingly supernatural phenomenons surrounding the event. She seeks help from Shunpei Kusanagi, a senior detective at the police headquarter, who introduces her to his college buddy and a associate professor at Teito University, Manabu Yukawa. Yukawa is a tall, handsome, and brilliant man who is interested in nothing but physical science, while Utsumi is a hot-blooded girl with a strong sense of justice. Together, the odd pair solves many difficult and seemingly impossible crimes with their individual talents.-WikipediaEvery episode is just so unique in it's very own w...

Galileo Galilei: First Physicist ???:???????
2007-11-03 08:20:00
James MacLachlan, "Galileo Galilei: First Physicist"???:???????Oxford University Press | ISBN 0195093429 | 1997 | PDF | 7 MB | 129 pages ? The scientific innovations of Galileo Galilei are pivotal to our understanding of the laws of the natural world. Drawing on his diverse studies in philosophy, mathematics, mechanics, music, astronomy, and engineering, Galileo developed revolutionary theories that thoroughly changed the disciplines of physics, mathematics, astronomy, and technology. Galileo Galilei traces the great scientist's education, describes his maverick experiments in Padua and Pisa, and recreates the ingenious pathway of his famous discoveries. Often censored and imprisoned for his radical ideas that clashed with fundamental Church doctrines, Galileo persisted in his pursuit of scientific truths to bestow upon future generations the inspiration to challenge conventional views. His theories about the motions of falling bodies, his study of pendulums, and his major discover...

Miscalculations of Galileo: Europe’s answer to GPS is floundering
2007-10-02 05:34:00
Europe’s attempt to create its own satellite navigation system, known as Galileo, has fallen on hard times. Over the past year, the European Union (EU) has been forced to abandon the idea of managing Galileo as a public-private partnership, in the process incurring a nearly €2.5 billion ($3.5 billion) debt. In addition, one-time partners China and India have indicated their unease with the project by seeking instead to develop their own satellite navigation systems. Read More…

When the European Union and China agreed to cooperate to develop the E.U. Andrew Wakefield: The Galileo Gambit writ large in The Observer [Respectful
2007-07-09 10:01:00
I just don’t understand it. I just don’t understand how anyone can take discredited antivaccination loon Andrew Wakefield seriously anymore. In particular, I don’t understand how any reputable newspaper can actually take him seriously anymore, given how thoroughly he and his “work” have been discredited. First came the news in late December that at the time he did his “research” that purported to show a link between the MMR triple vaccination and autism and bowel problems, Dr. Wakefield was in the pay of lawyers looking to sue for “vaccination injury” and failed to disclose his clear conflict of interest. Indeed, for that he is scheduled to appear before Britain’s General Medical Council on July 16 to answer this charge, among many others, including ethical lapses in their research such as doing unnecessary procedures that were not medically indicated. More recently, his reputation took an even nastier pummeling during the ...
