Barack Obama Maintains Five - Point Lead In Gallup Daily Poll
2008-07-01 20:31:00 For some reason, CNN's not reporting the Gallup Daily Poll, which shows Senator Barack Obama ahead of Senator John McCain by a consistent five points. Right now, it's 47 percent versus 42 percent. What bothers me is that the polls imply that there are equal number of registered Democrats and Republicans, when in point of fact, more Democrats have turned out to vote than Republicans. What's going on? More later.
Obama Leads McCain After Clinton Endorsement
2008-06-10 08:51:00 Barack Obama made gains over John McCain according to the latest presidential polling. Rasmussen and Gallup polling data from June 6 through June 8 showed a sizable bump for Obama after officially clinching the Democratic nomination. Barack Obama became the presumptive Democratic nominee last Tuesday after picking up superdelegates endorsements and pledged delegates from South Dakota and Montana. Senator Clinton met with Democratic leaders on Wednesday and later announced her intentions to withdrawal from the race and endorse Obama. With the Democratic nomination locked up and Senator Clinton endorsing Obama, Obama had a week of publicity following this major victory. According a Rasmussen poll, Obama picked up 4 points and McCain lost 2 points from the previous week. The six point swing gives Obama a 50 percent to 44 percent lead. The previous Rasmussen poll showed a dead tie between Obama and McCain. Gallup polling data showed a slightly larger swing fo...

Gallup 6 Year Poll: 93% of Muslims are Moderates
2008-03-06 23:28:00 Gallup poll: 93% of Muslims are moderatesThe study was conducted from 2001 to 2007, and was very extensive.About 93 percent of the world's 1.3 billion Muslims are moderates and only seven percent are politically radical, according to the poll, based on more than 50,000 interviews. In majority Muslim countries, overwhelming majorities said religion was a very important part of their lives -- 99 percent in Indonesia, 98 percent in Egypt, 95 percent in Pakistan. But only seven percent of the billion Muslims surveyed -- the radicals -- condoned the attacks on the United States in 2001, the poll showed. Moderate Muslims interviewed for the poll condemned the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington because innocent lives were lost and civilians killed. (AFP)To be fair, 7% of 1.3 billion is 91 million. Of course, percentage wise, this number isn't as significant.Any thoughts?

Gallup International and their Barisan Nasional-friendly survey results
2007-12-06 08:00:00 Folks! Have you checked out today’s top news that made headlines in our local mainstream newspapers today? I’m talking about Gallup International and their fantastic ‘Trends in Democracy’ survey results released on the 3rd of December 2007 that made UMNO and Barisan Nasional party members walk like some proud Egyptians today. :-) Their Malaysian results have been over sensationalized by the local press really. Gallup vs. Zogby
2007-11-28 05:59:00 It was interesting to see two polling firms release two contradicting results on the same day. It was also interesting to see the media reaction to these polls. Zogby was highly covered while the Clinton camp had to inject some love for Gallup. The purpose of which is clear: a media created horse race. Here are the results side by side. But why the discrepancy?First to note is the Zogby poll in an online poll, while Gallup was conducted through telephone interview. If you have learned anything this election cycle is never trust online polls. The youth vote is often over sampled (favors Obama), while the elderly vote is undersampled (favors Obama). Here are excerpts by Charles Franklin over at polster.com.Zogby Results vs. trendlinesWhat is immediately clear is that the Zogby Clinton numbers are well below the estimated trend for Clinton in each of the four comparisons. Clinton is consistently 8-10 points below her trend estimate based on other polling. In contrast, the Republican resul...
New polls revive electability questions for Hillary
2007-11-27 00:23:00 I’ve been saying for months now that Hillary Clinton is the only chance the Republicans have in 2008, and some new polls raise the electability question all over again. First, a new Zogby online poll “shows Democrat Hillary Clinton of New York would lose to every one of the top five Republican presidential contenders.” Her main opponents at present, Barack Obama and John Edwards, both defeat or tie any likely GOP challenger. However, Gallup has Clinton faring a little better. A new Gallup Poll finds Sen. Hillary Clinton with a slim but not statistically significant advantage over both former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Sen. John McCain in head-to-head matchups for the 2008 general election for president. Clinton has much more substantial leads over former Sen. Fred Thompson and former Gov. Mitt Romney. Sen. Barack Obama also has significant leads over Thompson and Romney, but essentially ties with Giuliani and McCain. My guess is that the Gallup poll is a little more r...

Gallup Poll: Strong Male Resistance to Hillary Candidacy
2007-11-08 18:28:00 Is the Hillary Clinton poll meltdown continuing? A slew of recent polls has indicated that both her national and states polling numbers have been going southward since her disastrous performance at the most recent Democratic presidential debatet in Philadelphia on October 30. Now a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll has more devastating news for Hillary Clinton: there is strong and possibly strengthening male opposition to her candidacy. More than eight in 10 Republicans and more than half the married men in a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll say they definitely wouldn't vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton for president. The poll provides an early snapshot of who's ruling out Clinton, John Edwards and Barack Obama, the three leading candidates for the Democratic nomination ... The poll found that 36% of women wouldn't vote for Clinton, compared with 50% of men ? and 55% of married men. Obama had comparable appeal to women and more to men. Clinton's appeal overall falls as income rises, the reve...
CNN, Gallup and NBC/WSJ
2007-11-08 15:00:00 Three new polls out on the hypothetical general election matchup between Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani. None of them are polling likely voters and there doesn't appear to be much of a trend at all. NBC actually shows the race closing, with Hillary leading by an insignificant 46-45 margin. In September they had Hillary up seven. On the flip side, CNN has Hillary up by six at 51-45, which is actually larger than the two point gap they had last month. Gallup has not commissioned a poll since June making the November results sort of a stand alone. Their poll mirrored the CNN Poll at 51-45. Personally I don't believe that we are far enough into the election cycle to believe that any candidate had hard support from more than maybe 45%. Anything above and beyond that is probably statistical noice or just part of the natural ebb and flow of the current events. The Gallup poll showed some alarming statistics regarding just how many people have already made up their mind...

Americans Are Unhappy With America - USA Today / Gallup Poll
2007-11-01 22:10:00 This USA Today article reads:"In all, 72% of those surveyed in a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken Oct. 12-14 say they are dissatisfied with how things are going in the USA while just 26% are satisfied. Not since April have even one-third of Americans been happy with the country's course, the longest national funk in 15 years." This sparks the sign of political change. But in what direction? Could it mean victory for Barack Obama or Ron Paul? It's hard to tell from the article's comments. But here's the rest of it:raq dominates the political agenda. In the poll, four in 10 Americans volunteer that the Iraq war will be one of the most important issues determining their vote in 2008. That's more than twice as many who cite the second-ranking issue: health care.Six in 10 call the invasion of Iraq a mistake, equal to the highest levels of anti-war feeling during the Vietnam conflict. Despite reports of progress after this year's rise in U.S. force levels, a majority say the si...

USA Today Gallup Poll Rigged To Favor Clinton
2007-08-07 19:35:00 I've written this before and it bears reminders that the USA Today / Gallup Poll can't be trusted in the wake of the June "redo." That was an outrage and should not go unnoticed. Frank Newport of Gallup openly admitted he redid the poll because he could not believe Senator Barack Obama was tied with Senator Hillary Clinton.
Numbers From Gallup
2007-07-09 22:47:00 New numbers from Gallup and it seems the Q2 fundraising numbers has had little or no affect.RepublicansRudy Giuliani: 30%Fred Thompson: 20%John McCain: 16%Mitt Romney: 9%Newt Gingrich: 6%Mike Huckabee: 2%Duncan Hunter: 2%Tom Tancred: 2%Sam Brownback: 1%Tommy Thompson: 1%Chuck Hagel: 1%Nothing much has changed but with such close numbers in the top tier, it certainly is conceivable that the Convention may indeed decide the nominee.Democrats (numbers without Al Gore)Hillary Clinton: 37% (42%)Barack Obama: 21% (26%)Al Gore: 16%John Edwards: 13% (16%)Joe Biden: 3% (3%)Bill Richardson: 2% (4%)Dennis Kucinich: 2%Mike Gravel: 1%Clinton has opened up a wide lead over the other candidates and it is certainly astonishing that Barack Obama with all the excitement fueling his candidacy he is unable to crack 30% or even beat Hillary Clinton. It makes me wonder if Obama has reached his ceiling of support. It will be something to watch as the race progresses.
An Interesting Poll From Gallup
2007-06-21 00:47:00 There's a new USA Today/Gallup poll today which asked 927 registered voters nationwide who they would prefer in hypothetical head-to-head matchups between each of the three leading declared Democratic candidates and three leading declared Republican candidates. I've been paying basically zero attention to these polls, but when I saw the results summarized at Real Clear Politics the trends in the numbers jumped out at me. I could care less about the absolute numbers, or the fact that the Democratic candidate leads in every matchup. Despite the high level of campaigning already it's still extremely early in the campaign. All of these candidates are still focused on winning their respective parties' nominations rather than the general election campaign. What struck me about the numbers is how they vary - or don't vary - depending on who the candidates are. There's virtually no difference in the results if either Giuliani or McCain is the Republican candidate. The Democra...

June 17th USA Today / Gallup Poll Rigged - Redone To Place Clinton Ahead
2007-06-19 07:16:00 Question: Why are you a Democrat? Click for answers here. OK. Get this. Just get this. Two weeks ago, Senator Barack Obama was tied -- that's right, tied -- with Senator Hillary Clinton for the 2008 Democratic Presidential race in the then latest USA Today / Gallup Poll. Now, USA Today / Gallup didn't do a poll in May, and certainly not two weeks apart, but this new one says that Senator Clinton has a large lead. What? The critical eye would have a question. I've got several. But the bottom line is the second round of polling was rigged. Why? Because someone didn't like the outcome and doesn't want Senator Barack Obama to win, so they immediately ordered another poll and worked to obtain results they wanted to see. The poll effort was rigged. That's right, rigged. You can't even find the poll on the Gallup website. How in the hell can you explain the supposed "double-digit lead" Senator Clinton has, but then she's behind in South Carolina? That observati...
