Game 2 running … Part 2
2008-06-09 04:28:00 Sam Cassell injured his wrist, with reports calling it a sprain. He is expected to return. *** The Celtics lead at the half, 54-42. A few keys: *Kobe Bryant got his third foul with 1:53 remaining the half. *Celtics Leon Powe scored eight points in seven minutes, getting nine foul shots. *The Lakers definitely brought more grit to Game 2. They ...
Game 2 running
2008-06-09 03:51:00 The Celtics outscored the Lakers 10-0 in the first 2:20 of the second quarter capped by a Paul Pierce 3-pointer to lead 30-22. The Lakers subs were in for the run. After the timeout, Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom returned. Bryant, of course, ended the drought with a 20-foot fallaway jumper. **** Some celebs in attendance: Sox pitchers ...

Orioles looking to steal Game 2 from Yankees at Camden Yards
2008-05-26 20:00:00 05/27/08 POINTSHAVERS.COM - Today's free pick come from Camden Yards were the Baltimore Orioles will face the NY Yankees in Game 2 of a 3-game series. In Game 1, the Orioles took advantage of Yankees relief pitching as they broke a 0-0 tie in the 7th inning and scored six consecutive runs to beat the Yankees 6-1 behind starting pitcher Greg Olson.Today, the Orioles will be starting Brian Burress (4-4 W-L, 3.16 ERA). In his last appearance against the Yankees at Yankee stadium, Burres pitched for 7 innings and allowed only 1 earned run.The Orioles will be facing Yankees pitcher Ian Kennedy (0-3 W-L, 7.27 ERA). Lately Kennedy's pitching has been much better than his numbers indicated. In his last outing he pitched his best game of the year allowing only 1 earned run to the Orioles in 6 innings of play.We expect Kennedy will have a much tougher time at Camden Yards today. It's hard to explain, but the Orioles are just a better team at home. This year the Orioles are 15-7 at...

Game 2: L.A. Lakers Vs. San Antonio Spurs

Pistons Steal Game 2 in Boston
2008-05-23 05:40:00 Thursday night proved an exciting and close NBA playoff contest in Boston. The Pistons started to really up the notch on their D in the 2nd quarter and locked down the Celts. Pistons went up by as many as 11 in the game, pushing the Celtics to the limit. In the 3rd quarter, Ray Allen finally started to find his scoring touch and pushed the Celtics back. He also had 5 fouls making it tougher for him to give his all on D. In the 4th the Celtics tried to fight back and got it down to as few as 2 points, but the Pistons prevailed, by hitting shots and free throws consistently. Rip Hamilton was the leading scorer for the Pistons with 25. Chauncey Billups chipped in 19 points and 7 assists. The Big 3 put in a solid effort as well in the loss, with Pierce scoring 26, Ray Allen 25 and KG 24. The big concern here is this marks the Celtics' first home loss of the playoffs. As mentioned before here, if the Celtics lose a game at home they most likely will lose the series. The exper...
Pistons know they have a big mess to clean up in Game 2
2008-05-22 20:25:00 The way the Detroit Pistons look at it, Game 1 was like a tall, tasty beverage they dropped and spilled all over the floor. There is a mess to clean up, for sure. They are mad for being so clumsy and frustrated at missing out on the refreshment — but, all in all, nothing was broken. So on Wednesday, they grabbed the pails and mops and went about cleaning things up in preparation for Thursday's Game 2. The Celtics overloaded their defense to the strong side of the floor — the side with the ball — and reduced the Pistons to a one-pass, one heavily-contested-shot team. Not only did the Pistons manage just 79 points — which won't get it done — they only took 66 shots. The bulk of those were mid-range jumpers from the same side of the floor the offense started on. Cleaning up the defensive mess starts with fighting harder against the Kevin Garnett-Paul Pierce pick-and-roll. A lot was made of Garnett's 26 points and dominance of Rasheed Wallace. But it was...

Red Wings Hammer Avalanche in Game 2
2008-04-26 23:36:00 (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)Ouch. Double ouch. Triple ouch. Hell, it was a quadruple ouch. It was a virtual carbon copy of Thursday's game as Detroit shelled Jose Theodore for 4 goals and chased him from the net in a 5-1 win this afternoon. The only difference is that this time, the 4 goals didn't all come in until midway through the second period and Theodore managed to stop 16 shots as opposed to 12. Everything else from the first 30 minutes Thursday carried forward for a full 60 minutes today. The Wings never let up on the gas and the Avalanche only managed a few solid shifts with sustained pressure and looked resigned to losing the game.Goaltending controversyNow we have a true goaltending controversy no matter what Quenneville says in the post-game press conference. Two games straight Jose Theodore has been nailed for 4 goals and yanked with Budaj stepping in and letting in only 1 goal on 40 shots. The team could have helped out more but Theodore looked less-than...
Playoff Gameday: Avalanche vs Red Wings - Game 2
2008-04-26 17:07:00 This is going to be a brief preview and then I'm going to jump on a soapbox so buckle up.Lineup, injuries and game timePeter Forsberg is questionable, Wojtek Wolski is out for the series, and Jose Theodore will likely start.Jaroslav Hlinka should find himself in the lineup regardless if Forsberg is in or not. If Forsberg stays out, Q will likely keep McCormick in.The game starts at 2:30pm ET and this is a game the Avalanche need to win. If they can split the series at Joe Lemon arena, they take home ice advantage in the series and get to come back home to a raucous Pepsi Center where we'll find out what real fans are made of.True fansI spent a good deal of time yesterday over at A2Y "conversing" with the Red Wings fans who frequent that site. Mostly because it was a cold, dreary Friday but I guess I also felt like killing a brain cell or two.Anyways, through the course of the discussions I was accused of not being a "true fan" because I stated that I would continue to watch hoc...
WCS Game 2: Avalanche At Red Wings, Preview And Open Thread
2008-04-26 13:37:00 Gut check time. As in, seriously, every Avalanche player should check their stomachs, ribs, and any other body parts for illness, sprains, breaks or any other kind of injury before suiting up this afternoon against the Red Wings. Wojtek Wolski, we learned yesterday, is out for the rest of the series. Peter Forsberg is as reliable as Republicans banning abortion or Democrats creating universal healthcare. Don't expect him to play. If he does, it will be a nice surprise. His absence clears the way for some guy named Jaroslav Hlinka to play today, whoever that is. I vaguely remember him, but it seems like years ago since we saw him on the ice. Dater says: Jaroslav Hlinka needs to have the attitude that "I’m going to play the game of my life tomorrow." If there was ever a chance for a guy to start proving that he is a PLAYER in this league, tomorrow is it. I don’t think Peter Forsberg is going to play in Game 2, so Hlinka has the ...

76ers vs. Pistons Playoff Series: Detroit Takes Game 2
2008-04-24 19:51:00 Guys, I need some help here. I had a championship basketball game last night at 8 p.m. in my winter bball league. Meaning I missed the entire first half and 3 minutes into the third quarter. What the hell happened? When I finally got in front of a TV, the score was 58-38 with about 9 minutes and some change left in the 3rd. Luckily we won our championship game so I wasn't as pissed as I would have been looking at the final score of 105-88. I can't exactly do a real game recap and analysis without watching the entire game, but looking at the boxscore, highlights and going through the play-by-play here are some thoughts: The Sixers needed to win some key battles that they clearly didn't last night.
Game 2: Denver Nuggets Vs. L.A. Lakers
2008-04-24 18:51:00 (Photos: Getty Images) The L.A. Lakers redefined themselves last night with a huge win and leading them with a score of 2-0 in the playoffs. The final score went to the L.A. Lakers (122-107). No one could stop Kobe Bryant last night, scoring 19 points within a time span of 4:19 of the 4th quarter. ...
Game 2: New Orleans Hornets Vs. Dallas Mavericks
2008-04-24 02:41:00 The New Orleans Hornets win game 2 against the Dallas Mavericks. Chris Paul was hungry for points last night leading the Hornets into every quarter with the winning score. WCQ Game 2: Wild 3, Avalanche 2 (OT)
2008-04-12 14:47:00 If anyone expected the Colorado Avalanche to sweep the Minnesota Wild in the Western Conference Quarterfinals, they were kidding themselves. In that building, in front of that crowd, the Avalanche are lucky to be returning to Denver with a win in hand. After another intense, roller coaster of a game, Keith Carney of the Wild exploited a bad shift by Joe Sakic and his linemates, and got a lucky tip off the skate of Ruslan Salei to win the game just 1:14 into overtime. Sometimes Super Joe isn't all that clutch. Mikko Koivu made him look silly on defense before getting the puck to Carney and the rest is history. The Avalanche have been extremely consistent so far. They've scored first in both games, and then squandered the lead in the third period. Only this time overtime didn't go their way. Peter Forsberg scored a gorgeous goal in the first period off an assist from Jeff Finger, and Milan Hejduk tipped a John-Michael Liles slap shot on a power play...

WCQ Game 2: Overtime Overflow Thread
2008-04-12 06:30:00 Because 400 comments is too many for a single thread. Keep the insanity going here. Milan Hejduk tips a John-Michael Liles slap shot for a goal with just seconds left on the clock. To overtime we go, again. And the Wild look really tired.

WCQ Game 2: Avalanche At Wild, Preview And Open Thread
2008-04-11 17:51:00 Another early start to the game thread because there's nothing else to talk about today except tonight's matchup. Sure, things fell the Avs' way in Game 1, but don't think for a second---even with the mounting injuries faced by the Wild---that Minnesota is out of it. If anything, getting humbled in front of their own crowd is only going to make them play harder. Nobody wants to go home early from the playoffs. Mark Parrish is out, but Martin Skoula will play with a sore leg and Chris Simon will likely be in, so the Avs will have to keep their heads up at all times because he's the dirtiest player in the league. Forsberg needs to stay light on his skates because he'll be dodging two-handers all night long. Even Forsberg shadow Brent Burns is not above cheap play, and neither is the rest of his team. The good news is, Burns had to play 30 minutes in game 1, and if he has to do it again tonight, he'll be toast. Foppa wasn't happy with his...

A Look At Game 2 of the World Series
2008-03-17 20:00:00 From a reader of SOX & Dawgs: Last year I somehow got a hold of a pair of Red Sox tickets to Game 2 of the Red Sox Rockies World Series in Fenway Park. (I have been lucky enough to see both The Police and the Dave Matthews Band in Fenway Park too over the last couple of years.) Anyway, getting tickets to go to Game 2 of the World Series was cool enough, but our seats were behind home plate about 25 rows up as well! So we had a fantastic view of every batter, from Manny to Papi, Elsbury to Pedroia or from Youk to Tek, every at-bat was awesome indeed. We got to see Schilling pitch and Okajima and Papelbon to close. It was a tight game but the ol’ Red Sox pulled out a 2-1 victory. As everyone knows, the Sox went back to Colorado after this game and went on to sweep them in the Rocky Mountains to win the World Series for the second time in four years. I had a great time and it was so cool to see how great the Red Sox had become. Even their rookies like Pedroia and Elsbury play...

Game 29: Avalanche 9, Blues 5
2007-12-10 15:01:00 photo courtesy of David Zalubowski/AP When a hockey game ends with a score of 9-5, the only real way to look at it is by the numbers.
