Michael D is miffed at Obama for suggesting that the solution for oil supply problems is to find more. Apparently to him, that’s not painful enough for us. Look, I know that there are people who are suffering because of high gas prices. I’m one of them, although I know that, like many of you, I can probably afford the prices more than a lot of people. My problem with this is that I think democrats should be solidly be on the side of finding alternative energy. Rising gas prices have made a difference. I’ve noticed a lot more people riding MARTA in Atlanta – a LOT more. I’d be willing to bet many of these people were like me, before I made a commitment to figuring out the system and how to make it work. Pain works. But toward what, I wonder? Personally, I don’t want to see gas prices come down because we’re drilling and finding more. The United States is finally getting a taste of what it’s been like in Europe and the rest of the world forever. When I first moved ...

If the price of oil by the barrel is being driven by futures trading, not supply and demand, or not by source nation pricing, then why are we discussing the need to drill for oil in Alaska and the Gulf? the price will not come down, but the environment will be in jeopardy of a large scale catastrophe. Once again we have our government engaged in propaganda to falsely scare the population into agreeing with concepts introduced solely on the merits of large corporate profits, NOT based on the well being of the peoples, or environments we hope to occupy for EVER.The Republican Senator from Alaska has been accused of false declarations concerning gifts by oil companies to him, he is fighting the claim believing there is enough wiggle room in the laws for his defense to win and justify his "lack of knowledge" of any wrong doing. When our elected officials break the law because they believe the interpretation of the law in a court room can be manipulated enough to give a reason of doubt, ...

Gasoline prices

Don't believe increasing the volume of oil production per day will lower the price per barrel! Our Government and corporations have sold the future of America down the river by allowing the whole sale sell off and mergers of American companies. Now the businesses have left for lower wage workers to keep their products affordable, the layoffs due to this and loss of small business have created a short fall in our gross national product. America is now in a position where it cannot afford to buy what it makes, and neither can our trade partners, so now we import cheap sometimes lethal products, produce little ourselves, the dollar is in a free fall, oil rises in direct response to the value of the dollar and many including the leaders of this once great nation lie through there teeth and tell us all, its the production, its the Saudis, its something other than what it is!We need to stop the buy outs and hope that small business, that which made this country great, small farms, people...
High Gasoline Prices
2008-06-10 03:59:00
Most of us have watched, to our dismay, the high prices for gasoline climb to an unbelievable heights within the last 12 months. This tread has evidently and negatively affected real estate professionals across the country. It has drastically increased our expenditures (both in gasoline and other goods and services, including food). The high prices have also decreased the net income of real estate professionals and other Americans. Ten years ago, few people (except the the executives of oil companies) could have imagined that gasoline would cost $3.95 to $4.99 per gallon. It now costs about $98.00 to fill my vehicle's tank up; whereas, before this War started, it cost only about $20.00 to fill the tank up. Our President invaded Iraq to secure and preserve our access to "unlimited oil". Now, who is benefiting from the war? The trend appears to continue, causing the prices of everything else to rise concomitantly; while oil conglomerates like Exxon-Mobil...

Is Ethanol in Gasoline Really Green, or Just a Scam?

Why are people thinking alcohol in gasoline helps to be 'green'? I can't seem to believe it is better in any way. Or this just a way to making us feel better? CNN Breaks Down the Cause of $4 a Gallon Gasoline
2008-05-20 14:35:00
Surprise, it isn’t Bush: One of the most common reasons cited for the price jump is supply and demand - we are using more oil, which accounts for 70% of the price of gas, and finding less of it. Why we are finding less oil and using more of it is partly a result of the low prices during the 1990s. Those low prices - partly caused by low gas taxes in the U.S. compared to other developed nations - both encouraged rapid consumption domestically (think SUVs) and underinvestment in new production by the world’s oil companies. By the time 2004 rolled around - and developing economies around the globe roared to life - the world was left in a pinch. “Our demand has skyrocketed, but our ability to supply that demand has stagnated,” said Stephen Schork, publisher of the industry newsletter The Schork Report. Gasoline prices topped $2 a gallon for the first time ever in May of 2004, “and we’ve been off to the races since then,” said Schork. Why don&#...

Scrapheap Challenge motorcycles pit electricity against gasoline
2008-05-16 00:26:00
We love the British show Scrapheap Challenge. Reruns of the old Junkyard Wars episodes sometimes appear on satellite TV, and we've seen all of them. The show still runs in the U.K., and the latest episode featured junkyard-derived motorcycles, which the show charitably describes as superbikes. One rule in particular made the challenge rather difficult: no parts originally used on a motorcycle may be used on the scrap-bikes. This made the design of the two-wheelers rather interesting, to say the least. One team decided to go light and nimble with an electric motor and lead-acid batteries. The other team chose to use the engine from a small car. What could be greener than making usable electric machines recycled from discarded junk? Would the powerful internal-combustion engine powered "superbike" grab the victory from the plucky little electric machine? If you'd like to find out, follow the build progress and recaps of the three races which would decide the winner. Thanks for the t...

Soaring Oil and Gasoline Prices Worry Cost Conscious U.S. Consumers

The effects of soaring oil prices are finally trickling down to the pump and consumers are feeling the pinch. On Friday, oil futures hit a new record of over $126 per barrel. Prices jumped 7.4% last week, with crude oil for June delivery trading as high at $126.20 on the New York Mercantile Exchange. “Oil is a safe haven because of the weak dollar and how badly the financial sector has been doing,” Michael Lynch, president of Strategic Energy & Economic Research in Winchester, Massachusetts, told Bloomberg News. “There are also geopolitical concerns about places like Nigeria and Venezuela that are propping…SHARETHIS.addEnt-ry({ title: "Soaring Oil and Gasoline Prices Worry Cost Conscious U.S. Consumers", url: "http://jutiagroup.com/2008/05/-12/soaring-oil-and-gasoline-pri-ces-worry-cost-conscious-us-con-sumers/" });

What are you going to do when Gasoline hits $5. or $6 per Gallon. Don?t kid yourself and believe it is going to go back down to a Buck. Google-"Propane Conversion Automotive". Propane conversion kits are available for 4cyl, 6cyl, and 8cyl engines for about $1500. Previously, these kits were only available for vehicles with carberator intake. Now they are available for almost all vehicles with Electronic Fuel Injection (manufactured 1996 and up) and any mechanic can install them. You can even do it yourself if you are mechanically inclined. Propane or duel fuel conversion will double your mileage, double the life of your engine, double the life of your engine oil, is much less explosive and toxic than gasoline, and best of all, produces 70% less emissions than gasoline. Propane vehicles have been around for as long as gasoline powered engines, so the technology is not new. Mostly they have been used in industrial or off road applications. Gasoline holiday tax
2008-05-02 17:52:00
By VictorM:Both John McCain and Hillary Clinton made similar proposals to suspend the federal gas tax during peak driving months this summer. This holiday tax really is a rotten idea and here's why why:Economists... say the oil companies may end up the biggest beneficiaries, while the aid to families wouldn't be enough to buy a $35 backpack. The trouble with the plan, they say, is that oil prices are rising because of low supplies, and companies will continue to charge the average $3.60 a gallon and just pocket the money that would have gone to federal taxes...Where supplies are fixed -- and oil/gas supplies, for all intents and purposes, are -- it is the demand that determines price. One oil company could cut its gas prices, but it can't sell anymore gas than it already is (because it already sells all the gas it has), so purchasers would have no choice but to get the rest of their gas from someone else. This leaves oil companies with no incentive for lowering prices....

Cut Gasoline Cost Not Only the Toyota Prius
2008-04-21 18:52:00
With the price of oil and gasoline hitting record highs, it's time to wake up and face the crude truth on how you can save money on energy costs. As commodity traders push oil prices ever higher as the dollar recedes, there's little, if any, relief in sight at the fuel pump or from soaring utility bills.Yet the deer-in-the-headlights attitude that most investors, vehicle owners and homeowners adopt is misguided. There are quite a few actions you can take to beat the escalating cost of energy. The most-common response to high gasoline prices is to go out and purchase a high-mileage vehicle. This reaction certainly hasn't hurt the sales of companies such as Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co., which offer several fuel-stingy cars, trucks and vans.If you have a long commute or simply drive a lot, you'll immediately see the savings. There will be longer times between fill-ups. It may not make sense to pay a premium for these cars, though. The top two highest-mileage cars -- the Toy...
So just why is diesel so much more expensive than gasoline now?
2008-04-17 03:43:00
That's a question that defies a simple answer right now. In large part that's because oil companies are so opaque about the realities of their business. Detroit News columnist John McCormick ponders the question of the recent run-up in diesel prices just months ahead of the launch of a slew of new diesel-powered vehicles. Typically, diesel fuel in the U.S. has been at parity or slightly more expensive than gasoline. But in the past couple of months it has shot up to be about thirty percent more expensive. Interestingly, that's just about the efficiency advantage that diesel engines have over gasoline varieties. Is there a connection? Who knows? I certainly don't. But when oil companies are making tens of billions of dollars in profits every quarter, it becomes increasingly difficult to cut them any slack when it comes to the subject of paying for expanded refinery capacity or adjusting the mix of gasoline to diesel fuel. I'm not saying there is any big conspiracy by the oil com...
