Maui Hawaii Celebrate Gay Marriage this Week
2012-01-06 16:08:00
Paradise is a strong word, and I don't use it lightly. But Maui, Hawaii is truly a paradise in every way. It has glorious warm weather all year, with just enough of a breeze from the trade winds to keep you feeling refreshed. The tropical greenery and colourful flowers are spectacular, and there's nothing better than the relaxing sound of the surf crashing on the beach as you drift off to sleep every night. Wouldn't you want to get married in Paradise?! A gay Oklahoma City couple is happy to be on Maui and among the first couples to be joined in a civil union after a state law allowing such unions went into effect last  Sunday. "We are proud to be part of it," said 40-year-old Rich Tucker, a mortgage company owner, shortly before his Monday sunset ceremony with partner 37-year-old David Dobson, a Realtor. "We wanted to have the ceremony somewhere tropical. It's awesome to have accepting people that accept everyone. No one is segregated," Tucker said about Hawaii and...
Gay Marriage Comes to Cancun Mexico in 2012 #gaytravel
2011-12-31 00:10:00
Everybody wants a piece of that pink dollar! The city-state of Mexico City legalized gay marriage in 2010 and remains the only municipality in Mexico where such marriages are officially allowed. Now  Cancun and other resort areas on the Mexican Caribbean will have a new attraction for gay and lesbian couples from the US, Canada  and Europe, allowing them to legalize their unions thanks to a quirk in the local civil code, activist Patricia Novelo.Novelo said that in January the first same-sex group wedding will be held in the resort area as part of local support for the human rights of the gay community.Gay travel groups in the state say they are now preparing to market the state as a destination for gay couples to marry and will promote a mass wedding of gay couples sometime in January. (It was not clear whether the first 8 confirmed couples would wed in separate ceremonies.)The gay travel groups say that travel agencies on average receive about 200 requests per month fro...

NEW YORK CITY is  #1, again, for the 16th year in a row, as the #1 Gay Destination. San Francisco-based Community Marketing, Inc. just released their yearly data. And while some of the results will be less-than-shocking (gay New York City gets high scores, as does gay Miami and gay New Orleans), there are still a few surprises in the 40-page report. The 16th annual survey of its kind analyzes online responses from more than 6,700 U.S. residents and 540 Canadians, completed between September 20 and October 31, 2011.Based on the survey and Department of Commerce tourism statistics, CMI estimates that gay and lesbian tourism generates more than $65 billion a year in the U.S. alone. Here are  some of the more interesting findings of this year?s survey:1. Economy be damned! Overall, the gay and lesbian community reported more trips in the past 12 months, while travel had been down in the past two years? surveys. Both men and women took an average of more than three leisur...

A Battle for the Pink Gay Travel Dollars... Beirut vs. Tel Aviv
2010-10-27 22:52:00
We all know, Gay tourism is a multi-billion-dollar industry. EVERYONE wants our money. And is this economy, it's amazing how many cities have decided GAY IS OK! And are rolling out the red carpet for us!And  two Mediterranean cities are both angling for a piece of the action. The two hotspots, each boasting trendy nightlife, warm climate and carefree attitude, are vying for the pink dollars of the world?s gay tourists. Tel Aviv, Israel?s cultural and business capital, has already earned its place as a must-go destination for globe-trotting gays, and now Beirut is making its pitch, too. ?Western travelers come to us to feel the Arabian spirit,? Bertho Makso, Lebanon?s first and perhaps best-known gay travel operator, told The Media Line . ?And Arabs have come to feel more comfortable.? Beirut and Tel Aviv are less than 200 kilometers (125 miles) apart on the Mediterranean coast, but two-city package tours for gays are not  going to be offered anytime soon. Israel and Lebanon ...
Kent Connecticut Is Becoming The Place For Nuptials, Hiking, Camping and S
2010-10-09 16:03:00
GUEST AUTHOR LYNDON EVANS shares his take on Kent, Connecticut. When folks think of travel and tourism in Connecticut most think of the southeastern part of the state from Essex/Deep River over to Mystic and up to the casino area of Uncasville and Mashantucket. But I?d like to tell you about my part of Connecticut the western side. Recently the Litchfield County Times ran an article by Kathryn Boughton about same-sex marriage and how the village of Kent is becoming the place to celebrate nuptials. A quiet revolution has been taking place in Kent as same-sex couples have made their way to the beautiful little town to solemnize their marriage vows. Town Clerk Darlene Brady said that the number of marriage licenses issued in the town has more than doubled since a New York State minister started to promote Kent as a location for gay and lesbian weddings. She reports there have been 161 gay marriages in Kent since 2008 and another 13 civil unions performed before that. Also boosting th...

Southwest and AirTran Merger a ?Big Win? for Gay Lesbian Travel
2010-10-01 03:20:00
The DC Gay Travel Examiner, Troy Petenbrink, reports that the pending merger of AirTran and Southwest airlines (announced this week)  appears to be a big win for gay travelers. While AirTran has generally remained invisible when it comes to marketing to gay travelers and supporting the gay community, Southwest has been flying sky high. Southwest is a member of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association and has been a supporter of many gay events, including Washington, DC?s Capital Pride. In addition, Southwest operates a corporate-wide gay-specific micro-site: SouthWest GayTravel .  On the site the company states, ?Southwest Airlines is a Company that works hard every day to provide Positively Outrageous Customer Service, regardless of race, religion, and sexuality.  It?s in our DNA and goes to the heart of our Culture of Freedom, inclusiveness, and living and practicing the Golden Rule.? Assuming that Southwest retains AirTran?s current gates, the merger will result in S...
Gay Weddings Planned on SAS Scandinavian Airlines in December
2010-09-16 15:52:00
Scandinavian airline SAS  plans to host the first-ever in-flight gay wedding in December, and is searching for a suitable couple to walk down the airplane aisle. "It will be a very traditional wedding," SAS spokesman Anders Lindstroem told AFP. "There will be wedding cake and dancing in the aisles." SAS has 100 gay couples in the running, with the winning entry will be chosen by an online vote . The ceremony itself would need to take place in Swedish airspace, where gay marriage is legal. As part of SAS Airlines? big new social media contest campaign titled "Love is in the Air"  on December 6, the winning gay or lesbian European-based couple get flown via SAS from Stockholm to New York, and on the way they?ll take over an entire business class cabin and have their same-sex nuptials performing in-flight by the plane?s captain.  Once they land, the newlyweds will enjoy a glam U.S. honeymoon, staying two nights at one of NYC?s finer W Hotels and then jetting off to L.A. for three nigh...

Jay Leno Shows Support for Gay Marriage at Abbey in West Hollywood
2008-06-10 17:48:00
Talk show host Jay Leno showed up at the symbolic mass commitment ceremony at the Abbey in West Hollywood Wednesday night to show his support for gay marriage. Leno - who several times has been criticized for being insensitive towards LGBT people on his late night talk show - said he didn't understand why people are concerned about gays being allowed to marry. Daily News' Greg Hernandez interviewed Leno at the event: Greg: What do you think about gay marriage in California and all that's happened in the last few weeks?Jay: "Well, I come from Massachusetts and they have it there and the sky didn't fall in, everyone seems to be fine. It's one of those things where it's a matter of time, you sort of ease into it and you see what happens." Greg: Do you have any friends who you want to see married?Jay: Oh, I have a lot of gay friends. We have a couple of gay couples at 'The Tonight Show' who've been together 7,8,9 years. "But you know what's so funny to me, it's how people...
Florent Restaurant New York City to Close This Month
2008-06-10 13:26:00
SAD  BUT TRUE!  The legendary  gay 24/7 Florent Restaurant in New York Citys  meat packing disctrict will close it's doors  on Gay Pride June 29th! High-end boutiques, high-end hotels, and the soon-to-be unveiled high-end high-line park have forced Florent?s rent up from $5,000 to $45,000 a month. They are currently holding auctions on EBAY of Flo-morabilia, with proceeds benefiting the staff. The bistro's  goodbye  is in the final weeks;  each week was dedicated to one of the Kubler-Ross stages of grief. Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance. Each theme week has special dishes, decor and performances by familiar faces like burlesque star Dirty Martini, all leading up to a big sad send-off on June 29th, Gay Pride Day.The quirky French bistro ? housed in an old diner that was a speakeasy in the ?20s and a favorite greasy spoon for longshoremen and meatpackers in the ?50s ? has become even more cherished in recent y...
Gay Paris - Don't Be Scammed With The Gold Brass Men's Ring
2008-06-03 14:30:00
My partner and I just got back from the very beautiful, very unfriendly Paris! We had been warned prior to leaving about pick pockets.  Tourists are targeted by scam and rip-off artists everywhere in Europe. If you know the games (spilling the mustard, bus 64 in Rome, and so on), you're less likely to be a victim. By sharing the latest scams (and learning from each others' mistakes) we'll all travel more safely. Remember, pickpocketing attempts throughout Europe can be expected unless you wear a moneybelt under your clothing. Smart travelers leave wallets at home and store their credit cards, passport, paper money and rail ticket(s) in a secure moneybelt. We never had a problem with pick pockets. However, no one warned us about the brass ring scam! On our way walking along the Siene, we met a woman, who was  so nice! That should have been our first clue! Because overall, people were not very nice in Paris.  She seemed so genuine - a really good actress!  Jus...

The Secret Life? of Siegfried & Roy - How The Tiger Kings Tamed Las Vegas
2008-05-20 15:53:00
It's here! The so-called  "scandalous book" that has been talked about for 6 months.      &-nbsp;    &n-bsp; The Secret Life of Siegfried and Roy: How the Tiger Kings Tamed Las VegasI read the book over last weekend. As some of you may know, I worked for S & R  for about 7 years, right up until his accident.  I have  the utmost respect for them. They are inspiring and it was an honor to work with them and for them!Everyone has a personal, private life. Some things they may not want shared with others. VERY FEW people live the life of  an "open book." Especially gay people. Some fear telling their families and/or friends that they are gay. Everyone has  "secrets" or things they may not be proud of, that they keep private. So what? A lot of gay people in the media's eye choose to stay in the closet. Look at Liberace! ( a close friend to Siegfried & Roy). He denied he was gay till the end, eve...
Gay Marriage in California Could be a Reality In Less Than 30 Days!
2008-05-19 23:26:00
In a 4-3 decision last week, California's Supreme Court overturned the state's ban on same-sex nuptials, making California the second U.S. state to permit them ? and the first to allow them for all Americans regardless of where they live.  = Gay Marriage could be a reality in the state of California in  LESS THAN 30 DAYS!Of course, just hours after the  Supreme Court ruled  that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry, Mathew D. Staver was already raising money to overturn the decision. Mr. Staver, the founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, a Florida group that defends traditional marriage, flew to Dallas  last week to discuss how to finance a campaign for the California Marriage Protection Act, a November ballot initiative. ?It?s going to be the largest, most expensive and most hard fought L.G.B.T. ballot measure in the history of the country,? said Geoff Kors, executive director of Equality California, which works on ...
The International Day Against Homophobia MAY 17th
2008-05-08 11:09:00
The International Day Against Homophobia, held on May 17 every year, is a rallying event offering an opportunity for people to get together and reach out to one another. Fondation Émergence promotes, mainly on a pan-Canadian level, the International Day Against Homophobia and encourages organisations and individuals to highlight this event in their environment. In Canada, recognition, for lesbian and gay communities, has been first and foremost a judicial acceptance brought about by the adoption of the Charter of Human Rights. However, judicial advances will remain only that until a complete, unlimited social acceptance of homosexuality is achieved and homophobia wiped out. To achieve this goal, the Fondation Émergence proposed in 2003, along with partners, to hold each year a special day dedicated to the social recognition of homosexual experience. An International Day Against Homophobia belongs to no one individual. It?s about all people hoping for a prejudice-free worl...
Bad Evans Needs Your Help
2008-05-08 10:21:00
&-nbsp;    &n-bsp; This has nothing to do with gay travel at all. But it is something I came across and wanted to share with all of you. In my work, I read a lot of blogs. And I discovered a GLBT blog called BAD EVANS about a month ago. He writes about news, politics, fashion, entertainment, etc. I think he has been blogging about 8 months and has a pretty popular blog. At any rate, he has  been suffering from Sever Ulcerative Colitis for a couple of years now, I found out. He has been on  very high doses of steroids for 2 years now, and they  are  taking their toll on his body. The side effects are becoming just as bad as the disease. The doctors have said that they can?t keep him on that treatment any longer. It?s time to operate. This week, he is   having a complete Colectomy. You know, they go in and take out your entire large intestine, colon and rectum. He is a &nb...
Gay Israel - The Israel Project
2008-05-06 10:15:00
At only 60 years old, Israel has become one of the most progressive countries in the world and the most tolerant country in the Middle East in legislating equality for sexual minorities and ensuring their civil and personal rights.  Most recently, on April 25, Israel recognized the first overseas adoption by a gay couple. The 8-year-old Cambodian-born boy was granted Israeli citizenship.First and foremost, gay rights are protected by law. Gay marriages ? performed outside Israel ? are recognized by the state, and same-sex couples are permitted to adopt. Gays can serve openly in the military. Gender reassignment surgery is legal and openly performed. The gay community has gained wide acceptance throughout Israeli society, including in the political, legal, military and cultural realms. In fact, the city of Tel Aviv has one of the most flourishing gay communities in the world. Since the 1990s, Tel Aviv has hosted Israel?s largest gay pride parade; about 20,000 people attended in ...

k.d.lang - Gay Travel and The Gay / Lesbian Traveler
2008-03-05 10:41:00
Hot on the heels of her recent new album, WATERSHED, k.d.lang talks to THE OUT TRAVELER about her travel habits! "I Always Like to Go Places I've Never Been".... k.d.'s travel tips: Five travel essentials: I travel so light that it's insane. I take one bag no matter where I go, no matter how long I go for. So in that is always my passport; my rosewater spray, which I always have to have; my mala [Buddhist prayer beads]; my iPhone . . . and . . . I think I only have four things, that's how light a traveler I am. Japan: A culture [in Japan] that is dying, unfortunately, is the public baths. I think they are so amazing and such a beautiful part of Japanese tradition. I always seek them out. Australia: Australia is my favorite place to eat, bar none. In Sydney [my favorite eatery is] Longrain, which is a Thai restaurant but very cutting-edge. That's a great place to eat. Santa Barbara, Calif.: I just finished a tour at Santa Barbara. I was finished at 8:30 p.m. and ch...
Michael Lucas is Cleaning House And Selling His Clothes
2008-02-24 19:44:00
going  going  gone! Michael Lucas  has been liquidating his closets  at  his studio! "After a week, we sold about forty percent of the old wardrobe which was used in our films like Dangerous Liaisons, The Intern, Michael Lucas' La Dolce Vita, Gigolo, and others. Not only have we emptied half of the numerous racks piled in our studio, but so far we have made enough to finance an incredible wardrobe for our big, annual blockbuster set to be filmed this summer. There was a wide variety of buyers, from label queens bidding only on Dolce & Gabana shoes and Hermes sweaters to fans bidding on heavily-used sneakers. And of course there was my favorite item that sold?my Calvin Klein underwear, which received 22 bids and went for $123.50! The good news is that I was emptying my storage over the weekend and now I'm going to get rid of another couple hundred items which I no longer use because, you know, how much clothing can one person have? :-) So here'...

HILLARY CLINTON WITH APPEAL TO GAY AMERICANS
2008-02-11 12:47:00
Senator Hillary Clinton issued an open letter to LGBT Americans Monday, saying "America is embracing its LGBT sons and daughters with an acceptance and understanding as never before." By Senator Hillary Clinton As I have traveled around the country these past twelve months, what I sensed in my heart has been confirmed ? America is embracing its LGBT sons and daughters with an acceptance and understanding as never before. On the campaign trail, a father of a gay son will ask about ending Don?t Ask, Don?t Tell. A woman will ask why she can be discriminated against just because of who she is. Sometimes they wait furtively for the crowd to thin and then whisper their confidences in a soft voice and sometimes they stand up proudly at town meetings and want me to share my views on how I will help lead the change to assure that this country fulfills its promise to everyone. Let me tell you what I have been telling voters across America. I am fully committed to the fair and equal treatmen...

2008-02-07 10:02:00
A Cuban minister who accepts gay marriages and traveling permits for Cubans wishing to leave or travel to the island may finally be eliminated, seem to be evidence of a new tolerant environment in the continent?s longest lasting dictatorship.Public statem-ents were made during a debate sponsored by interim president Raúl Castro, brother of ailing Fidel, to bring to light shortcomings and disappointments with the system and thus help to ?deepen communism?.Culture Minister Abel Prieto, a member of the party's powerful Politburo, said Tuesday night that he supports gay marriage, and Silvio Rodriguez, an ardent defender of Fidel Castro as well as a leading voice of the Cuban revolution, said he believes all Cubans should be free to travel abroad and stay in hotels currently reserved for foreign tourists. "I think that marriage between lesbians, between homosexuals can be perfectly approved and that in Cuba that wouldn't cause an earthquake or anything like that," Prieto...

Lance Bass Interview- Advocates 1000th Issue
2007-12-21 11:24:00
Lance Bass is featured on The Advocate's landmark 1000th issue. In the cover story, Bass discusses what he perceives as the gay community's love/hate relationship with him (discerned mainly via the comments left on gay blogs) He also talks about his training for space and the various relationships he's had since coming out.Bass attributes much of the vitriol directed at him to remarks he made in his People magazine coming out article, in which he called himself "a straight-acting gay" and chalks the comment up to naïveté.Says Bass to the magazine: "You know, every community is hard to please. Our community is very ?ckle. It?s a touchy community because it?s the last civil rights movement we have left here in America. So when someone new like myself comes along and says off-the-mark things, yeah, I can see how people would get pissed...When most people come out, they deal with it out of the public eye, and they start getting educated about it. Me, I had 24 hours t...

The Best Pizza In Chicago Is At Pie Hole
2007-12-14 11:00:00
Everyone likes something different. Ask 100 people is Chicago what their favorite pizza is and you would probably get 100 different answers! There is lots of great pizza in this town - I happen to really  like  PIE  HOLE, in Boystown at 737 W. Roscoe. And I really like their clever marketing! The owner has created catchy phrases  like "Where else can you get a large sausage at 2am?"  and "From our hole to yours" and "Damn good toppings - and pretty good bottomings!"BOI Magazine  says, "Going home after the bars unsatisfied? Not to worry, there's another hole ready and waiting. How about a place with as many tasty tops as delectable bottoms? Where you can grab a tossed salad and a warm pie all to yourself or to share! No, I'm not referring to local bathhouse, change it up a bit, try Pie Hole. It's the trendy Boystown pizza den we all know and love with a new owner and new tricks up it's sleeve. Steps from the Halsted strip and open till ...

OUTZONE asked Steven, "Does being on the show, get you laid more?" - To which he said,"You know, in a perfect world, it would. I have never had so little sex as the last four weeks. It?s just crazy. ? It feels like I get to eight parties every seven days. And it?s just nuts. And maybe part of it is just me going, ?Oh I gotta keep a low profile." CONGRESS SHOOTS DOWN MATTHEW SHEPARD HATE CRIMES BILL
2007-12-08 13:08:00
Imagine being beaten to death for being different.... Matthew Shepard (December 1, 1976 ? October 12, 1998) was an American student at the University of Wyoming who was brutally attacked near Laramie, because he was gay, on the night of October 6 ? October 7, 1998. He was robbed, repeatedly pistol whipped, tortured, tied to a fence in a remote, out in a rural area, and left to die. Shepard died from severe head injuries at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado, on October 12. His murder brought national attention to the issue of hate crime legislation at the state and federal levels. His two assailants, Russell Henderson and Aaron McKinney, were convicted of the crime and imprisoned. Henderson is currently serving two consecutive life sentences and McKinney is serving the same but without the possibility of parole.  Henderson and McKinney were not charged with a hate crime,  as no Wyoming criminal statute provided for such a charge. The disturbing an...
