"It's a sin to be poor." - George Bernard Shaw
2008-07-23 11:00:00
If you trace the etymology (roots) of the word sin to its Greek origin, you’ll find that it comes from an archery term meaning "to miss the mark." In today’s society, you’re compensated monetarily based upon the value (real or perceived) that you provide. For example, we obviously place more value on our own entertainment than we do our own evolution, transformation and growth. Witness the difference in remuneration between an actor and a teacher. We also have no problem compensating our sports figures multiple millions of dollars per year to chase balls around a field (Tiger Woods pulled in over $80 million last year), but we think that our spiritual teachers are supposed to be paupers. That's faulty logic. It's interesting to me that many of us in... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

George Bernard Shaw & 3 Reasons to be unreasonable
2008-05-17 14:49:00
George Bernard Shaw quote from "Maxims for Revolutionists", Man and Superman (1903): "The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man."You might believe that pioneers, explorers, inventors and other non-conformists would all be unreasonable.  They may lead lives that go against your views of what is safe, possible, desirable, comfortable or comptible with your conditioning or genetics.  Up-on closer look, people viewed as unreasonable are the sort who "rock the boat,"  raise a standard, shatter a myth, challenge the status quo, and encourage others to stretch ther perception and imagination.  Take a look at three reasons to review 'unreasonable':1) What do you gain from being unreasonable in your life?2) How has hearing about unreasonable people ...

Roger Casement & George Bernard Shaw
2008-03-08 10:50:00
Roger CasementIRELAND’S HERORoger Casement (1864-1916) was an unlikely Irish patriot. Baptized a Catholic, but bred an Ulster Protestant, he was a loyal subject of the British crown for most of his life. He entered the British consular service in 1895. Posted to remote locations in Africa and South America, he won international fame for exposing the brutal exploitation of native peoples in the Belgian Congo and the Putumayo basin between Peru and Columbia. His humanitarian work earned him a knighthood in 1911. But it gave him little satisfaction. Gradually, he came to realize that beneath the braid of a British consul, there beat an Irish heart. Abandoning his career, he joined the radical wing of the Irish nationalists -- those who wanted complete independence for Ireland, rather than just home rule within the United Kingdom. When World War I broke out, he went to Germany to negotiate an alliance between the Irish ultra-nationalists and the German government. The alliance promised ...

Pygmalion (1913) is a play by George Bernard Shaw based on Ovid's tale of Pygmalion. It tells the story of Henry Higgins, a professor of phonetics (based on phonetician Henry Sweet), who makes a bet with his friend Colonel Pickering that he can turn a Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, into a refined society lady merely by teaching her how...

Relatos Estivales: George Bernard Shaw ? ?Pigmalión?
2007-06-19 11:46:00

Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it.
