I woke up yesterday and decided that was it. We were going to visit the Getty and we did. It was scorching hot yesterday but the Getty's location perched above the city and with a great view of the Pacific Ocean provided an ideal setting. It felt at least ten degrees cooler than the rest of Southern California.I was impressed from the moment we arrived at the Center. There were two very organized lines to lead us into the parking lot. Parking is $8.00 and the only thing that you will have to pay for when visiting the center. We found a spot and headed up to load the tram that would lead us to the museum. The sale could reach a forecasted price of $1.5 billion. “While the evaluation process, including discussions with various interested parties, is ongoing, there can be no assurance that any transaction will occur,” the company said in a statement. Gettys shares soared on Tuesday after it acknowledged it is exploring strategic alternatives. With the enlistment of investment bank, Goldman Sachs, to facilitate financial advice, several private equity firms have expressed interest in Getty, such as Bain Capital and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts. Perched in the Brentwood Hills of Los Angeles, it is home to the J. Paul Getty Museum as well as research and conservation institutes. Though a frequent destination of mine for art history research papers, its noteworthy offerings extend far beyond the paintings and sculptures of it’s galleries. It is a truly an ethereal place, with modern exteriors of imported travertine and a spectacular view that sweeps from the Pacific’s shores to the local mountains. Decorously displaced from the dirt and din of city, this opulent piece of paradise seems to float above it all. The Photographers? trade associations are awaiting a reply from Getty but, as I mentioned previously, I suspect that this battle is already lost.The problem is that other agencies will inevitably follow suit and the likes of Corbis and Jupiter might not prove to be viable alternatives for photographers seeking representation. Time will tell and I hope that the fears of the Stock Artists Alliance and other associations will prove to be unfounded. I parked off to the side in the neighborhood, and we rode together to park ONE car in the parking lot. It was busy and crowded when we got there around 12. PICTURES ARE WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS - so I'll post pictures later on my ../album. After, we went to the Getty Museum, we ended up going to The Grove.
