Fate of Ghost Rider 2 uncertain

It?d be hard to pack more awesome in Marvel?s upcoming slate than is already there, especially now that they own their own properties and can cross mingle their franchises. But what of the titles that aren?t there? Films like ?Magneto,? ?Spider-Man 4,? and ?Ghost Rider 2.? Are they still in the pipeline? The simple answer, of course, is that Marvel doesn?t own the rights to those films, and that they are going ahead as previously scheduled with other studios. Or not. Consider ?Ghost Rider 2.? 2008-03-11 01:06:00 I can't believe I'm even writing about this.If Oscar-winner Halle Berry had 'Catwoman', Oscar-winner Nicholas Cage had 'Ghost Rider'. I watched it tonight. Perhaps the worst film I have ever seen, with one small caveat: the Ghost Rider itself. Dreadful in every respect, the film had this wonderful icon at heart, an icon that rose above Cage, Mendes and the rubbish, and deserved far, far better than the surrounding farrago. A beautiful flaming light; an awful pile of shite.

I just wasn?t impressed with Way?s writing at all. The new scribe on Ghost Rider is Jason Aaron. He is the writer over on Wolverine, and while Aaron has never blown me away, he certainly has never disappointed like Way has. It is fun stuff, though, and very much in the spirit of the Marvel comic book of the same name. Nicolas Cage works well in the role; his dead-pan humor is well suited to the role of motorcycle stuntman Johnny Blaze, and the scene in which he attempts to explain himself to his long-lost girlfriend is classic stuff, full of awkward pauses and an eyebrow put to good use. This is, after all, a movie based on a comic book hero, and what superhero worth his heat-vision doesn’t indulge in a dose of the melodramatic every so often? It comes with the territory.
