Billy Gibbons: music radar interview
2009-07-01 00:33:00
Gibbons received perhaps the highest blessing a musician could receive, when, as a young man fronting his first band, The Moving Sidewalks, he opened shows for the one and only Jimi Hendrix. Not only was Hendrix impressed by the teenaged Texan's command of the six string, but he called him "America's best young guitar player." "When you've got the man who practically invented or reinvented what... This is a content summary only. Visit Truth In Shredding to find out more!

Superman: Las historias de Alan Moore (Moore/Gibbons/Swan/Veitch)
2008-08-15 09:11:00

Gibbons gets the Boot
2008-04-01 02:31:00
The Baltimore Orioles released OF/1B/DH, Jay Gibbons, on Sunday, less than 24 hours away from their opening day game against the Tampa Bay Rays (which they lost to the Rays Monday afternoon at Camden Yards at Orioles Park, 6-2). It appears as though the O's staff just lost patience with Gibbons,
Jay Gibbons Released By O's
2008-03-31 08:50:00
Jay Gibbons was released by the Orioles on Sunday. Once considered an up-and-coming fantasy star, the Orioles released their often injured first baseman after he batted .189 without a homerun in spring training. Gibbons seemed to be a star on the rise back in 2002, when the ten 25 year old smashed 28 homeruns. He followed in '03 with 100 RBI, and two years later slugged 26 homeruns. In the past...

Jay Gibbons was released Sunday by the Baltimore Orioles, who lost patience waiting for the oft-injured outfielder to regain the form that enabled him to hit 26 home runs in 2005. Gibbons batted .189 with no homers and four RBIs in 16 games this spring training after playing in only 84 games last season. Read the ...

The Fate Of Gibbons?
2008-03-30 17:31:00
In a few hours, we'll know if he's made the team or not. Speaking to a few media guys, just out of speculation, they believe he'll be sent on his way and that Scott Moore will make the team...If anyone attended "The State of the Orioles" at Fan Fest with Andy MacPhail and Dave Trembley they could read in between in the lines. What do you all think?
Orioles Release Jay Gibbons
2008-03-30 16:43:00
The Orioles today released their second longest tenured player, Jay Gibbons. In doing so, the O's must eat the remaining $11.9MM in salary. Gibbons batted .230-6-28 in only 84 games last season. His 62 OPS+ was only the second time in his career that he posted a number below 100. Injuries have hampered Gibbons who has only played 100 games once in the past four years. His best season came in 2005 when he hit .277-26-79 with an OPS+ of 118. Gibbons is still facing a 15-game suspension for use of Performance Enhancing Drugs. The suspension was recently postponed as the league negotiates stiffer penalties with the players' union. It is widely believed that Gibbons will have his suspension lifted as part of the agreement. Cork Gaines writes for Rays Index and can be reached here.
Guillen and Gibbons given repreives from guilt
2008-03-30 14:24:00
Newsday reports that MLB players Jay Gibbons and Jose Guillen, both linked to HGH and PEDs will not begin 15 suspensions as previously planned.  So much for Bug Selig saying what he means and meaning what he says. Major League Baseball put the suspensions of the Orioles' Jay Gibbons and the Royals' Jose Guillen on hold for 10 days, giving lawyers more time to reach an agreement toughening baseball's drug rules. The outfielders were suspended for 15 days each by commissioner Bud Selig on Dec. 6 after media reports linking them to performance-enhancing drugs. The penalties were to start Sunday. "Pretty surprising," Gibbons said. "Put it this way: I'm cautiously optimistic. At least they're talking." Negotiators are close to an agreement that would call for more frequent testing and would strengthen the authority of the independent program administrator. If there is an agreement, the suspensions most likely will be eliminated as part of an overall amn...

Odds And Ends: Lahey, Gibbons, Freel
2008-03-29 11:27:00
A couple minor notes this morning... The Phillies claimed reliever Tim Lahey off of waivers from the Cubs. Lahey was the top pick in the Rule 5 draft from the Twins' system. The Cubs had to expose Lahey to waivers prior to offering him back to the Twinkies. Rule 5 rules still apply with the Phillies, so Lahey must remain on their 25-man roster all season or be offered back to Minnesota. John Fay notes that after the Reds latest round of cuts the roster sits at 26 which could open the door for a trade. He doesn't offer any potential names, but Ryan Freel still seems like the most logical choice.  By the way, LEN3 notes that the Reds called the Twins about Freel and the Twins weren't interested. Peter Schmuck thinks that the Orioles might be reluctant to cut Jay Gibbons while Major League Baseball continues to renegotiate the league's drug policy. Gibbons is facing a 15-day suspension for use of PEDs but many believe the suspension will be lifted under the new agreement which...

A reprieve for Gibbons and Guillen
2008-03-28 18:58:00
Thanks to the imminent announcement of a new baseball drug policy, Jose Guillen and Jay Gibbons are seeing their suspensions delayed for 10 days. Once the policy is announced, it is overwhelmingly likely they will be rescinded entirely.I'm not sure why these two were singled out for a stay of execution, but Guillen owners should rejoice. Their likely 20ish round draft pick just went up about 10% in value. Gibbons owners should take stock of the fact that they have somehow allowed him to pollute their roster.Since I took Guillen very late in more than one league, I'm feeling pretty good about myself. On one of my rosters, my 19th-round pick now looks like a 17th-round value. It's the little things that make me happy. Of course, Guillen better continue with whatever ... training regimen ... he was using previously or his numbers may plummet.
The Rundown: The 5th Starter; The Saga of Gibbons, Spring Training Home, Ev
2008-03-28 18:34:00
Well, the 2008 regular season is upon us, and the good news is we now know who our fifth starter is --- Brian Buress. I figured he'd get the nod after his strong start, and like I said the other day, he was a great spot starter for the first half of the season, but he wilted and it seemed the more time went on, the less effective he was.Only time will tell if he can stay consistent throughout the 2008 season. Considering the expectations of the pitching staff, he'll be given ample opportunity to get a permanent shot in holding down the role.***After everything, Jay Gibbons may not be suspended, after all.In a piece in the Baltimore Sun yesterday, "The commissioner's office and the players union are negotiating changes to Major League Baseball's drug policy in the wake of the Mitchell Report, and the result could be the rescinding of Gibbons' 15-day suspension for violating the substance-abuse prevention program."Ok, if he's not going to be suspended -- if I were Andy MacPhail,...

The Saga of Gibbons
2008-03-25 04:06:00
Jay Gibbons.Right now, perhaps no else on the roster is reviled by fans as much as this fellow. He's not done much in the past 2 years, and with an exorbitant salary along with his name in the Mitchell Report and drug connection, it's little wonder why people feel the way they do.Hey, Brian Roberts had his name ensnared in the drug issue; however, he produces -- Gibbons doesn't.What in the world should we do with him? He?s a nice guy, but at this point, he?s taking up space on the roster and could leave a more deserving guy off (item: Scott Moore).Do we ex-communicate him, give him another chance, let him play through his problems, or cut him and see if the Orioles can get their millions back? It looks like he?s gone from a decent power hitter, to merely bad, to perhaps now horrible. He?ll be suspended 15 games, but will triumphantly return. Now, in his absence the Orioles are leaning towards sending Gibbons to minor league while serves out his suspension. As well, the organizatio...

Blue Jays | Gibbons likes what he sees from Wells
2008-03-10 18:39:00
Ken Fidlin, of the Toronto Sun, reports Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said he like what he has seen from OF Vernon Wells’ swing and his approach at the plate and expects Wells to do well this season. "I was watching him hit in the cage before the game the other day and that's as good as I've seen his swing look in two or three years. His shoulder is fine and I think he's going to have a big, big year. I really do," Gibbons said. Gibbons likes Wells in the third position in the batting order.
Odds and Ends: Roberts, Gibbons, Matthews
2008-03-09 21:22:00
The Cubs and Orioles continue to be linked in trade speculation involving Brian Roberts. The latest from the Chicago Tribune says that an Orioles scout was in attendance for Sean Gallagher's two hitless innings on Saturday. The amount of time it's taking for these two clubs to get their acts together on this deal continues to be mind-boggling. The Trib is also reporting that Jon Lieber took a big step towards earning the fifth spot in the Cubs rotation on Saturday, coming through with four shutout innings against the Diamondbacks. Ryan Dempster and Jason Marquis are also in the mix.  It figures that the loser(s) of this battle could be trade candidates. Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun is reporting that Jay Gibbons looks like a natural pick to be the odd man out in Baltimore's outfield, but the two years and $11.9MM left on his contract-- plus the small matter of an appearance in the Mitchell Report and his upcoming 15-day suspension for violating MLB's drug policy-- means...

Sorry for the lack of posts today - I have been out and about today and I was up in Baltimore County earlier on WNST with James Baker of Oriole Magic on the Sports with Mark Suchy where we chatted about the Orioles and the Hot Stove. It was a good time, and even though we were on for more than an hour and time sure went by real fast.Anyhow, it is a few days after the Jay Gibbons steroid announcement and Oriole Nation more or less wants him gone from the organization. However, it will be easier said than done considering his contract and the time, plus money left on it. I think will he will remain with the team, but he will be role player unless he can hit his way into the every day lineup. As most fans know, Gibbons will be suspended for 15 games. The Baltimore Examiner has more on the situation.Despite Gibbons' carefully crafted apology, the Baltimore Sun's Rick Maese has poked a few holes into it and basically rendered it useless in article on Friday.
