Ryan Giggs Takes United to be a Champions
2008-05-11 18:54:00 Ryan Giggs couldn?t contain his delight having scored the goal that sealed United?s tenth Premier League crown. But the Reds? winger, who was a second-half substitute for Ji-sung Park, says doing it in a game where he equalled Sir Bobby Charton?s appearance record is a mere aside.?It feels great,? he said of his record-extending tenth title. ?I?m not bothered about individual records, this is what it?s all about ? championships.?We knew it would be a tough game, and it was. We did well in the first half and got that first goal. Then it was a case of holding on.?Giggs? goal nine minutes from time ended any hopes of a late Wigan intervention, and it couldn?t have happened to a more deserving player.?It was a great goal just to settle us down,? added the Welshman. ?We felt a little more comfortable after that.?The 34-year-old is now targeting a double in Moscow a week on Wednesday. Did Fergie get it wrong?
2008-04-27 14:48:00 Most ManUtd fans that i have spoken to since yesterday are saying that Fergie got his team selection wrong but is that really the case? The team that started yesterday was:Van Der Sar, Brown, Vidic, Ferdinand, Silvestre, Fletcher,Carrick, Anderson, Nani, Giggs and Rooney. Now is this really a weak team? Yes there is not Tevez, Ronaldo and Evra but that team was perfectly capable of getting a result against Chelsea. I am nowgoing to go through every starting player and say why i think it wasnt a rubbish team.Van Der Sar is our first choice goalie, so you cannot moan about him starting.Brown has been a first choice player since Neville was injured and he is currently keeping Neville out of the side. Brown has had a fantastic season so far.Vidic has come back from a illness, he was stretchered off in the eary part of the match and replaced by Hargreaves. He was in the staring line up, Vidic and Ferdinand have been for me the best central partnership this season in the Premier LeagueFerd...

United's Best Midfield?
2008-02-25 14:24:00 You can pretty much guess what Manchester United's best team is except for the midfield. Van Der Sar is in goal. The defence is Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra with Rooney and Tevez upfront. But what about the midfield? There is so much talent to pick from, the only player i would say is guarnteed a place is Ronaldo. So who are the other three? ~ The choices are: Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson, Giggs, Carrick, Scholes, Fletcher, Park and Eagles. ~ Giggs and Scholes are getting older but they still have a massive part to play in the United team. Nani and Anderson joined United in the summer and they have surprised me how quickly they have settled down into the team. Fletcher hasnt played much so far this season but when he has come in, he has played extremly well. Everyone knows about Ronaldo, he in my opinion is currently the best player in the world. For me, Park isnt good enough, he is a good player but i dont think he can play a big part, but i would love it if he could prove me wrong...

Ferguson, Giggs, Stapleton all wrong - Ronaldo still dives
2007-12-09 00:51:00 3rd December 2007, Alex Ferguson says of Cristiano Ronaldo, after he failed to win a penalty: "The penalty kick incident is a result of perceived idea of the referee that Ronaldo dives" 3rd December 2007, Ryan Giggs then chips in: "I think he is paying for his reputation. He did have a reputation (for diving) when he first came over here but that has gone now." 4th December 2007, Frank Stapleton compliments Ronaldo on his honesty: "It's a pity because I think Ronaldo has taken diving out of his game now." 8th December 2007, Man Utd are 3-1 up on Derby and cruising. Flick to three minutes in. I'll let you judge for yourself. In other news, Roy Keane sent Alf Inge Haaland a Christmas card this year, Blackburn are top of the fair play list, Rafa Benitez knows his best team, and John Terry is voted the face of the 'respect the referee' campaign.

Giggs buggers off
2007-05-30 17:50:00 Just as David Beckham is relaunching his England career, his former teammate Ryan Giggs has decided that Saturday's game against the Czech Republic will be his last for Wales. The idea of 'retiring' from international football has always struck me as odd. I don't think any self-respecting countryman should give up on the chance to represent his nation. In truth, Giggs has always been a bit iffy about turning out for Wales. And if he's not keen on carrying on, he should take his hairy little frame back to Manchester for good. He's the captain, for God's sake. What sort of message does that give out? If at first you don't succeed, give up and have a personalitiless sulk with Paul Scholes? The bailing out culture of modern football has got to stop. These guys are paid astronomical amounts of money and whether they like it or not they are role models to children all over the globe. With John Toshack snubbing experienced pros and experienced pros snubbing John Toshack, there's a re...

Giggs: 'This can be the best United ever'
2007-05-13 01:45:00 United's favourite old son is revelling in a new central role - and is convinced Ferguson's latest creation could surpass previous generationsSpring is in the air and in everyone's step around Old Trafford, most notably in that of the oldest of the old boys. Once Chelsea's new money took over from Arsenal's aristocrats, Sir Alex Ferguson and Ryan Giggs must privately have wondered whether their handsome medal collection was complete; but after today's home game with West Ham the Premiership trophy will be handed back to Manchester United, and on Saturday the chance exists to complete a fourth Double. Giggs, like Ferguson, appears to have been given a new lease of life by the emergence of this young United side and there is something touching about his obvious excitement at the prospect of walking out at Wembley again.Winning the Cup would be Giggs's 17th major honour, eclipsing Liverpool's Phil Neal as the English game's most decorated player, and at 33 he is entitled to ad...
Giggs: Manchester United Can Be Confident Go Through
2007-04-26 10:41:00 Ryan Giggs says Manchester United remain confident of overcoming AC Milan after last night's 3-2 Champions League first-leg triumph at Old Trafford."It was always going to be tough," he told MUTV. "We didn't want to give away goals but we've got to go out there with confidence."It's not always possible to play great football every week, so not playing well and winning can make all the difference, especially at this stage of the season. We've done it a few times this season and it's what we used to do when we were winning titles."Giggs, who supplied the pass for Rooney's injury-time winner, praised the character shown in coming back from conceding two goals in the first half at Old Trafford. He feels United are capable of scoring at San Siro like first leg, with PFA Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo also in fine form."If we keep our tempo and keep our shape we will create chances," said Giggs."Of course it will be difficult at the San Siro, but I saw enough in our second-hal...

Giggs is no longer Wales' only world class player
2007-03-24 18:33:00 What an uninspiring afternoon. Most of the people in the pub couldn't even be bothered to watch the football. And while we are on the subject, why on earth are our national team's games only available on satellite television? Everyone should be able to watch their country perform.Except that Wales didn't perform today. Giggs is no longer Wales' only world class player. That's because he's not world class anymore. As captain, he should have galvanised the team and led by example. Instead, he was woeful and his complete lack of impact was epitomised by two wasted free kicks towards the end of the game. Here's hoping for an Israel win to salvage something from the day.
Could Ryan Giggs Silence the Kop in his 700th appearance
2007-03-01 17:27:00 Last October, Paul Scholes marked his 500th appearance in Reds' shirt by scoring the goal that effectively knocked Liverpool out of the title race before the clocks go back. Could Ryan Giggs make the same headline in his 700th appearance when United entertain The Kop at Anfield on Saturday...The Welsh winger is second in the club's list of all time appearance-makers and is fast approaching Sir Bobby Charlton's record total of 759. When the Reds line up at Anfield on Saturday, it will be 16 years and a day since the United winger made his debut against Everton in the old first division. How fitting it would be if, on his 700th appearance, he also struck his 100th league goal.Click Here To View Ryan Giggs StatisticsSources: redcafe.net, manutd.com, bbc.co.uk, sporting-heroes.net |
