Comment on McCain-Lieberman gets Barr 15%, says Gingrich
2008-08-31 02:16:00
Well, too late for McCain to select Lieberman, but that would have been great -- especially if it had split the party and resulted in 15% or more voters going Libertarian. I've long been unaffiliated with a party and have often voted for Libertarian candidates if and when they are on the ticket here. We need a strong party that advocates small government, fiscal conservatism and genuine respect for our rights as individual citizens.

Newt Gingrich Is Lost In Space!
2008-05-07 20:28:00
Fear not, GOP, your deliverer is at hand (or so he thinks anyway). This New York Times story (I pretty much don?t even bother with the Inquirer anymore unless something extraordinarily stupid is published, though I should check out other sites more I guess) tells us that the author of the Contract On America is back to warn his fellow party members of impending doom (doesn?t take a rocket scientist or even a TV actor to see this one coming, does it?)?In what was titled ?My Plea to Republicans,? published on the Web site of the periodical Human Events, Mr. Gingrich, a former speaker, urged House Republicans to convene an emergency meeting in the wake of Saturday?s loss of a longtime Republican House seat in Louisiana. He called on them to force the leadership into devising a new approach to the coming elections.?This plan should involve real change in legislative, communications, and campaign strategy and involve immediate, real action, including a complete overhaul of the Congression...
Gingrich: Wright May Be Deliberately Trying to Hurt Obama

Newt Gingrich Is Wrong: There Should Be No Federal Role in Education
2008-03-31 12:30:00
There was a time in America’s history when the Republican party stood for limited government. No more. The conservative Republican posterboy and architect of the “Contract with America” gave a speech at the American Enterprise Institute, where he “called on the secretary of defense to give a speech every year on the state of our schools.” Why would he call for such a thing? Because Newt Gingrich says that America’s schools are “a matter of national security.” Homeschooled. He said he’d argue that point with any conservative. Well… This position is generally taken by liberals, which is the main reason I was so surprised to hear Gingrich say it. The argument goes as such: the education of children benefits all of society, and the better they are educated the stronger the country is; therefore, since the strength of the entire nation is fixed to the education of the children, the responsibility for such an impor...

The Era of Reagan Is Not Over; Conservativism Ain't Dead!

If you missed the Rush Limbaugh Show Tuesday, January 15, 2008, or if you were dozing or distracted, you need to read this transcript! Rush was armed by an interview with Newt Gingrich and triggered by a call from a Moron. The resulting rant was one of the best ever, if not the absolute best. Here is a small sample to whet your appetite for wisdom. You know, all this sounds like Third Way kind of talk, the triangulation of the Clinton years in the nineties. But I don?t know what the McCain era would be, and I don?t know what the Huckabee coalition is. They don?t have a coalition. They?re out trying to get votes of independents and Democrats. They?re pandering to moderates and independents. Folks, I just want you to think about this: What happens if either of these two guys happen to win, attracting the votes of independents, moderates, the Jell-Os, and Democrats? Does that not equal the demise of the Republican Party? Now click the link above and start reading, then copy this po...
Gingrich backing Rudy or Huckabee?
2008-01-15 17:14:00
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HU8f_0y_U5o On this morning’s Today show, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich — who was at one point rumored to be considering a White House run — seemed to imply that he was torn between supporting former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Gov. Mike Huckabee. “I’m not endorsing him… But I’ve said everywhere, and I cite him in every speech I give, if you look at New York is like today, and you look at the remarkable drop in crime, this is the safest large city in America. And it’s worth studying what Giuliani did here.” Just FYI, over in the Corner a little while back, Mark Levin blogged that Gingrich was helping Huckabee behind the scenes, along with Dick Morris. If he does want to back Rudy or Huckabee, he better do it soon. Such an endorsement would have probably been most helpful in South Carolina, but with less than four days to go, that’s not an option. He could always be waiting for just ...

MACON, GA…12/11/07 5:20pm EST…At a rally for supporters today, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich announced his candidacy for the 2008 Presidential Election. Quizzed about his late start, Gingrich stated “The Republican Party is almost dead – literally – so I’m doing whatever I can to prolong the inevitable.” Asked then about his chances of winning the Republican primary, Newt stated “It’s going to be a fight, but I have a loyal base of octogenarians, Fox News doomsdayists, AIPAC members, weapons dealers and Dixie wavin’ southerners.” Asked then if he would like to "super size [his] hamburger combo," Gingrich stated “Ummm, sure . . . but can I pay for this with a credit card?".VIDEO: OLBERMAN RIPPING NEWT

Stop the insanity: Key ?liberal? says Gingrich a ?great thinker?
2007-11-08 01:27:00
And you college football fans thought you were having a weird year. Pity the poor political junkies. This all happened in just the last couple of days: a Libertarian candidate raked in over $4 million in one day, a liberal senator says Newt Gingrich is a genius, and supposedly fed-up Dems capitulated on yet another Bush nominee. The latest Evans-Novak Political Report has quite a bit on Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), the so-called “fringe” candidate running for the White House. Paul’s online haul is, per the report, “the largest single day of online fundraising in political history, and the largest single day of donations for any Republican candidate ever.” The report crows quite a bit about Paul, but that shouldn’t come as a total shock, as Novak has previously sung the praises of the Texas maverick. Speaking of singing praises, liberal Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) says that wannabe president Newt Gingrich, disgruntled architect of the Contract with Ameri...

ISIS Catches Syria in a Nuclear Coverup
2007-10-30 16:39:00
From Newt Gingrich:Satellite Photos Show Suspected Syrian Nuclear Sites Wiped CleanCommercial satellite photos taken last Wednesday show that the suspected nuclear weapons production site in Syria bombed by Israel last month have been quickly "wiped clean" by Syrian authorities.According to analysts, Syria's quick clean up of the bombing sites is a tacit admission of guilt for something they have always denied: That they were, in fact, attempting to build nuclear weapons until Israel stopped them.In August, satellite photos of the site showed a tall square building on the site. But the site had been wiped clean by last week. Look at these images from the Institute for Science and International Security: The ISIS website has more pictures and analysis. And former UN Ambassador John Bolton had an excellent piece in the Wall Street Journal (subscription required). They say a picture is worth 1,000 words. If so, this is 1,000 words worth of proof that we live in a dangerous world. And...

Newt Gingrich: Bush Campaign Cheap & Nasty
2007-10-01 00:00:00
Nasty Newt Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich recently admitted that the 2004 Bush campaign against Sen. Is Hillary Clinton the New Old Al Gore?
2007-09-30 23:55:00
The Democrats can't lose the White House in 2008, can they? Some 13 months before Election Day, the race's dynamic seems immutable. Americans can't wait to evict the unpopular president and end his disastrous war. As the campaign's poll-tested phrasemaking constantly reminds us, voters crave change above all else. That means nearly any Democrat might do, even if the nominee isn't the first woman, black or Hispanic to lead a major party's ticket. The Republican field of aging white guys, meanwhile, gets flakier by the day. The front-runner has taken to cooing to his third wife over a cellphone in the middle of campaign speeches. His hottest challenger, the new "new Reagan," may have learned his lines for "Law & Order," but clearly needs cue cards on the stump. In Florida, even the most rudimentary details of red-hot local issues (drilling in the Everglades, Terri Schiavo) eluded him. The party's fund-raising is anemic. Its snubs of Hispanic and African-American voters kisse...
Poll: Obama Ahead of Clinton in Iowa
2007-09-30 23:24:00
Sen. Hillary Clinton holds a double-digit lead over her rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination in many national polls. But in Iowa, home to the January 2008 caucus that is the first major event of the electoral season, the Democratic race is much tighter, according to the latest NEWSWEEK Poll. Among all Iowa Democrats surveyed, Clinton enjoys a 6-point lead over her nearest rival, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. But among likely Democratic caucus-goers, she is locked in a three-way race with Obama and former North Carolina senator John Edwards, with Obama enjoying a slight edge. Meanwhile, the NEWSWEEK Poll found that former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney has emerged as the top choice among Iowa?s GOP voters?well ahead of former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, who leads in most national polls. But Romney?s religious beliefs could pose a problem; less than half of all Republicans in the state (45 percent) think the country is ready to elect a Mormon president (35 percen...
Ron Paul on Track to Surprise Again with Third-Quarter Fundraising
2007-09-30 23:10:00
As the fundraising quarter draws to a close at midnight tonight, candidates are scrambling to boost their numbers by any means necessary (we've received two fundraising pitches signed by candidates with the subject line "Hey," and one from a spouse headed "Re: Hey"). And while he's gotten little attention outside his fervent and fanatic fan base, Texas Congressman Ron Paul, who finished the second quarter with more cash on hand than Sen. John McCain, could have another surprise in store for the media establishment his supporters so often malign. In the run-up to the filing deadline, Paul's supporters were asked to help the candidate raise $500,000 in just a few days. That's more than former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee raised in the entire first quarter, by the way. Yesterday, the Paul campaign revised its goal -- supporters had raised $850,000 already, and the campaign was shooting for $1 million by midnight tonight. The campaign reached the $1 million mark last night, a ful...
Bill Clinton, Gingrich Agree on Huckabee as GOP Dark Horse
2007-09-30 22:38:00
Former President Bill Clinton and his one-time adversary former House Speaker Newt Gingrich have found something to agree on. They both said Sunday that they view Mike Huckabee as the most likely Republican dark horse candidate for the GOP nomination. ?I think Huckabee is very effective, and if Huckabee can find money, he will be dramatically competitive almost overnight,? Gingrich said. ?He?s probably the best performer in terms of giving speeches and being appealing?? Gingrich, who announced Saturday that he would not seek the presidency in 2008, heaped more praise on Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas. ?I mean, there?s something about him that is just - you just have to like Mike,? Gingrich said on ABC?s ?This Week with George Stephanopoulos,? adding that Huckabee would become ?instantly competitive? if given the funds to succeed. Bill Clinton, who also appeared on the show, said Huckabee is the only GOP ?dark horse that?s got any kind of chance.? Gingrich, who said ...
Gingrich Says He Could Have Been a Contender
2007-09-30 22:33:00
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Sunday he could have been a contender, but has no regrets about skipping the race for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008. Gingrich said he'd had a Web site ready to launch this week and already had received several million dollars in pledges. "I think we would clearly have been competitive financially within three weeks, and we literally had not even set up the Web site yet," he said. "But what hit me was it would have been an underdog campaign. I mean, clearly, if you were going to come from behind, I think it would have been a real campaign. I think we would have had a chance to win." Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler said Saturday that Gingrich opted out of the race, a crowded one with nine candidates, after determining he could not legally explore a bid and stay as head of his tax-exempt political organization. Besides the potential legal difficulties, Gingrich said running would have wasted the effort spent building up Americ...

Gingrich takes step toward '08 run
2007-09-29 08:16:00
It looks like Newt Gingrich has decided to toss his hat in the ring after all. Nevertheless, one has to wonder what his real goal is. People were stymied at how long it took Fred Thompson to formally announce and he had significantly more public support than Gingrich has. I have to wonder if Newt is actually aiming a bit lower and trying to position himself as a good running mate for one of the other candidates. And if so which one? Some months ago he was saying that he would get into the race only if Fred Thompson didn’t. Hmmmm…And now he says he will jump in with both feet if he gets $30 million in the next 3 weeks? Pardon the bad analogy but that’s sounds more like a large dowry more than anything else. I have always liked Newt Gingrich and he is a very intellectual man but as I have said numerous times he is the Republican equivalent to Hillary Clinton with sky high negatives and a personality that you always either love or hate. ~RJH The Politico article link  Gingrich take...

Newt Gingrich, Don't Run
2007-09-27 20:01:00
Today, Newt Gingrich is set to kick off his latest ambitious project. His ?Solutions Day? is aimed at coming up with a ?broad set of nonpartisan solutions? that will move the government ?from the world that fails to the world that works.? This Saturday, over a dozen workshops will be held nationwide to tackle a range of issues, from tax reform and reducing bureaucracy to conservation and space policy. This effort perfectly fits Newt?s reputation for bold thinking and innovative policy ideas. He is less well-suited, however, for the presidential run he continues to flirt with. The tireless former Speaker recently explained that over the next few weeks he will be testing the waters for a presidential bid by seeking commitments from financial backers. He believes that pledges totaling $30 million would show the requisite enthusiasm and resources for a viable campaign. He already has the ideas; to his credit, he has spent the last several years thinking and talking about many of th...
Gingrich: GOP Candidates Making a Mistake by Skipping Black Forum
2007-09-25 21:13:00
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Tuesday that top tier Republican presidential candidates are making a mistake by skipping a forum focused on issues of importance to black voters. Gingrich, in an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America," urged the leading candidates to reconsider their decision not to participate in a forum on Thursday at Baltimore's Morgan State University to be moderated by talk show host Tavis Smiley and aired by PBS. "I'm puzzled by their decision. I can't speak for them. I think it's a mistake. I wish they would change their minds ? they still have a few days ? and I wish they would in fact go to the debate Thursday night," said Gingrich, who is considering entering the race for the GOP nomination. The top four candidates in the GOP race ? former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, Arizona Sen. John McCain and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney ? all declined to participate in the forum citing scheduling conf...
