Gizmodo Crowdsources Psystar Investigation: Miami Company Looks Really Dodg
2008-04-16 21:17:00 Trying to find out if would-be Mac clone maker Psystart in legit or not, Gizmodo readers went to the two addresses identified by the Guardian’s Charles Arthur (see below). As Arthur predicted, one address is a single-story home, and the other address is a warehouse, but it’s home to a completely different company. The Gizmodo reader, Michael, snapped some pictures and talked to the warehouse manager, who has never heard of Psystar. In addition, another Giz reader, Robert, pulled records from Florida’s corporate filing office and found that Psystar’s two principles, Rodolfo and Roberto Pedraza, are officers or agents of “a whole crapload of companies,” according to Giz. Only one of these companies is active: Floridatek. “These guys are obviously clowns,” says Robert.
Saturday Video Roundup: be afraid - be very afraid
2008-03-29 17:10:00 Hi folks, and welcome to SVR’s Halloween in March special. Today we’re going to have a look at things that just scare the bejeezus out of us. First up, Tiny Toons. I was never as big a fan of the series as some of my friends, but it did have its moments. The subtle homomegalomaniacism of Pinky & The Brain, for instance, never ceased making me wonder “how the hell did they get that past the censors?” But as the original Warner toons taught us, the best kids’ shows are really aimed at adults, anyway. The scariest - and funniest, probably - of all Tiny Toons characters was Elmira, the adorable little red-haired girl from Hell. And Elmira just loved animals. Loved them to bits. Our favorite Elmira episode is embedded in this episode, which unfortunately is broken into two parts. The good part starts at the 7:28 mark of the first clip and continues in the second. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bdw9iY8dbfE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6otlhBjwWRE Ne...

Tech Video of the Week: Gizmodo turns CES dark
2008-01-15 19:50:00 With the last couple of weeks of intense CES coverage. I found thisstory to be rather funny. Apparently Gizmodo got a hold of someTV-B-Gone remotes and went around turning off all the television screens as the walked thru CES. Might be childish but still it is funny. Gizmodo Enjoyed The CES Conference A Little Too Much
2008-01-15 04:15:00 The zany people over at Gizmodo went to CES this year and took with them a little IR transmitter that they used to have some fun. They got more than a hand full of the TV monitors to turn off in the middle of presentations and caused quite a bit of havoc. And to top it all off, they took video to capture their attack on CES.

2008-01-14 07:16:00 This year, the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada decided to recognize bloggers by giving some well known blogs access to the show much like they’ve given access to the press for years. CEA to Gizmodo Crew: Gizmo-B-Gone
2008-01-13 01:07:00 By now, you’ve probably heard or read about Gizmodo’s CES crew, who brought a universal IR remote control called TV-B-Gone, and then worked themselves into a giggle-fest by covertly shutting down some devices on the show floor, thereby sabotaging some demos and displays. The Consumer Electronics Association's (CEA) take on them? Banned. In a blog posting at CNET staffer Rafe Needleman posts CEA's official response:"We have been informed of inappropriate behavior on the show floor by a credentialed media attendee from the Web site Gizmodo, owned by Gawker Media. Specifically, the Gizmodo staffer interfered with the exhibitor booth operations of numerous companies, including disrupting at least one press event. The Gizmodo staffer violated the terms of CES media credentials and caused harm to CES exhibitors. This Gizmodo staffer has been identified and will be barred from attending any future CES events. Additional sanctions against Gizmodo and Gawker Media are under discussion."...

Stunt Gets Gizmodo Banned From CES
2008-01-12 22:39:00 There seems to be no end to pranks and jokes being had by folks these days. Humour is a great release as long as it doesn’t go too far. Gizmodo gives the IPhone a "Don't Buy" Rating
2007-09-30 05:05:00 Tired of being pushed around by Apple's greed and ham-fisted approach to locking down its hardware, gadget giant Gizmodo has brought down the hammer by giving the Apple iPhone a (rare) "don't buy" rating. Ouch, that smarts.Gizmodo (which is hardly alone in the new Apple bashing) originally told users to "Wait" on the device for more applications to be included, hoping that a 1.1 firmware update would correct some earlier, obvious defects like the inability to send MMS messages, record videos, make your own ringtones, or use the device for mass storage. But Apple's latest release infamously fixed little of that. Yes, you can purchase ringtones now and access iTunes via Wi-Fi, but Apple also went out of its way to disable all unlocking and customizing that more enterprising users have developed. That's a picture of Gizmodo editor's iPhone just before upgrading it with the latest firmware. Afterwards, it looks just like any other device.Gizmodo's ire on behalf of hardcore gadget ...

Gizmodo spanks self, disowns whores
2007-02-16 19:27:03 Violet Blue should have someone other than the SF Chronicles to battle over biased anti-porn slanting this week. If you're lucky and I need the money, I will. I gave up two years of my life writing about gadgets for this site. Waking up every morning at 5 AM, chewing up press releases to find the rare morsel of legitimate information, chasing down "hot tips" that ended up being photochops of iPods with reflections of genitals in the touchscreens."Taking it from behind the computer screen, Joel puts his finger in our face to smell. Gizmodo Exclusive: Wicked Lasers Spyder II Hands-On Review
2007-02-05 03:17:01 My wife is curious. "So what do you do with it?" "It's a laser." "Right..." "Very powerful, and fits in your hand." "So, you can use it giving presentations and stuff." "Not really. The beam is so bright, you could hurt someone if it reflected into their eye." "So what do you do with it?" "...pop balloons..." I am not a laser expert, unless you count watching Real Genius five times as any sort of real world schooling. Sure, I've done my fair share of field-testing with a magnifying glass and the sun, but tagging a massive green dot on a building from 100 yards away is a different beast entirely. I'm just a simple guy who wanted to hold what may be the most powerful consumer laser in the world - and burn something with it. For those who haven't seen their ads, Wicked Lasers makes very powerful handheld lasers. Their newest model, the Spyder II, is what we're looking at today. It's the biggest, baddest, newest model they have to offer, which justifies the heftier waistline. T...
