Goal Setting ? @EvaRykr Nails It!
2012-01-09 14:45:00
Writing a post about goal setting would probably have made more sense before 2012 kicked off.  But then again, if I had read @EvaRykr?s post before 2012 I?d have better goals myself. But it?s not too late.  You can still rewrite your goals using some of the great info from Eva?s post from January ...
Barca secures top spot in a five goal thriller, AC Milan - 2, Barca -3
2011-11-23 23:10:00
FC Barcelona secured the top spot of Group H in Champions League with a high tempo thrilling 3-2 victory against AC Milan. An own goal from Van Bommel, a penalty from Messi and another beautiful goal from xavi completed Barca's socreline, whereas Ibrahimovic and Boateng scored for AC Milan. In a match which put to practice the Galacticos principle (that is we will outscore you, no matter what), Barca emerged victorious. It was a tough place to test the three man defense but the team pulled out a brilliant win. Barca fans wanted to shore up the defense everytime we took the lead, as we were getting stretched in the defense. But guardiola was throwing attackers after attackers. He was proven right by him team. With this victory Barcelona has secured the top spot. That means we can relax for Bate Borisove visit to Camp Nou on Decen=mber 7th. That should give Guardiola enough chance to rest his major players ahead of the first Clasico on December 11th. Guardiola lined up with Valdes, P...

Annual Incentive Programs Are Bad
2011-11-03 13:18:00
I was reminded by a post from Dr. Bret Simmons the other day that seeing meaningful progress is one of the most important things for maintaining engagement with employees. That made me thing of the ?typical? sales incentive program.  The Dilbert Program Many incentive programs, especially for sales organizations, are designed to reward performance at ...

Payment options on e-commerce sites have indeed come a long way with services like PayPal, Google Checkout and Google Wallet. Competition in this sector is immense and PayPal has also had some issues in India. Unique problems have also cropped up along the way. Threats of e-commerce services being hacked and has let the payment systems to evolve so that the damage during a data theft may be minimized. We recently heard that eBay is all set to show off PayPal access, a service which lets people use their PayPal credentials to make payments on other websites without the need to sign up for an account or credit card information. This service is all set to make its debut later today at the X.Commerce developer’s conference in San Francisco. Controversial Goal Hands Chelsea All Three Points
2011-03-01 23:17:00
Tonight Chelsea came from behind to beat Manchester United 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. Wayne Rooney gave Man United the lead in the first half but two goals from Chelsea fought back in the second half with two goals to win the game. Man United Squad: Starting Line-Up: Van der Sar, O'Shea, Smalling, Vidic, Evra, Fletcher, Carrick, Scholes, Nani, Hernandez and Rooney. Bench: Kuszczak, Brown, Berbatov, Giggs, Fabio Da Silva, Rafael Da Silva and Gibson. The Game: Chelsea got off to a good start, they had the ball in the back of the net within minutes after a corner, Branislav Ivanovic volleyed the ball in but the goal was ruled out because of a foul by David Luiz. Soon after that chance Florent Malouda forced a save out of Edwin Van Der Sar after hitting his strike from 15-yards out. Chelsea then had another two chances within the opening 15 minutes, Michael Essien's shot was deflected wide for a corner, from that corner John Terry's header flew over the bar. Man United sta...

Northwestern shows the power of effective field goal percentage
2011-01-13 22:27:00
Northwestern's win over Iowa last night gives us a lovely little teaching point in the power of advanced statistics. You see, field goal percentage really doesn't tell you much about a game. For instance, in last night's 90-71 victory over the Hawkeyes the Wildcats shot 53.2 percent from the floor. Iowa shot 52 percent. What was the real difference? Two things: Northwestern shot 14-28 from three-point range (compared to 7-17 for Iowa) and the Wildcats attempted 12 more shots (but those extra shots aren't from what you think).Let's look at effective field goal percentage first. Here's the formula: (made field goals + .5*made threes) / (field goal attempted). All it does is add one more variable compared to the standard shooting...

Man United Level With City After Late Controversial Goal
2010-12-28 22:59:00
Birmingham score a later 89th minute equaliser but that isn't enough to stop Man United from going top of the Premier League table. Darron Gibson came in to replace Ji-Sung Park was the only change to the team who beat Sunderland 2-0 on Sunday. Luis Nani missed out after failing to recover from a hip problem. The first effort of the game fell to Birmingham's Cameron Jerome who headed a cross from Craig Gardner over the cross bar. That was followed by three strikes by Wayne Rooney, the first was from 25 yards out but the ball flew just wide of the goal. Four minutes later Rooney's low strike was saved by Ben Foster, the third effort was from around 30 yards out but flew well wide. That was followed by Ryan Giggs drawing a fine finger tip save from former Man United keeper Ben Foster after his miss-hit cross from the right hit the post. A reckless challenge from Lee Bowyer could have seriously hurt Darron Gibson but luckily for the United midfielder, he walked away uninjured. ...

Pappa Wins MLS Goal of the Year

The Fire did manage to win something this season after all.  MLS announced today that Marco Pappa's week 3 bomb against San Jose was voted the AT&T Goal of the Year.  Pappa managed to defy all adds and beat out the ballot stuffing, bot-voting fans in Seattle who only managed to get one goal named into the top five finalists.  Pappa talks about the goal here.  ...
Controversial Goal Finishes Off Spurs
2010-10-30 22:50:00
With both Chelsea and Arsenal scoring late winners and picking up all three points in their respective matches, it was vital that Man United did the same when they played Spurs in the late kick-off. United took the lead through the captain Nemanja Vidic in the 31st minute but the game will be remembered for the second, which came just six minutes before fulltime. Sir Alex Ferguson made three changes to the side that beat Stoke last weekend with Rafael Da Silva, Ji-Sung Park and Michael Carrick all coming into the side, replacing John O?Shea, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes. Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp hinted that Gareth Bale may be on the bench with their Champions League match against Inter Milan midweek in mind. Bale started along with Robbie Keane and Jermaine Jenas, who came in for Peter Crouch and Wilson Palacios. Other than that, it was the same team that drew with Everton the previous weekend. The game got off to a bright start with both teams hitting the post early on...

Marty Turco, A New Style of Goal Tending
2010-10-03 06:37:00
Yes, I am blogging at 11:40 pm on a Saturday night, which pretty much shows you my social life, but I couldn't  help but think of Marty Turco and the Blackhawks goalie situation. My point is simple so this won't be a long blog.  Just want to throw a statement out there, that I'm sure many have recognized. Marty Turco has a completely different style of goaltending then what us Hawk fans are used to. We are used to Niemi No-Nos and Huet's inconsistency, but it's Turco who is going to give us a show that we have never seen before. Turco likes to play the puck and keep the action alive.  He's not just going to put the glove...

Landon Donovan's Goal Leads U.S. to Knockout Round
2010-06-24 05:09:00
Talk about style - these guys on the American soccer team have the amazing confidence, talent, and strength to go all the way. I just would love to dress a few of the team members and do a commercial for them! Landon Donovan and the other star players who helped bring America to Wednesday's big win over Algeria are headed to round 16 in the World Cup, a huge feat in this global tournament. I know that screams and shouts of American pride rang through bars and even offices today in response to the dramatic, game-changing goal, scored in the last seconds. If that's not style, I don't know what is! The true spirit of the game and fans' loyalty really...
Kane OT goal wins Blackhawks Stanley Cup
2010-06-10 06:41:00
Patrick Kane sped past Kimmo Timonen down the left side of the zone sending a shot skidding across the ice surface and through Flyers goalie Michael Leighton's legs as he hugged the near post for a Blackhawks overtime Stanley Cup game winner.  For a few moments, only Kane knew he had ended Chicago's 49-year championship drought.  But soon enough, his teammates joined the Hawks 21-year old foward in a jubilant celebration in front of the hushed Philadelphia crowd as the puck was located in the meshing of the net behind Leighton. The Hawks 4-3 overtime victory over the Philadelhpia Flyers clinched the 4th Stanley Cup in the history of the Original Six franchise.  My personal wait to see...
One game, one goal. Hawks are playing it cool.
2010-06-10 01:03:00
To reach their goal Wednesday, the Blackhawks will have to win on enemy ice in Philly, where they lost games 3 and 4 last week. That's a bad sign. On the other hand, the Hawks have had quite a bit of success on Game 6s the past two seasons. This photo is from May 11, 2010, Game 6 at Vancouver. At stake: a trip to the Western Conference finals. Result: Blackhawks 5, Canucks 1. Blackhawks win series 4-2.By Brian MooreRedEyeWednesday's Blackhawks game just might be the franchise's most important since the team won the Stanley Cup in 1961.Game 6, in Philadelphia, one game away from hoisting Lord Stanley's Cup and cementing a place in Chicago sports history. It's enough to make...
Two Teams...One Goal

Rooney And Ferdinand Play For England As Own Goal Steals The Show
2010-05-30 16:41:00
Own goal played a massive part for Man United last season; it also played a big part in England's final friendly game ahead of the World Cup against Japan. Both Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney started for England with Michael Carrick playing no part in the game. Japan took an early lead through Marcus Tulio Tanaka after some poor defending by England from a corner. England?s first descent chance came after Rooney found himself in some space in the Japanese half. He fed the ball to Tottenham's Aaron Lennon down the left, who should have done better. Rooney had a very frustrating, sloppy first half, like most of the England team. Saying that he was trying to get England back into the game. Ferdinand didn't have a bad game but he did have a bit of scare 19 minutes in. After a nudge, he miss kicked the ball but fortunately for the away side, the shot from the miss kick was well over the bar. He was also involved in one of England's better chances in the first half after his brilli...
my goal for the soldier field 10 mile...
2010-05-25 14:50:00
After posting yesterday I emailed Coach Jen to talk about a goal for the Soldier Field 10 Mile on Saturday.  I asked Coach Jen what she thought, she in turn replied and asked what I thought my stretch goal was, or my BHAG (big hairy audacious goal) as I like to call it.I thought about it for a few minutes and replied...an 11:00 pace, faster than any of my training runs and faster than my Shamrock Shuffle pace.  That'd put my goal at 1:50:00.  Coach Jen did say that if we have heat and humidity like Sunday and yesterday we'd revisit, but as it stands now...that's the goal....
Marathon man Keith needs one goal (and a few pluses) for Blackhawks to win
2010-04-17 17:07:00
Duncan Keith was the Blackhawks' second leading scorer during the regular season, but has never scored a postseason goal in the NHL. Does that compute to feeling confident that this postseason is far from over and the hounds of hell will be unleashed for Game 2 Sunday night? In 18 playoff games, the Norris Trophy-contending defenseman has six assists and is a very mediocre minus-2. He was minus-3 in Friday night's 4-1 loss to Nashville, but he spent just over 29 minutes on the ice, so when bad things happen good chance he will be somewhere nearby and it's not always going to be his fault. And yet, innocent bystander that he may sometimes be, he is going to get blamed until...

Quenneville turns to Niemi in goal
2010-03-09 19:51:00
According to the official Blackhawks Twitter account, Joel Quenneville has stated that Antti Niemi will be his starting goaltender on Wednesday night at home vs. the Los Angeles Kings. Does this mean Niemi has another shot to take the #1 job? Is it simply a break for Huet heading into a weekend that includes back to back games? The fact is, time is running out on the Hawks to make their selection. At some point, they need to decide who "the guy" is, and play him the rest of the way.Last season, the Hawks picked Nikolai Khabibulin as their playoff goaltender, and played him for roughly the final 10 games of the regular season. This year, it would be ideal for them...

Huet should survive Turco trade rumors to Blackhawks and stay in goal
2010-02-10 21:28:00
The rumors, true or not, are bound to start circulating now about the possibility of the Blackhawks looking into a trade for Stars goalie Marty Turco, the guy they beat Tuesday night 4-3 in a shootout. In fact, it was mentioned on ESPN.com in a blog posting Wednesday between reporters Pierre LeBrun and Scott Burnside. Turco surely looks expendable in Dallas after GM Joe Nieuwendyk acquired goalie Kari Lehtonen from Atlanta Tuesday in a trade. But would Turco be an upgrade over Cristobal Huet? I don't see how....
Chicago Wolves fall in shootout after coming back from two goal deficit aga
2010-01-31 23:25:00
The Hamilton Bulldogs took a two goal lead, but saw the Chicago Wolves tie the game, sending it to a shootout. The top team of the Western Conference held the Wolves to just one goal in the shootout for the win over the largest crowd this season at the All-State, 15,532. The attendance is the largest since April 11, 2009 when the Wolves hosted their final game of the season against the Rockford IceHogs. The attendance trend indicates the Wolves could have a very good year, despite the report by USAToday that minor league hockey teams have lost attendance. Seven of the top ten home crowds in the previous season came after January 1st. The Wolves have an average crowd...
New Year, New Goal, New Me
2010-01-27 03:55:00
2009 had gone by, I welcomed 2010 in our office, working on graveyard away from my love ones. But it’s not a big deal for me, new year is like any other ordinary day for me. And it was fun welcoming 2010 while working. Plenty of food, shouting and yelling, smiles all around you, red dresses, red shirts dominating the work place, you know, Filipino tradition things and all. Since it’s a new year for me, I’m setting myself some new goals for a better me. First, I would like to lose weight. Yes, I have lost weight in 2009 alone. From 220 lbs. down to 195 lbs and still counting. That’s already a big achievement for me since I’ve never lost weight that much in my whole life. Secondly, I wanna look good, together with my on-going of loosing weight, I work out. I’m following some routines to make my body lean. I’m picturing out my ideal body every day to encourage myself on my goal. And lastly, I want to discover my new me, discover things I’...
IceHogs Win with Last Second OT Goal
2010-01-07 22:54:00
IceHogs' Captain Jake Dowell tapped in the game winner in overtime last night, with one second to go on the clock, lifting the IceHogs over the Toronto Marlies 4-3 Wednesday night. The game was a mid-week snoozer, dosed with sloppy passes and listless playing. It only got exciting once the game went into overtime with the score tied at 3 each. Referee Francis Charron seemed to catch a nap, calling just four minor infractions for the entire game. Oddly enough, those infractions were divided evenly between Rockford's Jassen Cullimore and Toronto's Ashton Rome. Even with both teams playing their enforcers, Ryan Flinn for Rockford and Brennan Evans for Toronto, not one single fight broke out. But a win is a win. The...

Chicago Wolves drop 2 goal lead in back and forth loss
2009-12-07 03:53:00
The Chicago Wolves dropped a two goal lead in a televised game against the league leading Texas Stars Saturday. It was a back and forth effort that saw the Wolves climb into the lead to lose it twice, and eventually drop the game.It happened earlier in November in a game against the Grand Rapids Griffins, too: taking an early lead only to lose steam compared to the opposition.Lots of good news in a game that was a downer. Good action, particularly in the first period, by the Wolves put a lot of pressure on the Stars. The Stars were held off during eight power plays, matching the team's season high freeze of the San Antonio Rampage. And the power play...

Seabrook OT goal caps Blackhawks comeback win
2009-11-16 05:32:00
Brent Seabrook capped a great comeback with a goal 41 seconds into overtime lifting the Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-3 win over the visiting San Jose Sharks.  The Hawks faced a two goal deficit in the second period against the Western Conference leading Sharks that they erased with three unanswered tallies to win for the seventh consecutive time on home ice.  The overtime loss extended San Jose's streak to twelve games with at least one point.   It was the hard work of Hawks' captain Jonathan Toews that led to the gamewinner.  While on the forecheck, Toews forced a turnover behind the Sharks' goal and fed a streaking Seabrook with a nice feed that the defenseman buried past...
Findley's Late Goal puts RSL past Columbus
2009-11-01 03:23:00
Real Salt Lake got a late goal from striker Robbie Findley to defeat Columbus 1-0 in the opening game of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series Saturday night. The match looked to be headed to a scoreless draw, but that all changed in the 88th minute when Findley slotted home a Yura Movsisyan cross to give RSL the win. Salt Lake's victory puts all the pressure on the 1st seeded Crew, who need a win in Thursday night's Game 2 -- which will be played at Columbus -- to have a chance at advancing to the Eastern Conference final against either the Fire or New England....

Huet in goal spells doom for Blackhawks
2009-10-18 18:00:00
Hurry, the Cristobal Huet costumes are going fast at your local Halloween store.  Nothing will frighten a Blackhawks fan more than the sight of number 39 standing on their doorstep.  I recommend pennies instead of candy to the masked man in the Blackhawks sweater. It would be nice to focus on something else other than Huet and his play in net.  The positives from Saturday night's 4-3 loss to the Dallas Stars would include Jonathan Toews, Troy Brouwer and Niklas Hjalmarsson all notching their first goals of the season.  The Blackhawks dominated play for stretches, including the entire first period.  They also displayed great effort all the way to the final horn ending the game. Aside from Huet, other concerns...
