Hey Sucker, We've Got Your China Trademark And Your're Goin'
2009-07-08 12:51:00
Over the last six months or so, my firm's work for Chinese companies going international has zoomed, and with that, my knowledge of how Chinese companies "handle" foreign companies has zoomed as well. One of the things I have learned is that Chinese companies understand the value of trademarks -- YOUR trademark. Let me explain. I am going to have to be very vague here so as to avoid revealing any confidential information, but I can be specific enough so you can get the gist. Two stories: 1. Chinese company manufactures product for US company. Product ships from China with US company name on it and US company distributes it throughout North America. China company also sells its product in North America under its own brand name. US company is trying to get Chinese company to lower its prices and Chinese company is balking. US company is talking of finding another manufacturer. Chinese company tells me that people in China "very friendly" to them registered the US compa...

What's Goin' On?
2009-01-14 17:32:00
I may be MIA from my blog here, but I'm not lazing around off screen. I'm working on some posts for this blog and work and A Thousand Soups as well as being interviewed for a local paper. With the economy in a bind, I've decided to start sharing how we eat here for about $150 a week. It's nothing fabulous, but worth sharing. After all, I began this blog with the idea that I would journal our family recipes so the kids would have something to look back on. Our normal every day food isn't all gourmet, just like any large family, and I'd like to share a little more of that.I won't pass completely on fabulous culinary creations, but the general gist needs to be toned down a little in light of the fact that we aren't well-to-do.So, if you want to stick around for some good old 'normal' food, please do so and know that I'll have posts up really soon.

12/09/08 - In My Mind I'm Goin' to Carolina

The Carolina Panthers running backs, Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams, made the Bucs of Tampa look silly last night and I have to think the Panthers will be in the Giants future.

When you listen to as much music as I do, and get as little work done as I do, then you start to notice little things about that music. Little things like how some songs seem to be more or less carbon copies of other songs.Like, say "Sound," by James (song 45)And "The Stairs" by INXS (#46):Then again, if INXS was ripped off by James, they can't really complain, because they made "Mediate," (song 47)Long after Bob Dylan made "Subterranean Homesick Blues" (Song 48!)So here's what I have to say about all of THAT:First, I didn't even know they HAD videos in the 1960s. I'm amazed they had pictures in the 1960s, let alone pictures that moved.Second, it's 5:09 on Friday and I'm goin' home.Down... to go. It just keeps getting better, doesn't it? It does, right? Song 44 is here.

Enlace a este video en YouTube:ás información:I'm not there (IMBD)I'm not there (Wikipedia - EN)I'm not there (soundtrack) (Wikipedia - EN)

Whole Lotta Trotta Goin' On
2008-05-27 13:51:00
Liz Trotta used to be a sharp reporter in the 1960s and 1970s but she's gotten a little dotty in her old age. The Fox News anti-Hillary talking head shoud've kept her yap shut when she blabbed "Osama" instead of "Obama" in yet another deconstruction of Hillary's Obama assassination creative visualization. Maybe it was a Secret Message to Hillary henchmen to Carry Out The Deed. When corrected Miz Liz joked maybe both Os should be "knocked off." TV Newser Johnny Dollar's Place video She later apologized...Me thinks the liberal pro-Obama Huff Post doth protest too much. Same for a wacko Daily Kos frothing fool showing how dumb and delusional he is here. The gaffe simply gave the liberal media and bloggers another excuse to hammer Fox News to deflect from Hillary's repeated Obama threat and burgeoning criticism of Keith Olbermann's crazy nightly anti-Fox rants.
'American Idol' Producers Reportedly Ban David Archuleta's Father From Goin
2008-05-12 17:02:00
Jeff Archuleta's insistence on lyric changes for last Tuesday's performance may have been the last straw.By Gil Kaufman Jeff Archuleta, Lupe Archuleta and "American Idol" finalist David Archuleta Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images After months of stories about his allegedly heavy hand in directing his son's budding music career, "American Idol" finalist David Archuleta's father, Jeff Archuleta, has been banned from show rehearsals and from being backstage, according to The Associated Press. Jeff Archuleta — who recently told Us Magazine that he is not the domineering stage dad people seem to think he is — was told last week by "Idol" producers that he can no longer join David, 17, as he prepares for the show. An unnamed source told the AP that Archuleta's intense backstage involvement with his son's song choices and arrangements had become a source of concern for the series. The final straw appeared to be a lyric change Archuleta reportedly insisted on...

Goin' Back To Denver
2008-04-28 17:21:00
So I took Sunday off to rest and forget about the Avalanche for a day, a recuperative break that was very much needed after their pathetic showing on Saturday afternoon. I enjoyed watching the Penguins beat the Rangers 2-0, and enjoyed the almost-constant debate about whether or not Sidney Crosby is, in fact, a diver.  And then watching Chris Drury take an obvious dive on a weak holding call was icing on the cake.  Nobody even mentioned what was so clear on the screen: he dropped to the ice for no reason other than to secure a power play for his team.  And you know what?  It was the right move, because his team wasn't getting the chances they needed and another power play was better than nothing.  Is Chris Drury a bad hockey player?  No, he's a great hockey player, and his dive was strategically very smart, if ultimately futile.  If you believe a hockey game is as much a chess match as a battle of will and honor, then you probably agree with me....

Remy Ma Goin' To Jail
2008-03-27 18:03:00
Remy Ma Found Guilty In Shooting Of Friend, Faces Up To 25 Years In JailBy Jayson RodriguezRemy Ma was found guilty on two charges of assault Thursday (March 27) in Manhattan Supreme Court. She faces up to 25 years if convicted on both counts. The rapper, 26, wiped away tears as the verdict was read, then "wailed loudly and sobbed openly" as she left the courtroom in handcuffs, according to The Associated Press. The charges stem from an incident that occurred last July when the rapper and Makeda Barnes-Joseph argued after leaving a mutual acquaintance's birthday party. Remy Ma alleged Barnes-Joseph stole several thousand dollars from her purse that night; Barnes-Joseph was shot after the two struggled in her car. Remy Ma fled the scene in an SUV but crashed nearby. Neither the money nor the weapon have been found. Charges of tampering and gang assault, related to the case, were thrown out, the rapper's attorney, Ivan Fisher, told MTV News on Thursday. Sentencing for the case is sc...

Goin' loco
2008-03-02 17:57:00
Tomorrow marks the start of two new modules, one of which is supposedly the hardest element of the first year. Welcome to ‘brain and behaviour’ and ‘locomotion’. I’ve heard dreadful, awful things about B+B, alas, I am actually looking forwards to it. In biomed, neuroscience was one of my favourite topics we covered. As for locomotor, the dissection SSM I’ve just done should prove extremely useful. Of course, returning to the usual daily grind makes for an unwelcome return of PBL.I went to one of the best union nights so far last Friday – live bands night. Both cheap and relaxed, I really enjoyed watching students putting on a good show, the appreciation and unity of the crowd was electric. I’m definitely going to guitar soc this week, I’ve been meaning to for a long while but kept putting it off for various reasons.Last night I went to central London for an awesome meal in a Lebanese restaurant. It was of course, hideously expensive – the only thing that put a do...

Of course, when I say Going Ape, I also mean monkeys, too. And lemurs. And of course, apes. The old saying goes that if you get a million monkeys typing, eventually one will produce the works of Shakespeare. The Blogosphere has proved that you can get 100 million monkeys typing, and still nothing of that quality. Speaking of which...  The Bloggie nominees have been announced. Somehow, I missed the nomination period, so didn’t get the change to urge everyone to nominate my blogroll like I did last year. The result is that the only blogger I “know” in the running is Saskboy from Abandoned Stuff, who was nominated for Best Candian Blog. Go to the site and give him your vote! There are plenty of other categories you can vote in, too. Riverdance Monkeys (via the Presurfer) Apes got talent! Expenses Involved In Going Back To School Posted By : Jim Brown

Parents might have to scrimp on summer vacation plans because they know that there will be a lot of expenses involved in their children going back to school. Many graduates think that the six months they have before the required scheduled repayment of their various college debts seems like forever. The six months is nothing compared to the years and years of payments ahead of you. A consolidation of student loans can make the monthly much less painful. Read more about finance and student loans.

Whole lot of diversity goin' on
2008-01-05 01:08:00
Universities today are full of people who not only embrace diversity but who also talk a lot (endlessly?) about their zeal for social inclusion, their desire for a more democratic culture and a bigger public sphere. Often, they also decry the fact that "social capital" is eroding and the bonds of community are loosening. These people ought to get out more often, or at least away from the university, perhaps by attending a diverse, inclusive, democratic event in the "squared circle," if not the public sphere. That is to say, they should take in an event like "RAW LIVE" presented by the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment to the uninitiated)...I mean, you've gotta love the way a snobbish aristocratic "heel" (albeit a massive one) such as Hunter Hearst Helmsley could be transformed into the monstrous and (now) monstrously popular "face" known as Triple H...More?source:

Sub-prime Fallout: Why Things are Going to Get Even Worse
2008-01-04 23:12:00
The recent sub-prime crisis is unlike any faced by the financial system before in one dubious distinction: Its effects are exacerbated by globalization to an unprecedented degree. Recent developments help illustrate exactly how this credit crunch can be differentiated from others, such as the savings and loan scandals of the 1980's, by its fundamentally larger scale and complexity. To explain the sub-prime crisis adequately, first the causes must be clearly identified. Like the savings and loan problems, predatory lending on the part of real estate brokers and agents, combined with a fair amount of financial fan-dangling, many banks loaned out more money than they normally were allowed to. By keeping these loans off their balance sheets, they were able to loan out much more than the rule-of-thumb ten times their deposits. If you consider that the sub-prime fallout is considered by most to be over $250 billion dollars, then the loans made could be in the trillions. The vehicles in w...
Oakland going full force into a Youth Movement
2008-01-04 19:56:00
San Francisco Chronicle reporter Susan Susser takes a look at the Oakland A's the youth movement direction they will be going in under GM Billy Beane. Beane has already traded Dan Haren and Nick Swisher, no one seems to believe that he's done."We're going with the youth movement, baby. At least Billy is committed to it. He's not half-assing it.""When Billy does something," center fielder Mark Kotsay said, "he goes full force."Now that Beane has started the ball rolling he might be more easy to deal with and since he's already gotten pretty good bounties from Haren and Swisher he might not be as demanding. Could Blanton, Harden and Street be the next to go.......Beane probably isn't done dealing. Starter Joe Blanton, Swisher's fellow "Moneyball" draft pick, is likely to be moved by midseason at the latest, and several others could fall into that category. Even Chavez, the longest-tenured A's player, doesn't feel immune. source SFgate.comTrade Rich Harden. Since he has a reas...
