Turning Towards Change Or Going Round In Circle?
2007-11-27 00:00:00
Here’s some food for thought this coming holiday; the recruitment industry is inefficient, it is fundamentally flawed and cannot cope with the complexities of the current labour market. And if that weren’t enough, our consummation with the being first in the war for talent has blinkers us from a potential available workforce of approximately one ...

Too often today I see many musicians/magazines/web sites telling you about some amazing new piece of software or hardware thats going to magically make you into this amazing producer/sound engineer with this amazing new sound it can produce. Basically adverts trying to sell you equipment and I think a lot of musicians fall for this ...

2007-11-26 17:51:00
Hey there folks! I’d like to sound officious and high nosed by telling you an “executive decision” has been made by the “Grand Council of Saints of Towelianism”, to change and evolve this blog. But sadly, no such executive decision has been made. I’m acting on my own accord since I’ve been working hard on this blog ...

Oil on Gessoed Hardboard (Masonite)6" high x 6" wide Click here to bidThere was something about the water I didn't like on the previous version of this painting (see below) so I decided to go to sleep and see if in the morning I was feeling the same way. Fair enough, I didn't like it either when I woke up, so I worked on it a little more. The water on the first one looked too calm, somehow I changed the way the ocean looked as I was focusing more on the wave that was breaking out in front of the girl and forgot about the other waves that were behind, plus the water on my picture reference looked more greenish not grayish, so I changed the tone of the water aswell. Sometimes is a matter of just stepping away from the painting long enough to see what was wrong with it that we didn't quite like in the first place.Questions? Comments? Going Crackers!!!
2007-11-26 01:34:00
Rimagine, the studio, has been keeping me quite busy, sending me all over this lovely country (still in China!). I spent the last week in Tianjin, Beijing and Nanjing and I’ll be going back to Beijing this week and off to Macau at then end of it. This lovely photo from the archive seems to fit my present mood with a nice pun: ‘I’m going crackers’ – not the other pun which might indicate I’m a Mason, which I’m not(!!), by the shapes of the cracker and cheese. I originally did this for a weekly challenge at Digital Photography Challenge under the theme of “shapes”. Photographer: Philippe Roy Food Styling: Philippe Roy
"I love you, but I'm going to mace you in the face!"
2007-11-25 22:47:00
This one has got a heart. Hard to pinpoint, perhaps, but it's in there - the three brothers played by Wes Anderson regulars Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartzman and new guy Adrian Brody are looking for it too. Coming from a typically Andersonian broken home, they are on a quest to rescue their mother from a convent in the Himalayas. Wes Anderson has acquired a reputation of being a stark technician, a Kubrickian perfectionist aloofly observing his dysfunctional subjects and chronicling the minutiae of their circumstances. But this is not quite accurate. His has a sincere empathy for the very real emotions felt by this most privileged of demographic sectors. The passion is there in the detail. The nerdy obsessiveness and outrageous whimsy are the articulation of his affection for these broken American children. His characters are moneyed, educated WASPS, yet suffer the bleak, empty melancholy only these advantages bring. Anderson's camera never mocks or belittles them - we ar...

Is your Office going LIVE?
2007-11-24 13:40:00
You must have already read about this. Sabeer Bhatia, of Hotmail fame(which he sold to Micro$oft for 400 million USD), formed a new company called InstaColl and joined hands with ThinkFree,Google,Yahoo,LinkedIn- and Adobe to rival with the Market Giant in Office Software Suites-Microsoft themselves. It is called Live Documents (quite ironic though, as MS has been carrying on with the Live thing. Will they end up buying this too?)The link is here for you to check it out.Although, the website doesn't satisfy at all, as in no tours about the products and no screenshots. It is too much text, text, text. It's invite only as of now, which I ended up requesting. So what does it offer actually, or what is it about. I'll leave you with the desrciption from the official website. Live Documents is a full-featured suite of online Office productivity applications offering functionality equivalent to Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Built using RIA technologies such as Flash and Flex, Live Document...

What's Going On With Electric Vehicles
2007-11-24 01:26:00
Here is a little insight as to what the real story is with Electric Vehicle Technology. Back in the late eighties, Honda with Panasonic, developed the Nickel Metal Hydride Battery for Electric Vehicles. The batteries gave the vehicle, for the average driver, a range of about 120 miles per charge. Careful drivers got up to 180 miles per charge. In 1994, General Motors bought control of the battery production. They did not put these batteries into their Electric Vehicle, The EV1 (1996-99). Instead, they installed the inferior Delco lead acid batteries. The range of the GM-EV1 was drastically reduced and GM declared that the Electric Vehicle Experiment was a faliure. You may recall that G,M. never offered the EV1 for sale. It was only available as a leased vehicle. In fact, none of seven the biggest auto manufacturers have ever brought an EV to the market for sale to the public. In any case, G.M. then sold the rights to the Nickel Metal Hydride Battery to, none other than, Texaco Oil. ...

Is Cerberus going to take Chrysler down with it?
2007-11-23 23:32:00
It seems that the private equity firm Cerberus, which bought Chrysler from Daimler-Benz and installed new management to turn around the automaker’s finances, is itself in financial trouble. Or, at least, it’s not all roses for the finance speculators.   First, it seems that the first wave of Chrysler bond sales by Cerberus’s bankers has completely and utterly failed.   When the Cerberus deal to purchase Chrysler closed, the investment bankers financing the deal had to swallow $12 billion in Chrysler bonds that they were unable to sell. Investment bankers make money on these deals by committing the money to buy the bonds, with the expectation that they will resell them to investors at a profit. But, the bankers were able to unload only about half of the debt used to finance the purchase. The rest they had to keep, in the hope that they’d be able to retail it later.   Later came last week. The bankers offered $4 billion o...
What is going ON with the market?
2007-11-23 23:27:00
Okay - that's kind of a rhetorical question. This real estate market is definitely one of the most challenging ones we've had in years, if not decades. I know there are some old-timers out there who'll happily tell you about how rough things were when interest rates were floating around 15-18% back in the late 70's and early 80's, but I think this market has some unique challenges that that one didn't. Yes, interest rates were high - but back then everyone was used to interest rates being high -- and so prepared for them. Now interest rates are really low -- hovering just over 6% at this writing. So if interest isn't the reason for things being either bad or good -- what is? The answer is all in the numbers. And by that, I mean the large number of things that all have to happen at once to create a market like this one. Part of the problem is the roller-coaster effect of the market. Over just a few short years, things were WAY up before comeing ...
if you're going to sing the croatian national anthem.....
2007-11-23 19:33:00
make sure you get the words right, a lot can be lost in translation!Opera singing Brit Tony Henry has become a Croatian hero for mispronouncing a line in the country's national anthem before its team consigned a lamentable England to the dustbin of footballing history on Wednesday night. The ditty is "written in the old Croat style", the Telegraph explains, and instead of singing Mila kuda si planina - "You know my dear how we love your mountains" - Henry thundered Mila kura si planina, or "My dear, my penis is a mountain".This evidently delighted Croatian players Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric, who were seen "grinning at each other" at the gaffe, and fans claim the slip helped relax the team before its 3-2 drubbing of McClaren's lacklustre side.

slow going
2007-11-23 14:48:00
It's 8:48am right now. I've been at work for an hour - available for calls for 48 minutes - and I've had one call. That's it. Wouldn't it be lovely if the whole day was this way? I could handle one call per hour. That would make being here on the best shopping day of the year worth it. I don't really have much shopping left to do so I probably wouldn't be out today anyway, but I'd still like to be anywhere except here today. Why are some companies like this? The rest of the world - other than retail - are off today. I don't work in retail therefore I shouldn't be at work today. Wouldn't it be great if they started sending people home early? I would jump for the opportunity to leave early today. Ooh, my tummy hurts. I think the turkey wants out. Maybe if I spend half the day in the bathroom they'll send me home. *grin*
No, I?m not going shopping today?
2007-11-23 14:00:00
It is the day after Thanksgiving, in the United States of America.  Traditionally, this is known as “Black Friday”–that is because throngs of Christmas shoppers crowd the malls and put the retail merchants “back in the black.”  Like Paul Potts, though, I am not going to let all of the commercialism get to me.  I ...

Spice Girls comeback isn't going to plan
2007-11-22 18:48:00
The Spice Girls comeback is going to plan. Their comeback single "Headlines" has got awful reviews and isn't doing to well in the charts. Headlines ic currently at no.10 in the midweek charts which is worse than expected. Headlines has also failed to make it onto Radio 1s A List playlist. Instead its on C List which means it only gets played on average once a day. Now, demand for concert tickets is on the wane after an initial wave of enthusiasm from fans. When tickets for the Spice Girls' comeback tour originally went on sale, they sold out really quickly. The first London date of 'The Return of the Spice Girls' World Tour', which is 16 December, sold out in just 38 seconds. This prompted organisers to add 16 more dates to the tour at the 23,000 capacity O2 Arena in London and two at Manchester's MEN Arena. Tickets began to be snapped up by fans and internet touts who wanted to sell them on and make a quick buck. However, this appears to have backfired as those who sn...

Beyonce is going country
2007-11-22 14:15:00
Beyonce is going country for her next album. Beyonce has decided she wants her next album to feature just country and western songs. Beyonce has enlisted the help of song writer Amanda Ghost who wrote James Blunts very annoying smash hit single "Your Beautiful"Beyonce performed a country version of "Irreplaceable" the other night at the American Music Awards which went down very well and this has given her the confidence to do a country album.A source said “Beyonce wants to try something completely different. She’s a fan of country music and thought that would be an interesting and exciting way to go. " “She tested the water at the American Music Awards and she is up for it. She contacted Amanda early this week and she is going over to work with her on it.”- Beyonce should stick to R&B that's what she's best at. I can't see Beyonce doing country music somehow. I don't think a country album will do well in the charts maybe in the US but its not going to be a worldw...
