Cafe Opera, Gold Coast
2008-02-03 05:37:00
What was supposed to be an outing to Movie World turned out to be a shopping trip to Harbour Town! It was pouring almost the whole drive to Movie World and if we had paid the entrance fee, it would have been a waste so we decided to drive a bit further to check out Harbour Town - outlet shopping! There seemed to be a lot of shops and a lot of nice things but the price is not always right after the exchange. We did get some good deals like nice t-shirts for AUD9.99!We did have a great lunch though. There were no shortage of restaurants, cafe and fast food outlets and we were really undecided. Somehow I had a craving for fish and chips so we sat down at Cafe Opera. The fish of the day was barramundi and I ordered mine grilled. It was excellent with a lemon cream sauce. The ice coffee was also a pick me up. It was nice with a lot of whipped cream. It was a good meal after a few hours of shopping. In the end, Movie World was forgotten and it turned out to be a fruitful day out - bargain s...

WhiteWater World, Gold Coast
2008-01-27 15:09:00
We had a splashing day at WhiteWater World today. It took us only about 40 mins to drive from Brisbane to Gold Coast. Ling and Mike ended up purchasing a 2 year pass to both Dreamworld and also WhiteWater World since they would be here for the next 3 years. We bought a day pass to the water park.I was getting quite excited because the park was well designed and most of the rides were close to each other. From the map that was given when your ticket was purchased, you can get all the information you need to navigate the water park. They also designed it well with lots of sails and shades so that you don't fry out there on a hot day.It was rather hot today but very breezy. There were some cloudy moments which made it really cold especially when you are wet and waiting on the high steps for a ride. All of us were shivering! The queue was sometimes a pain. It took so long to get your turn and the splashing fun only lasted about 20 seconds! Still it was great. It was like a wet roller co...

Doreen Vitue Conference on Gold Coast
2007-11-05 04:36:00
Angel awareness and angel intuition is something we all have inside ourselves. Participating in Doreen Virtue's 2007 Angel Intuitive Conference on the Gold Coast shows me why 800 Lightworkers come together for teaching and to exchange ideas and experiences. Have you ever wondered whether you may be psychic or whether alternative healing appeals to you? Perhaps you've never heard the word "Lightworker" before, or wonder how it relates to angels. Choose to explore options.Lightworkers assist people to connect with angels. They encourage as they also help themselves.  You might explore angel medicine and healing techniques that can apply to wherever you are, whatever you do.  You might ask yourself who is psychic and why people are drawn to become healers and soul seekers on different levels.  Why work with angels? Why assume they could help you at all? From the moment you believe in yourself, you discover you exert power.  What ...

Gold Coast
2007-10-31 15:03:00
The Gold Coast is located on the Eastern seaboard of Australia just 80km south of the City of Brisbane. Gold Coast is widely acknowledged as Australia's premier holiday destination where you can enjoy its wealth of attraction from a relaxing retreat or an action packed family holiday at the theme parks or other action stations. There is a lot of interesting place to visit i.e Seaworld. The much anticipated Sea World Eye, is now open. The structure sits an impressive 60 metres high over Sea World and offers sweeping views of the scenic Gold Coast area, including unparalleled views across the Broadwater.Gold Coast Accomodation is cheap if you know where to look but if you prefer to stay in style, the choose Palazzo Versace, the world's only Versace Hotel. But I think, Hotels in Brisbane is much cheaper than in Gold coast but the traveling time can be a factor. Brisbane Accomodation may be cheap, but 80km is a long way. With AirAsia flying to Gold Coast, it is even cheaper to go there ...

Touring the Cities of Brisbane and Gold Coast
2007-10-29 18:37:00
Well, after writing about England, I got into checking out some other places of interest. Let us now focus on a nearby country to Malaysia, namely Brisbane and the Gold Coast of Australia. Ah, to make sure that accommodations are taken care of, there is always the reliable guide online at Hotels in Brisbane. Brisbane is the third largest city in Australia and it is situated in the eastern part of Australia. It is also the capital and most populous of state of Queensland. The city got its name in honour of the British astronomer and administrator Thomas Brisbane, who was Governor of New South Wales from 1821 – 1825. In recent times, Brisbane has enjoyed being host to the 1982 Commonwealth Games, the 1988 World's Fair (Expo '88), and the 2001 Goodwill Games. A new airport and many new buildings were constructed in preparation for the fair. So never fear of any lack of Brisbane Accommodation. So let us get to the meaty stuff now. What are some interesting places to visit and activit...

Tech.Ed 2007 Gold Coast Day 3
2007-08-13 12:12:00
The third and final day of the conference was more of a wind-down, but still had tons to see and do. I caught the last bit of the first session on Rules Engine Use in Windows Workflow and then made my way to the seminar on Best Practices for Team Based Software Development. This was mostly about how Team Foundation Server can help organize the common artefacts and work habits of a development team. The speaker, Anthony Borton, covered the signs of a great team and mistakes that teams can make as well. He then displayed a chart of various stages of the Team Development Maturity Model he had developed with a teammate of his. The stages were: Chaos Shared - standard location for team documents and not much else Tracked - use of standard forms and code Defined - improving level of automation for common tasks Instrumented - stabilized metrics and repeatability Optimized - continual process improvements, tool refactoring, ever-increasing automation I think ...
Tech.Ed 2007 Gold Coast Day 2
2007-08-12 12:15:00
Day 2 was a full one. Software + Services and Web 2.0 in the Enterprise were two seminars given by Michael Platt but again I won't report on these since I'm going to blog about all the Web 2.0 stuff in detail later this week. Enterprise Library 3.1 was given by Tom Hollander, who has left Patterns and Practices Group and moved back to Sydney. He stated the goals of 3.x were to: Address developer feedback; Provide new blocks to address standard issues, such as Validation and seperating policy from business rules; Support integration with the new features in the .NET 3.0 framework; Simplify development of new application blocks; Retain backwards compatibility with EntLib 2.0 He demonstrated the major new blocks, showing how easy it is to create validation rules programmatically, using attributes, or via configuration files. The validation block allows developers to specify the rules once and have them apply everywhere - in the presentation layer as well as throughout the other ...
Tech.Ed 2007 Gold Coast Day 1
2007-08-11 04:26:00
So Tech.Ed 2007 came and went on the sunny Gold Coast and over the next few days I'm going to be sleeping and blogging (not necessarily at the same time). Here's my recap of the first day: The keynote speech was given by Michael Twigg, the Production Resource Manager of AnimalLogic, an Australian animation firm that makes special effects for movies, TV, and commercials. Some of their achievements include effects work for the Matrix (the ghost twins), 300, and Happy Feet. It was an interesting example of IT in an industry I'm not familiar with. They can spend months designing a shot that will be used for two seconds. As one example Michael showed us how many levels of matte painting, 3d effects, and live shots that all had to be pasted together to create a two-second shot of Xerxes' army crossing into Greece for the movie 300. We also learned the surprising fact that all their servers run Windows NT! Well, at least he didn't mention the "L" word (no, not that "L...

As mentioned earlier by Bev, we are deeply apologetic about our long absence from the blog. Without futher ado, here's the first of many more back-logged entries to come:Gold Coast King PrawnsWe discovered these babies on a trip to the Saturday Fruit & Vegetable Markets at the Brisbane Marketplace (Rocklea). They fetch a healthy $25 a kilo (roughly 20 prawns), and usually sell out a couple of hours before the markets wrap up around midday. That very Saturday, Bev and I decided that we should do something with these prawns, but didn't know exactly what. Bev, as always, wanted to do something clean such as a grilled application with a tomato-based pasta. I, however, was in the mood for something a little more chi-chi, and conjured up ideas of the usual fancy schmancy. Eventually, and as always, we worked around each other's differences and came up with this dish. I don't particularly like writing recipes as you know, as I seldom adhere to them, but anyhow, here's roughly how I mad...
