Gomi's motives are unknown as this time, but with his last loss to Nick Diaz, it's unlikely that Gomi would choose to put his legacy on the line against an ever-motivated BJ Penn.Penn fans point to an early career victory by the Prodigy over the Fireball Kid as reason enough to suggest that it is BJ, not Takanori, who should be regarded as the #1 155 pounder in the world. WVR President Naoya Kinoshita who attended at the press conference, said ?By all means I want Misaki, who fought in New Year?s Yarennoka!, and Gomi who didn?t appear in the New Year?s Eve tournament to participate in ?Sengoku?. 2007-10-19 07:09:00 There was an interview earlier this week, where Gomi said he was going to fight on NYE . Gryphon summarized this, and it looks like it must be a Japanese promotion. Currently the only organization that is 100% to have an event on NYE is K-1 Dynamite. The article goes on to say that he will be fighting a Japanese fighter, there are speculations around this being Masato or Yamamoto "Kid". These would appear to be unlikely... In my mind, the fighter most likely (Japanese) would be Kawajiri.Now we just have to wait and see... Saeki (DEEP Promotor) has said he is working on a NYE event, could there be a fight in the works for this? Also, we have a new promotion starting up... This would be a dream Main Event for their fist event.

For me it is not the fighters moving to the UFC that is eyecatching. I am surprised at a couple of things:1. None of the really top Japanese MMA fighters have accepted any contract.2. The UFC does not seem to want to keep their side of the contract they have taken over after Pride(Joachim Hansen was offered half his contracted salary to fight in the UFC).December 31 is when we really know what will happen with stars such as Gomi, Shinya Aoki, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Kasuo Misaki and other international stars such as Joachim Hansen. This is reportedly when their contracts run out.My guess is that if these fighters were going to the UFC, they would have signed already.
