DER (Defensive Efficiency Ratio or, the percentage of balls in play that aren't home runs converted to an out by our defense) and H/R (how many hits it took to score one run - hits divided by runs scored). DER So far this year the Pirates have a .691 DER and the NL average is .712. While we are ahead of our 2006 DER of .676, we are tanking hard. For instance, in the last 30 days it has been .686 and in the last week, it is just .672. That's not very good.
