Good News, Bad News: Kevin Bacon, Bryan Cranston & Robert De Niro
2012-02-01 23:04:00 Good News: BREAKING BAD’s Bryan Cranston is returning to his comedic MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE-esque roots. Bad News: By stepping behind rather than in front of the camera to direct an upcoming episode of MODERN FAMILY. [Source] Good News: Kevin Bacon has signed on to top-line Kevin Williamson’s Fox drama pilot that will see him play an FBI profiler coaxed out of retirement to stop a diabolical serial killer. [Source] Good News: CBS has awarded Robert De Niro’s police procedural NYC 22 with an April 15th premiere date. 2012-01-31 04:43:00 Good News: Simon Cowell is making good on his promise to tinker with THE X FACTOR following a solid albeit not spectacular inaugural season. Bad News: For host Steve Jones and judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul, all three of whom got the “X,” err… we mean ax, earlier this evening. [Source] Good News: Fox has picked up a pilot written by and starring Mindy Kaling that will see the current OFFICE star play a “young Bridget Jones type doctor trying to navigate both her personal and professional lives.” Bad News: For the denizens of Dunder Mifflin, which is very quickly turning into the television equivalent of the ill-fated Costa Concordia cruise ship. [Source] Good News: Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon has just booked a multi-episode arc playing a fellow Cancer survivor to Laura Linney’s Cathy on the upcoming third season of Showtime’s THE BIG C. RIM’s Co-CEO’s Are Out: Good News Or Otherwise?
2012-01-24 08:36:00 News has just come in that RIM’s founders and Co-CEO’s Mike Laziridis and Jim Balsillie have stepped down to make way for the company’s former COO, Thorsten Heins. RIM has had a particularly bad year in terms of all their devices. The Playbook failed at sales and adoption. The new Blackberry OS got delayed till later this year. They had worldwide outages some months back. All in all the future looks dim for the company. The Co-CEO’s have no doubt bungled up things this year and the company has been quite complacent about their products and market share. Since they were not adopting new technology, other companies and platforms have shot up and are actively eating Blackberry market share. Android and iOS are slowly replacing BB in the corporate world. The Blackberry range of smart phones were the ‘go-to’ phones for professionals due to their tight email delivery and encrypted enterprise servers. These days, every other smart phone platform have perfected e-mail and socia...

2012-01-24 02:13:00 Good News: NBC has ordered a Dick Wolf-produced action-driven drama exploring the Chicago Fire Department and a Jason Katims hour-long set in an underfunded LA County Hospital. Bad News: Picking up shows that smell an awful lot like reboots of the Network’s greatest hits (See: THIRD WATCH and ER) doesn’t exactly exude confidence in the perennial fourth place network’s rebuilding process. We’re just sayin’ [Source] Good News: Casting has begun for The CW’s much-anticipated Green Arrow reboot appropriately titled ARROW. Bad News: For former SMALLVILLE star Justin Hartley. Europe Recession Helps Indian Tech Giants Grow: Good News For Us?
2012-01-23 11:30:00 The European Economic crisis is proving to be a boon for Indian Tech Giants who are reporting robust growth. Until recently, Europe was very stingy when handing their work offshore. However, the growing concern of a meltdown has forced the companies to revaluate their strategies concerning cost reduction through outsourcing. In 2011, top-tier Indian Companies posted a growth between 23% to 40% from their Europe focused operations. In the last quarter alone, Infosys reported a jump of 17% while TCS garnered 17% more revenue. The good news does not end there. The scope of work to come too has shot up with European companies signing more multi-million dollar contracts than the US for the first time. European operations usually account for about 25% or 1/4th of Indian IT Companies total revenues. However, UK is the sole country which hands over the lions-share. Rest untapped markets involve Spain, Italy and the Nordic regions. But things improved in 2011 when Infosys added 14 new clien...

Good News, Bad News: COUGAR TOWN, THE MENTALIST & ALCATRAZ
2012-01-17 21:19:00 Good News: After months of anticipation and speculation, ABC has finally awarded COUGAR TOWN with a spot on its schedule. Bad News: Well, aside from the February 14th Valentine’s Day premiere that all but guarantees much of the show’s core 18-49 demographic will be otherwise occupied for the evening and a completely incompatible lead-in that is LAST MAN STANDING, we’re really going to miss a possibly inebriated Bill Lawrence angrily lash out at ABC’s treatment of COUGAR TOWN via his delightfully honest @vdoozer Twitter handle. [Source] Good News: CBS has given the green light to ELEMENTARY, which is being billed as a modern-day take on SHERLOCK HOLMES. Bad News: Not to be confused with CBS’ current modern day take on the infamous British detective that is THE MENTALIST. [Source] Good News: Last night’s series premiere of ALCATRAZ netted Fox its highest numbers for a new drama series since 2009′s LIE TO ME. Bad News: For the increasingly ten...

Cubs get some rare good news on Garza, Cashner
2011-05-25 01:19:00 The Cubs are finally catching a break Turns out Matt Garza only has a bone bruise, he and will likely miss one start for precautionary reasons. The other good news is Andrew Cashner doesn't need surgery after getting his shoulder re-checked. Casher will begin a rehab in Arizona shortly, but still won't be back too soon. Nonetheless, the Cubs got some good news for a change to couple with the return of Randy Wells this weekend. "It's the best we could hope for," Hendry said of the prognosis. The Cubs hope Garza will return in the St. Louis series June 3-5 at Busch Stadium. "The team and everybody above me feels it's the best thing to do," Garza said. "I'm going to trust their...

Good News in the Garden - More on Spring in Wyoming
2011-04-07 02:50:00 Some great news on the gardening/brewing front, at least 9 out of 10 of our hops plants lived through the winter. I have to admit being pleasantly surprised. We had some very cold days this winter -44 fahrenheit according to our outdoor thermometer, and even in the photos I have uploaded you can see frost heave in the hops bed. We planted 5 varieties of hop rhizomes last year, and were very lucky getting a reasonable batch of hops for brewing in our first year from two of the varieties. I am pleased to see that all of the varieties have survived, though one plant hasn't yet broken the surface - we will have to see if it catches up later, or if it is a casualty.

Like some bloggers who are much smarter than I am, the news was not quite what I was expecting to read. Was Silva also surprised? After the way he pitched a week ago when I saw him during my spring training trip, he probably shouldn't have been. But this is what he said:"Say what you've got to say and say it," he said. "Don't say people are competing for a spot. Because it wasn't true. Nobody was competing for a spot. They...
Some Good News and Some Not So Good News
2011-03-03 05:14:00 Julian Posada attended Section 8 Chicago's monthly board meeting tonight (along with Director of Soccer & Team Development Paul Cadwell and Vice President Emigdio Gamboa) and addressed a variety of issues while taking questions from the attendees. I'll get right to the highlights: The Fire will finally have a team store at Toyota Park. The store is currently under construction and will include 2000 square feet of retail space. The opening date for the store hasn't been set yet. Posada is still working on a jersey sponsor and trying to find the "right sponsor". The organization is more concerned with finding the right sponsor than just making a transaction. "There's a lot of pressure to get that done." If no...

A Plethora of Good News
2011-01-11 20:04:00 Can you tell I'm happy? Last week was filled with check ups and doctor visits, mostly routine stuff for the kids, except that I finally got back to the surgeon after so many months of knee exercises. If you recall, when I saw him last summer after my knee injury he'd sent me to the physical therapist, preparatory to surgery on my ACL and meniscus. I was rather depressed about the whole thing and since then when I haven't been whining about the prospect of being chopped up in major surgery I've been on the stationary bike or doing lunges to try and avoid what seemed to be the inevitable conclusion to my sad, mid-life story. Meanwhile Andrew began skiing again, taking Spencer and David and Grace instead of me and I was quite bitter about it all but last week I went back to the doctor to see how things had come along and if I were finally ready for surgery. I was not-so-secretly hoping he'd say it was a miracle and that I was cured. Which is exactly what he said.&nb...

Minimum Capital Requirements. Good News For Small Companies Looking At Sha
2011-01-05 16:08:00 By: Steve Dickinson Shanghai has recently loosened its minimum capital requirements for WFOEs (Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprises), making location of service businesses in Shanghai far more attractive. Chinese company law mandates all one shareholder corporations have a minimum registered capital of at least RMB100,000. The WFOE formation regulations provide for no specific amount for registered capital. Instead, the rules provide that the amount of registered capital must be sufficient for the proposed operations of the WFOE. Most jurisdictions require the registered capital be equal to the first full year of expenses of the WFOE. As a practical matter, it is rare for a big city jurisdiction like Shanghai to require less than USD$150,000 in registered capital. What many investors do not realize is that the registered capital does not need to be contributed in a single lump sum. The rule is that 15% of the registered capital amount must be contributed within 90 days of WFOE formatio...

Good news - SIDS isn't a crap shoot
2010-12-30 01:03:00 A study came out last week that incidents of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) rise 33% on New Years Day. Why? Because that's when parents drink. The Tribune ran an article December 12 revealing crib bumpers and other obstructions in cribs are rarely reported or factored into SIDS reporting.Apparently the crippling fear that my baby was just going to suddenly die for no reason was probably not warranted because the convenient fact that parental negligence is ignored in SIDS case reporting. Wow. I wasted my life in 2009.I'm not saying that all cases of SIDS are total crap, but it's obvious the character of the phenemenon is vastly skewed in the available resources. Supposedly the scare goes like this: No one...

Morin's demotion good news for Blackhawk fans
2010-10-05 16:57:00 Jeremy Morin. It was a name you hadn't heard before this month, and before the Blackhawk's preseason began. By now, to almost anyone who knows or cares about Blackhawk hockey, he's become a household name. Of all of the prospects battling for roster spots, Morin stood out the most. He was the most consistent, highest scoring, and most electrifying prospect by a long shot. Yesterday, he was sent down. While Morin clearly earned a roster spot with his performance, his cap hit was simply too costly for the Blackhawks, who needed Nick Leddy on the roster to replace the injured Brian Campbell. Jeremy Morin has risen to the top of the Hawks prospect list in one short preseason ...
Good News on P&G Catalina Deal: There Is a Spread
2010-09-27 06:04:00 I just stopped into Jewel-Osco to do a little recon on the Proctor & Gamble Catalina offer. (What's a Catalina deal? It's all explained in this Wise Bread Catalina intro.) Also, I got two 16 oz. boxes of Mrs. T's pierogies for 75 cents each by combining the BOGO sale with the $1/1 coupons from the new Dominick's booklet. Will be trying those tomorrow to see if I wanna go back and get lots more. About the P&G deal, which is "spend $30, get a $10 coupon": I thought there would not be much opportunity to "play the spread" because many of the items might be Osco items, which don't have Preferred Card prices. OK, if you didn't go to...

Sean Conlon believes in Chicago housing again, and that's good news
2010-06-17 01:29:00 Sean ConlonHere's a good sign that the residential real estate market in Chicago is in full recovery mode: Sean Conlon is back in it.Conlon has always had a knack for making money from real estate. In the mid-1990s, he became the top-selling real estate agent in Chicago. Pretty impressive considering that Conlon didn't arrive in the United States until 1990, when he came here from Ireland. Those first few years in the country he worked as a janitor. But he quickly learned that residential real estate had huge potential. As an agent with Koenig & Strey, Conlon often closed more than $150 million in real estate sales in a year. He became famous for a work ethic -- logging more than...

Some VERY good news ...
2010-01-27 06:06:00 As I noted at the end of my last post, there is some "better" news to report today. This is an amazing "mash-up" of two very useful Twitter-centered programs, TweetDeck and TwitterJobSearch, the former being a desktop Twitter manager, and the latter a site which scours Twitter for any and all job listings. The new desktop client is called JobDeck, and it looks to be an awesome way of doing what I've been doing "manually" with the Twitter web interface!I have not had a chance to check this out as yet (it was just unveiled yesterday), but I'd dabbled with TweetDeck previously, and have been meaning to port my Twitter efforts (now that I'm following as many as 500 Twitterers)...
Chicago Cubs Headlines for Wednesday: No News is Good News
2009-12-30 10:28:00 The emptiness of the offseason consumes usWe're nearing the end of the decade, and as we learned yesterday (or probably before), that means lists. Luckily for us, the Sun-Times got the memo and decided to list the biggest local stories of the decade. Unluckily for us, it includes the Cubs. Take it away, Carol Slezak (we'll skip the first part of the Game 6 story, as it involves someone whose name shouldn't be mentioned again). As Alou ranted and raved, pitcher Mark Prior became unnerved and shortstop Alex Gonzalez booted a potential double-play grounder, setting the stage for a shocking Game 6 loss to the Florida Marlins, who won Game 7, too. Some other things happened, too. After a long, drawn-out sales process,...

Good News, Bad News: 90210, PRISON BREAK, BETTER OFF TED & More!
2009-08-11 21:08:00 Good News: EW.com has an exclusive sneak peek at the new season of 90210. [Source] Good News: FOX has signed a deal with publisher Deep Silver to give PRISON BREAK the video game treatment. Bad News: Joining original tenants Josie Bissett [Jane], Laura Leighton [Sydney] and Thomas Calabro [Michael] and leaving this TV Addict increasingly concerned that the proverbial powers that be didn’t learn a thing from 90210’s unfortunate penchant for stunt casting, you know, in lieu of the actual hard work that comes with having to develop a whole slew of interesting new characters and story-lines. [Source] Good News: Jennifer Garner has inked a fresh development deal with ABC, the network that put her on the map. Bad News: The key word here being ‘development, one that, as Michael Ausiello so accurately put it, “calls for the four-time Emmy nominee to develop projects via her Vandalia Films production shingle.” Not act! Good News from Indonesia
2009-07-14 09:07:00 Sekarang kalo saya ngetik ?goog?? di tab Chrome saya, biasanya keluar dua hasil. Google dan Good News From Indonesia. Bukan tipikal pembantu disiksa majika...

[Source] Good News: Arguably, television’s most memorable survivor Richard Hatch was this close to returning to the series that put him on the map (and ironically enough, in jail for tax evasion) for SURVIVOR’s 10th anniversary “Heroes Vs. Villains” edition Bad News: Until that is, a federal judge in Rhode Island denied his request to leave home confinement early. [Source]
