How to Sync Exchange and Google Calendar with a Mac
2009-08-30 23:14:00 Since the latest Mac operating system Snow Leopard adds Exchange support to iCal, I thought maybe now I could reach the holy-grail: Syncing my work calendar, in Exchange, to Google Calendar. This would effectively let me see my business meetings on my Android-based cell phone. I had tried various tricks and tools before, but nothing ever quite worked. But today I tried BusySync, and it seems to work great. All you need to do is setup iCal to access your Exchange server, then in BusySync’s Google tab, check the off the calendar you want to upload in the ‘Publish to Google’ list. There are two problems with this solution however: Changes made to the calendar on Google aren’t synced back to iCal, and worse, they seem to be lost from Google. The calendar name shown in Google is pretty awkward, its currently ‘Calendar[<user@exchan-geserver>]’. I was hoping to try out Spanning Sync and see if it’s similar features would handle Exc...

You can also choose how many minutes should pass between syncs. I tried it out (syncing Google Calendar with Outlook appointments), and was disappointed to find that it only synced with appointments that I had created, not ones that I have been invited to and accepted. So, I quickly uninstalled it. I love Google Calendar, but Outlook gives you a whole lot more tools. Just to be a Google fan I have been using Google Calendar, so now that syncing back and forth is so easy, I can just use both. Syncing secondary calendars is not possible yet, so you will only be able to manage your primary calendar this way, but hope updates are on their way. With Gmail IMAP support and now the calendar syncing, I think I have everything to make Google and Outlook become my dream application. Adjust Google Calendar duration quickly

If you don’t just click somewhere and type, but click and drag to the duration you want, you can still enter the details, and the event will be created with the duration you dragged it to be. Since I hardly ever have a one hour event I find this method really productive and simple, better than setting them one by one anyway.

If you set up two Google Calendar accounts, you should be able to send instant messages between any two phones quite easily. Since the service allows you to register one phone number to send free reminders to, all you need to do is create an account for yourself, register your friend’s/spouse’s/e-tc’s phone number, and create an account for the other party, registering your own phone number. Remember to set a default reminder for both calendars. It needs to be SMS, and say 10 minutes before. When you want to write a message, simply create an event, 15 minutes in the future, and type your message in the “What” field. Save the event, and your girlfriend, or whoever you registered should get this message. You can even use it to send timed messages to someone.
