Useful Google Tools
2007-10-07 21:44:00
This is totally off-topic, but as I sit here not wanting to do anything, I was looking for a particular service that Google provides to site owners. Haven't found what I'm looking for yet, but I ran into a bunch of other stuff that I had no idea existed, and they are actually pretty useful:Google 411 -- Like your phone company's 411, but better and free. 1-800-466-4411 (I'll be programming this into my cell phone today, for sure)Google Transit -- It helps you plan mass transit itineraries. It's not available for most cities, but Dallas is on there and I planned a few trips that I take normally. It's accurate.Google Ride Finder -- Shows you exactly where taxis, shuttle buses, and car services are in real time, along with dispatch phone numbers. GPS or something, I guess.Google Sets -- Harder to describe. You enter similar words in fields and it comes up with lists of similar things. For example, if you enter "FBI", "CIA", and "NSA", it will give you Mossad, KGB, MI5, MI6...

2007-10-05 03:46:00
hen I think of the old traditional maps, I still think of the ones in my glove compartment.  You know the one, you unfold it six times to open it, stretch your arms across the entire front seat of the car to read it, and then you're never able to fold it back up the right way to get it back in the glove compartment again. LOL!  I use to get those maps from AAA before going on road trips with my family, just 2 years ago. oday, there's GPS, Google Earth, Mapquest, Mapopolis, Yahoo maps, TREO's and other options to finding our way around the planet.  So clean out your glove compartments! :-)  In my research to find a marketing tool for a client today, I discovered a Blog that talked about customizing Google Maps!  It's the Google Lat Long Blog. DETAILS>>>  We are creating a map showing all her listings, and one for open houses Sunday. Customize your maps with icons, photos, images, graphics and more. Here are some links to som...

Google tools for webmasters

Google Analytics combined with Google Webmaster Tools can be a lovely set of tools for webmasters to eliminate web crawl errors and find out where your visitors are coming from whether that be referrer-wise or country-wise. Google Analytics tells you exactly how many page views and unique visitors you have had per day whilst also showing what website lead them to yours and approximately where they live. Google Webmaster Tools helps you to understand the Googlebot and how it operates, letting you fine tune the settings for the bot and showing you any errors that it found while crawling your site. I use Google Analytics nearly every time I turn on my computer, just so that I can see how many people I get visiting my website, it can be quite handy. It is just a shame that there is no way to output the data onto your website, the only output features currently available is Tab Seperated Text, XML or as an Excel Spreadsheet, which isn’t really worth doing in my opinion. Google do o...
How to Market a Website Using Google Tools
2007-02-27 09:22:01
Google is kicking some serious butt with their range of free tools for webmasters. Google’s tools are so much more advanced than any offerings from Microsoft or Yahoo or any of the minor players, that there is no real need to mention them at all! Google has cleverly devised this set of tools, knowing the high probability that the website owner / marketer is probably going to use Google Adwords which coincidentally links in beautifully with the rest of the software. The cornerstone to understanding a websites success is to measure its performance on a goal based level. For an E-Commerce site, the most important goal is usually a sale. Other sites may consider new members, contact from the visitor, number of blog comments, or even whether certain pages are viewed or not. Enter Google Analytics: The most comprehensive, free website reporting software I have ever seen. It gives you all the basics such as number of visits, where the traffic is coming from, and traffic over time whi...
