In Britain, a desperate Brown hangs on
2009-06-07 20:07:00 In Britain, a desperate Brown hangs on LONDON - Two years ago, Gordon Brown entered 10 Downing Street for the first time as prime minister and promised, without a smile, to “try my utmost.” The brainy, stone-faced Scot was the perfect tonic for a British public jaded after a decade of his flashy predecessor, Tony Blair. ...

Shifty-eyed Gordon Brown
2009-06-05 10:53:00 Prime Minister Gordon Brown of the United Kingdom may assume that the world is at war and that the general public mostly wish him to wave the white flag and call ?surrender?. But is that the right thing to do?Up and till now I couldn?t have cared less who was in power, as far as I am concerned one politician is as bad as another but recently Gordon Brown has taken poor leadership to whole new depths. His face tells the full story. He barely carries his haggard and sunken, shifty eyed exterior; he depicts a well-dressed prisoner-of-war who snoops and ferrets out camp titbit's for his captors. Slightly better fed than the average prisoner but with a whole lot of things to hide from his peers! The real problem that the British are suffering under is not as one may assume a Telegraph Newspaper led political scandal that has riveted the world for the last four weeks, nor a weak and inept government that has reeled under an economic crisis that has demanded a leader with stamina and stren...
The BBC works in an atmosphere of slanders and fraud-- Besmirching characte
2009-04-15 20:07:00 We and many others have long held that the BBC deliberately smears Israel in its radio and TV broadcasts labeled "news." One BBC propaganda agent, Jeremy Bowen, chief of propaganda on Middle Eastern affairs for the Beeb, has recently been censured [also see here]. Either he had gone too far or representations made by CAMERA and British critics of the BBC had put the management in the position of having to discipline him.But the BBC works in a political atmosphere where slander and fraud, fake "news" stories and sleaze operate at the highest level of government. A close associate of PM Gordon Brown, one Damian McBride, invented vicious slanders, sexual and otherwise, of opposition politicians. David Pryce-Jones reports part of the McBride story:McPoisonThe name of Damian McBride was virtually unknown in Britain, except to a small circle of political insiders, and some of them already called him McPoison. That nickname will now stick for the rest of his life, a reminder of disgrace an...

Populus poll gives 20 point Conservative lead.
2008-06-09 23:55:00 From the Times:Public support for Labour and Gordon Brown continues to plunge to new lows with the Prime Minister's leadership rating falling to a level even below that suffered by Iain Duncan Smith according to a new poll for The Times.Labour?s rating has dropped by 4 points since early May to 25 per cent, with the Conservatives up 5 points to 45 per cent. This is by far the worst Labour position since 1997 and the best Tory one. The Liberal Democrats are up one point at 20 per cent, according to the Populus poll. Only three-fifths of those who voted Labour in 2005 say they would do so now, compared with 95 per cent of Tories staying loyal. Almost one in five of those who voted Labour in 2005 say they would vote Tory in an election now. Moreover, Mr Brown has lost the benefit of the doubt of voters. His leader rating (on a 0 to 10 scale of very bad to very good) has fallen for the fifth time running, down from a peak of 5.49 last July to 3.9 now. This is lower any of the other sev...

Uk Troops to be out of Iraq by end of year - ish.
2008-06-09 23:03:00 The BBC reports:The final withdrawal of British troops from Iraq could be announced by the end of the year.So what are they saying? Well, they are not saying it will be announced, only that it could. And even then they are saying that the announcement could be made by the end of the year - NOT that troops could be withdrawn by the end of the year. The government could announce that troops will be withdrawn in five years time - by the end of the year. I've got to ask - are the government paying the BBC to come out with this crap to try and save Gordon Brown's neck? Also in the news:Moon monkeys could fly out of my arse by the end of the year.My pear tree could produce solid gold pears by the end of the year.Gordon Brown could make a decision by the end of the year.Guido Fawkes could link to me by the end of the year.Nick Clegg could explain his position on the Lisbon Treaty by the end of the year.UPDATE: Guido has linked to me - I guess the BBC could be right after all. 2008-06-05 20:04:00 How long does it take for a government to realise that its policies are a load of old "pony". MPs are worried that removing the need for ministerial input into planning will make the system less accountable. No ...

Gordon Brown's pork pies to parliament exposed.
2008-06-04 19:29:00 Since Gordon Brown came to power he has consistently dodged questions put to him in PMQs by spewing out an endless stream of Tractor production figures. Well it looks like David has taken that to heart and will now expose Brown's dodgy figures. From the Conservative party website (If it's in red it's me):Mr. Brown's claim that the majority of drivers will benefit from changes to the road tax has been exposed as an error (polite parliamentary way of saying he's a lying git).Brown's claim, made in Prime Minister's Questions, contradicts previous Government statements:- In Alistair Darling's Budget Red Book, it was stated: "As a result of these reforms, the majority of motorists will be better or no worse off in 2009."- Treasury figures from April indicate that 81% of cars will be worse off (shocker!)after the changes to Vehicle Ex...

Exclusive: Jacqui Smith now 20/1 to replace Gordon Brown.
2008-06-03 16:30:00 William Hill have cut the odds of Jacqui Smith replacing Gordon Brown from 33/1 to 20/1.From William Hill:YOU BET SMITH COULD SUCCEED BROWNJacqui Smith has emerged as a potential contender to succeed Gordon Brown as Labour Leader and William Hill have cut her odds from 33/1 to 20/1 after she apparently impressed Labour MPs with her arguments over the 42 day issue. 'Ms Smith has apparently enhanced her reputation in recent days and we have cut her odds accordingly, but she still has some way to go to become the first female Labour leader' says Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.Hills make David Miliband 5/2 favourite and also offer 7/1 Johnson; Straw; 8/1 Balls; 9/1 Denham; Purnell; 14/1 Burnham; Cruddas; 16/1 Benn.Today Nick Robinson reported on his Blog that Smith's star could be rising in the Labour leadership race:Shares in Smith soared last night. Gordon Brown Defies Parliament On Terrorist Detention
2008-06-03 09:00:00 Prime Minister Gordon Brown was insistent that police should have the right to detain suspected terrorists for up to 42 days without any charges being presented against them. He is facing a probable defeat in parliament on the issue, but is determined to stick to his guns on what he believes is essential to deal with terrorist activities. “The complexity and sophistication of investigatons that now have to be conducted by the police, compared and contrasted with what was happening 10 years ago, make it inevitable that the police will need more time to conduct their investigations.” Brown is confronting a rebellion by members of his party who are prepared to vote against the government. “I have tried to build consensus around our proposals but I am determined that we stick to our principles and that is that up to 42-day detentiion is and will be necessary in the future, but Parliament will make the final decision on the individual incident itself.” Gordon Brow...
Gordon Brown - Our courageous leader? - 42 days.
2008-06-02 21:00:00 Apparently Ed Balls told Today that Mr Brown would not be forced to resign if the Government lost the vote on 42 days:"In the end, leadership is about doing the right thing. I think the public will support Gordon Brown. "It is about showing leadership at difficult times and showing courage, compared to opposition parties who are playing politics with this."Where do we start?Gordon Brown's idea of leadership is: I'm in charge. We will do as I say....until my MPs tell me different. And why does courage come into it? If Brown knew what the word meant he wouldn't have cancelled the election, backed down over the 10p tax fiasco, dodged signing the Lisbon Treaty with the other leaders, dodged the EU-Africa summit in Lisbon and stitched up Baroness Amos to take his place or reneged on the Labour manifesto promise to give us a referendum (because we would vote NO). 2008-06-02 14:37:00 Press release: Joint leader of unite calls on Labour to change direction2 Jun 2008In the wake of the Crewe catastrophe, Derek Simpson, joint general secretary of Unite, will warn that: "It is not the differences between Gordon Brown and Tony Blair that are the problem, it is the similarities."Speaking at the union's industrial conferences in Brighton this week, Mr Simpson will call for 'New Labour' to be consigned to the history books, as the union opens up a new front to change the policies of the Labour government to show the electorate that only Labour can deal with inequality, housing shortages, rising fuel costs and the health service.A windfall tax on the billion pound profits of oil companies would redefine Gordon Brown's premiership and win back votes for Labour.Mr Simpson will tell delegates: "For years the labour movement held its breath expecting, hoping, for change after the departure of Tony Blair. Gordon Brown put on two weeks notice by Hilton.
2008-06-01 08:31:00 GMTV this morning saw Alex Hilton and Iain Dale discussing Gordon Brown's future. Alex was very bold giving Brown two weeks to turn the party's fortunes around - otherwise he should be visited by the men in Grey suits. Personally I can't see Gordon changing and hope for the nation's sake that he does get that visit.Obviously as a Conservative, it would be better if he stayed, but can the country take another two years of his mismanagement? Whatever happens it's going to be an interesting few weeks in UK politics. We have the Irish referendum on the Lisbon treaty on the 12th of June,(come on Ireland) the by-election for Boris's seat and the vote on 42 days detention.I've been saying for about 6 or 7 months that Brown would be on his way out in May. Gordon Brown - It's NOT the economy stupid.
2008-05-26 10:49:00 In the aftermath of the local elections and the Crewe and Nantwich by-election, Labour Ministers are putting a spin their devastatingly poor results. How many for Shutting our local Police Stations at night? How many for stealth taxes? How many for the 10p tax fiasco? How many for uncontrolled immigration? How many for social decay? This is your pilot Gordon Brown speaking.
2008-05-25 14:38:00 John Prescott came up with a strange analogy to defend Gordon Brown's sullen demeanour on the Andrew Marr show this morning: "When you get on an aeroplane, do you go and look in the cockpit to see if the pilot is smiling".Imagine the situation:Hullo, this is the pilot speaking. We have been informed that our arrival in New York has been delayed. This nothing to do with us, this kind of delay is happening around the world and I'm afraid it's out of my hands. Now, normally this is the point where I would say that there's no need for concern.... but, you see, ah - now how shall I put this? Gordon Brown - Leadership challenge to be announced tonight?
2008-05-24 23:27:00 There are several opportunities for a leadership challenge to be mounted against Gordon Brown over the next 18 months. Tonight is the first. Striking while the iron is hot would see a challenge announced in time for the Sunday papers. Some will think this wild speculation, but I remember that months ago Labour MPs were telling the press (off the record) that Brown had until May to turn things around. He most definitely has not. There are Labour MPs and Ministers who have been preparing for months for just the kind of collapse we have witnessed this month. So watch this space. Nick Robinson hits Gordon Brown's nail on the head.
2008-05-16 13:00:00 Nick Robinson is often accused of being soft on Gordon Brown by the right and of showing contempt for the PM from the left. To be honest this is probably down to Nick writing his articles from the centre ground - you can't please them all. Anyhoo, Nick's latest post directs his readers to an essay he wrote for the Today programme at the end of Gordon Brown's extraordinary week (as he describes it). The essay gives us an insight into what is really happening behind the scenes in the Labour party. Nick hits Gordon Brown's nail right on the head:"Imagine. Imagine just for a second. What if there had not been an emergency Budget this week. What if the government had not borrowed an extra £2.7 billion to pay for a tax cut to 22 million people? Ministers are in no doubt. Labour MPs would have defeated the Finance Bill - that's the legislation that implements the Budget. That would have been led to the resignation of the Chancellor, Alistair Darling. The electorate is nothing but a Heartbreaker, but How Can You Mend A Broken Heart? So I'm saying to you the electorate that I've Gotta Get A Message To You, no more Jive Talkin'. I believed in my own Immortality. I was Guilty of not understanding your Ordinary Lives, but now I say Run To Me my children, because If I Can't Have You, I don't care if I Live Or Die. This is more than just Words, you mean the World to me. If you will only believe me, I could be Saved B...

Gordon Brown is getting on with the job?
2008-05-15 10:48:00 This morning Gordon Brown told Sky's Adam Boulton that he was not considering his position and would be getting on with the job. I'd like to know when he bloody started. He's just borrowed another £2.7bn when we are already up shit creek, and he is spending like kid on pocket money day. The Guardian are reporting that £2.8bn is lost each year by Revenue and Customs because it is not cost-effective to chase it up. Surely the system needs sorting out. What kind of financial system accepts losses on such a massive scale? Oh yes, that's right, one run by Gordon Brown for ten years. Muppet. Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device

10p tax - See you next year Darling?
2008-05-13 20:13:00 OK, Darling has announced his fix for the 10p tax fiasco. This apology patch bribe is welcome news for around 4 million of those ripped off by Darling's first budget. However there are a couple of problems with this fortuitously timed solution (by-election?):For a start this will cost £2.7bn. Where is it coming from? Darling is going to borrow it. So much for "Tories and their unfunded tax cuts". And we are already in serious debt.Rather than helping out the 5.3 million people who needed help, everyone earning up to £40,835 will be £120 better off - except, that is, for over a million of the lowest paid.George Osborne stressed Alistair Darling's announcement was a one-off payment rather than a long-term plan to compensate those hit by the axing of the 10p tax rate.Let's summarise for those Labour supporting idiots who are crowing about this: Brown and Darling are only responding to their own cock-up. Over a million people are still worse off. If Brown had not been forced to act o...

How Gordon Brown Could Learn From Obama and McCain
2008-05-13 10:46:00 Seen from the British side of the pond American politics offers hope where here we have the continued worship of the mantra that, as Bismarck said, “Politics is the art of the possible”. I am a fan of the blog of Iain Dale a commentator from the mainstream of Britain?s Conservative party, not because I agree ... |
