I have posted links to various artist, and to various videos that I think of as Gospel Blues, but the difficulty is in the fact that I grew up in a time and place when music was not put into as many categories as it is today.Some of the music that I heard in church (like the video above) was no different then some of the music I heard coming out of the local Juke Joint. And on some occasions it might have even been the same person singing in church that was singing in the Juke Joint. I doubt that Rosetta Tharpe ever performed in a Juke Joint, but I have no doubt that she would have been right at home.For me there is not much difference between some blues music and some gospel music. If you sat at the foot of Calvary, would the gospel be hard to hear? Would it be hard to hear at Pentecost or in the Upper Room? The gospel wasn't written by Paul but when Protestants say "the gospel" what they really mean is a post 16th century reading of the Pauline epistles - ignoring much of the actual gospels and the rest of the New Testament. No matter how you put it, “vessels of wrath, prepared for destruction (Romans 9:22),” just doesn’t sit well in your stomach. When it comes to this subject, hell, either preachers tend to seize it like its candy and they yell and scream and treat it like it gives them some sort of right to be jerks to people…or preachers tend to totally avoid it and reason it away with things like universalism, annhilationism, or arminianism. 2008-05-11 11:01:00 Joyce ‘Dottie’- Rambo, a southern gospel singer and song writer, died on May 11, 2008 as a result of injuries sustained in a fatal bus accident outside of Springfield, Missouri. Rambo was traveling to a show when the tour bus they were traveling in struck a guard rail and hit an embankment. Rambo was pronounced dead on the scene.
