Harmony of the Gospels | Chronological records on the life and times of Jes
2008-05-10 09:02:00
And said Jesus, "Peace be unto you! As the Divine Father has sent me, I am sending the peace to you." - John 20:21The Life and Times of the Lord Jesus Christ: A Harmony of the Gospels by Peter Smith is an important contribution in  bringing the event of Christ's life together as a "fifth gospel". It presents the life of Christ in its correct chronological order with all the details intact whereas the synoptic gospels were not all chronologically recorded, only the gospel of John was.The canonical gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John written between 65 and 100 AD., individually doesn't mention all of the events of the life of Christ. For example, John's Gospel records only 49 events, Mark's 70 events,Matthew's 94 events, and Luke's 118 events of Christ life. Its scholarly recognized that first canonical gospel was that of Mark (c 65-70) which in turn was used as a source for the gospel of Matthew and Luke. Gospel of John presents quite a different picture, which probably expla...

The Gnostic Gospels
2008-03-17 05:01:00
I’ve brought up a subject here that not only interests me greatly, but also confuses the hell out of me! My knowledge on the subject of Gnosticism and the Gnostic Gospels is limited, so I was wondering if anyone had any information to share? Here is a quick summary of what I know: 1) The Gnostic Gospels ...

Book Review: The Cornbread Gospels
2008-01-14 19:18:00
My cornbread doesn't look as good as the photo on the book cover, but it sure tasted delicious!I laughed, I cried, I sat spellbound and on the edge of my seat to the very end! I was reading the newest Harry Potter book, right? Wrong. I just finished reading The Cornbread Gospels by Crescent Dragonwagon and I absolutely LOVE this book. This is not just a cookbook. It's stories wound around history, looped with facts and hints and tied together with recipes that will join your repertoire and never, ever leave. It's not just cornbread recipes, either! It's muffins and pones and pancakes and go-withs like greens and soups.I, like so many people that Crescent Dragonwagon met in her travels, grew up with cornbread and have a deep affection for it; not just because I love it, but because of the memories it brings with it each time it's pulled hot from the oven. When I told my mom about this book, the first thing out of her mouth was, "Grandma made cornbread every day of her life." I di...
The Parables Of Christ Jesus: A Series
2008-01-07 18:44:00
I love the parables that our Lord Christ Jesus taught in the Bible. I love that the parables are such simple stories that teach so much about the kingdom of God. Why did our Lord Jesus Christ teach using parables? By teaching in parables, two prophecies were fulfilled — one is Isaiah 6:9-10, and the other in ...
Bethlehem Or Nazareth?
2007-12-17 08:29:00
It appears that the Vatican has done it again, i.e. changed what is clearly stated in the Bible, God’s Word, to something else at their whim and fancy. This time, it has to do with where our Lord Jesus Christ was at His birth. Now, I don’t care much for putting up the Christmas tree or nativity ...
Bedouin Soundclash - Street Gospels
2007-10-15 01:07:00
[audiobook] The Gnostic Gospels By Elaine Pagels
2007-08-30 03:26:00
Documents unearthed in Egypt fifty years ago have revolutionized the study of early Christianity, showing the developing religion to be much more lively and diverse than previously thought. Elaine Pagels explores the meaning and impact of books like the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Truth as they relate to Christianity two thousand years ...
Do the Gospels Deserve Our Attention?
2007-06-22 16:36:00
We have another good question from a blogger asking, ?The Gospels were written decades after the supposed events they described by individuals who were probably not eyewitnesses given the short life expectancy during that era.?They claim the most common response they receive from Christians is, ?If the story is false or embellished as you speculate, why would early Christians die for a story that was obviously untrue??---I must also ask (the questioner), to establish the premise: By what authority do you conclude your ideas of when and by whom the Gospels were written?---I must admit that I agree with the author in that simply claiming that people becoming martyrs over the belief that something is true does not in and of it self make it true. In example they give the Muslims. Muslims indeed martyr themselves for a belief they hold, which any Christian must confess disagrees with the Word of the True God, I AM. Yet it could be noted that Christians usually become martyrs by the hands...
5 Months in 1 Sermon: Piper on the Gospels & Justification
2006-08-08 19:03:13
This past Sunday was a special day. For the second year in a row, we had a combined service in the parking lot of the new building for our north campus. There easily could have been around 4,000 people there in attendance and it was exciting to be together worshipping God with one voice. And John Piper was back! He again thanked us for his sabbatical, and then delivered a great message. As is typical upon his return from a writing leave, Piper preached a message birthed from his thoughts and labor over the writing of his books during the past few months. As soon as the sermon is posted onine at Desiring God, I plan to link to it. But I couldn’t wait until then to comment on it. The sermon’s text was Luke 18:9-14, the parable of the Pharisee and tax collector. While his main point had to do with his book on Justification’s importance (an answer to N.T. Wright), he also touched on a topic relative to his other book on the demands of Jesus in the Gospels. I want to di...
