It is correctly pronounce "HOW-da."Go figure. Apparently the Dutch can't spell to save their lives.At any rate, it's good stuff and this soup is one of our winter favorites with all that tasty howda and wild rice in there. Sticks to your ribs it does.5 tablespoons butter1/2 cup onion16 ounces turkey kielbasa, sliced and halved4 tablespoons flour3 14-ounce cans chicken broth1 cup cooked wild riceĽ teaspoons pepperdash of nutmeg3 cups shredded smoked gouda2 cups fat free half and halfSaute onion and sausage in butter. Whisk in the flour and mix thoroughly. Slowly add the broth and whisk thoroughly to avoiding making lumps. Bring to a boil then reduce heat slightly and cook for two minutes more.Add rice, pepper and nutmeg and bring to boil. I really need it to slow down so I am going to spend the day searching for the slow down button (yeah in all of my spare time!). I have my oldest daughter home with me today. She seems to be really tired and says she is not feeling well. I really don't want a repeat of the last time she said that and I sent her to school anyway! I'm sure they don't want that either!!! So she is going to have to tag along with me all day!I have to drop my youngest one off at the new school that she started yesterday (we don't mess around here-things happen fast!), run to the dr's office and pick up the form that I dropped off yesterday to allow her new school to inject her with an Epipen is she starts to swell all up from an ant bite (I guess I should have considered this earlier???), drop that and her Benadryl (for the same thing) off at her school and then I have to go to my girlfriends house and help get her packed up...

Gouda Cheese Fondue
2007-09-24 07:05:00 Serves 41 pound gouda cheese, shredded 2 tablespoons butter 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 1-1/2 cups milk 2 teaspoons finely chopped garlic1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1/4 cup dry white wine 2 teaspoons Kirsch bread, cubed pepper to tasteMelt the butter in a heavy saucepan over low heat; add the flour, stirring with a wire whisk. Add the milk, stirring rapidly with whisk. Slowly stir in shredded cheese, stirring constantly. When blended and smooth, add the garlic, pepper, nutmeg and wine. Add the kirsch, if desired. Serve hot with bread cubes for dipping.
