World?s Gutter Governments To Sit In Judgment Over U.S. Human Rights Record
2008-09-10 16:46:00
-By Frederick Meekins No one is perfect. As such, at times correction and admonition may need to be promulgated to set the ethically concerned back on the right path. When issued by those adhering to the high standards to which they profess, such criticism can be looked upon as a helpful corrective to assist ...
Google Succeeds Where Governments Fail
2008-06-03 16:26:00
With Google now recognised as the UK?s number one brand we?re seeing the developing maturity of an Internet-controlling corporation. Google has been remarkably subtle and intelligent in taking control of the Internet. They won the search engine wars some time ago, effectively defining the way Websites are developed and presented. Governments and the EU have ...
China Earthquake Relief, Charitable Giving, Big Governments, And The Formin
2008-05-25 17:16:00
A few months ago, while in Seoul, Korea, I had an excellent discussion with a Korean-American friend of mine. This friend was born and grew up in the United States, but has been living in Korea for the last ten years or so. The day we met, he had seen a guy slapping around his girlfriend in broad daylight and nobody was doing anything other than watching and dialing (probably the police) on their cell phones. My friend walked over, told the boyfriend to stop it, and was soon joined by others doing the same. Kitty Genovese. My friend then launched into a discourse regarding Big Government and the difference between Koreans and Americans. Koreans, he said, count on government for so much more than Americans. So much so, he said, that certain things "we Americans" take for granted, Koreans do not. My friend was convinced that the reason nobody stepped in to help the poor woman getting slapped around was because it never really occurred to the bystanders to do anything other t...

Diplomacy is tried to reduce tensions over Abkhazia
2008-05-22 14:58:00
The long military standoff in Abkhazia, where a separatist dispute has risked escalating this year to a renewed war, has entered a phase of quiet diplomacy aimed at easing tensions and urging negotiations, according to officials on both sides of the conflict. No agreement to negotiate has been reached, and the differences between the Abkhaz and ...

Iran?s influence in Latin America worries U.S.

Left-wing governments in Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua and Bolivia have all become allies of Iran in recent years, and other countries in Latin America have diplomatic ties with the Islamic republic. Shannon said Iran wants to ease its international isolation by showing it is able to win friends in Latin America, which has been historically in the ...
Why do the governments intervene sexual and reproductive behaviours?
2008-05-06 10:33:00
....(con't) Beyond Choice by Alexander SangerThe governments throughout history have enacted laws and policies attempting to promote marriage, to restrict sexual activity to marriage for purposes of procreation, and in general to promote public morality. In addition to laws against contraception and abortion, there have been laws prohibiting adultery, fornication, rape, non-procreative sex, homosexuality and incest. Why should governments intervene in some sexual and reproductive behaviors and decisions and not others? Many societies now and in the past have believed that a large and growing population was necessary to attain their national objectives, in military, political, economic and social aspects. Today some societies believe that, on the contrary, a large and growing population will prevent them from attaining whatever their national goals might be. Citizens don?t necessarily cooperate with their nation?s demographic plans.Though reproductive choices and decisions are person...

State Governments Battered By Slowing Economy

New Australian Prime Minister apologizes for past Governments? dark deeds

It’s a rare occasion to see a minister of any country to apologize for previous administrations and Australia’s newly sworn-in Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, has definitely done it right. What he is apologizing for is not just bread and butter issues, but injustice committed against the Aborigines for more than 200 years. In Japan, the Japanese ...

This Is What Governments Do
2008-04-02 20:52:00
If you can stomach the last half of this video, you are a grade-A, certifiable sociopath. This is what governments do:(YouTube link)Toward the end of watching this video, I was sobbing uncontrollably and wondered, "What the hell is wrong with me?" The answer came to my mind like a laser in the dark: "Not a thing. Not a single fucking thing." And I let myself feel it some more, because burying rage, hatred, and fear inside yourself doesn't make it go away, but only makes you a raging, hateful, and fearful person. This is what governments do: They find a problem, point guns at people, and call it the final solution to that problem. "Want mail service? Give us your money. No seriously, [poke of gun in the ribs] give us your money." And then they write laws and point guns at anybody who tries to compete with their 'service.'At least the mugger doesn't tell you it's for your own good. "I'm stealing this money to open a bakery for you to enjoy, you see?" Implicit is that you wanted a...

Al Qaradawi on Violent Jihad and Revolts Against Governments
2008-02-15 21:35:00
In a recent appearance al Jazeera, Muslim Brotherhood theologian Yousef al-Qaradawi took an interesting , but not unusual line on violent jihad-it is not wrong, but it is ineffective. In the midst of a discourse on the Caliphate, the need to rotate leaders out of power (and why the Muslim Brotherhood does not, by his own admission, despite the preference of four to six year terms for the leader), al-Qaradawi turns his attention to violent jihad and armed revolution, which I put here as a lengthy...(read more)

Hoping That Arab Governments Are Blamed
2008-01-28 23:19:00
On Wednesday I wrote ?Hoping Hamas is Blamed.? It?s pretty obvious now, just as it was then, that Hamas isn?t going to be blamed and Israel?s plan will not succeed. Luckily, a new possible scapegoat has joined the herd ? other Arab governments. The predicamentEgypt?s been left with quite a problem; Hamas will not allow the Egyptian government to shutdown the border peacefully. That leaves them with essentially two options. Option number one of the Egyptians is to shut their border with Gaza down by force. The problem with this, in their view, is that it (a) possibly destabilizes the region (b) infuriates relatives of Palestinians in Egypt.Option number two is allowing continued free passage between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. This would upset Israel and the U.S. As well, it could draw the ire of many Egyptians if Gazans become perceived as unwelcome guests.A new scapegoatUnless Gazans point their fingers at Hamas in retaliation for their poor situation, there is another group they blam...

Notice to All Foreign Governments and Private Owners of Real Estate within
2008-01-03 10:14:00
by Kahentinetha Horn Colonialism is a disease. It is characterized by fantasies, delusions, greed and destruction of everything in its path. Something like the “Cookie Monster” that eats everything up and just leaves a few crumbs behind. For the past few centuries the controllers of Europe have been severely afflicted. In the 1800s they thought they could meet in Berlin and decide who owned every corner of the earth. They didn’t even ask the Peoples who lived there. During the 20th century some of these European megalomaniacs had a lapse of sanity. The disease went into a short remission. For a brief moment war didn’t make sense to them. They founded the “League of Nations”, which folded because they were not sincere. Their delusions were so strong that they didn’t bother talking with other nations. After all, “We’re the only “master civilized race” in the whole wide world”, they told themselves. They kept on making wars among each othe...

Governments Must Say No to 'Biofuels'
2007-12-06 01:18:00
Biofuels must not be promoted as a solution to climate change, Friends of the Earth International said today, just a few days before key United Nations climate change talks start in Bali, Indonesia. The environmental group, speaking ahead of the 3-14 December Bali talks, warned that an increase in the use of biofuels - also widely known as agrofuels - would have disastrous social and environmental impacts. Agrofuels such as palm oil are set to be promoted as a major solution to climate change at the UN climate talks. The demand for agrofuels mainly to fuel cars -mainly in over-consuming industrialised countries- is skyrocketing. Yet recent studies from around the world highlight that the agrofuels boom is having severe social and environmental impacts. Forests are being cut down and Indigenous Peoples and forest dwelling communities are being displaced, often violently, from their territories to make way for agrofuels plantations run by multinational corporations that expropriat...

Tax Impact on Local Governments from Housing Bust

Defaulters don’t pay taxes on properties, and those with plummeting house values will demand  reassessments.   That’ll put pressure on governments that like to plan ahead on revenues generated during the good times.   CNNMoney reports that California alone is expected to see a property tax reduction of $3 billion in 2008. Governments are worse than media
2007-11-06 23:12:00
From Vietnam to Iraq, media demonstrated its destructiveness to national war effort. Media discredits the government, stigmatizes the military, and broadcasts enemy propaganda speeches. Will CARICOM Governments Have To Spend More Money On The Recently Construct
2007-10-11 01:57:00
Recently, the International Cricket Council (ICC) which is the governing body for World Cricket, instituted some changes to the playing conditions, effective 29 September 2007. The BU household, like most West Indians, was concerned about the huge sums of money which the region spent to support CWC 2007. Six months later, we remain steadfast in our view that money which were spent to prepare for CWC 2007 does not match a realistic expectation of returns. The much touted legacy benefits are yet to be realized. We hope, for our children’s sake, that we are wrong and the debt created by CWC 2007 is not recorded as the biggest white elephant the region has ever seen. (more…)

BBC World World Affair correspondent Paul Reynolds made a wonderful handbook for overthrowing governments and regimes like the one in Burma ,I found it very interesting because some factors are the key for any successful revolution that wants real change with historical examples from around the globe Those key factors are the following : Widespread public protests, bringing in many different social and economic groups An opposition leadership with clear ideas around which people can rally The ability to use the media in some form to get a message across A mechanism for undermining the existing regime - whether by internal coup in the case of a military junta, the emergence of reformers, or the simple exhaustion of an existing government leading to its collapse External pressure from key countries able to exert Some wise people will say hey Zeinobia can we implement this in Egypt !!?? Has Sir Allen Stanford Tricked Caribbean Governments Into Buying His Ailing
2007-09-01 17:53:00
Caribbean Sun back by year-end Published on: 9/1/07. MIAMI – Six months after shutting down its operations, the Miami-based Caribbean Sun airline that operated flights throughout the northern Caribbean announced plans yesterday to resume business by year-end. The airline, owned by Antigua-based Texan billionaire Sir Allen Stanford, said it had significantly upgraded its fleet and service capabilities and would return to the skies utilising Boeing 737 jet aircraft. It said recruitment of new pilots would begin in the coming weeks. “Caribbean Sun’s relaunch follows a comprehensive six-month restructuring programme to identify new growth opportunities in air travel and refocus operations for greater profitability,” the company said, noting that the relaunch plans were subject to regulatory approvals from the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
