Demonizing a Grandma who Paid $63,500 to Dine with Palin
2009-09-23 18:00:00 It isn’t just heads of gay groups (and some of our commenters) who fall into its of apoplexy when people express viewpoints with which they disagree, left-wing blogs also attract their share of unhappy Republican-haters. (And as they spew their bile, they accuse their ideological adversaries, often calling them their enemies, of hatred.) Now, one of ...

Obama Comes Clean On Healthcare “We Don’t Want To Kill Grandma, We Want
2009-09-08 16:38:00 (Washington D.C.) Yesterday, in advance of President Obama’s health care address to a joint session of Congress, the White House released the text of his speech. One paragraph involving the controversial death panels has caught the attention of the nation. My fellow Americans, let me make this clear, the federal government does not want to kill your grandma. There will be no death panels for her….But make no mistake, there will be death panels for your grandpa. We, the government, want to get rid of that tired old man, so that we can date your grandma. Because let’s face facts, she’s still got some tread on that booty, and we want to drive that booty all the way to funky town.

Grandma?s Reading Glasses Chain Reinvented With A-Morior Sunglasses By Keri
2009-08-04 12:00:00 Reading glasses with attached chains or strings have typically come with the rather geeky, grandma fashion air around them. But, a designer has now recently introduced a contemporary version of this glasses trend, which is all about fashion and very little about function.
We Love Our Grandma
2009-03-31 18:36:00 We love it when grandma is here. She always let us play in her room. So it was like we were in some free hotel rooms or something. Meow!!But now grandma has gone home and the doors are once again closed to us.. boo hoo.. we missed grandma!Cheerio...

Grandma's 'Sketti
2009-03-15 17:52:00 This is another of my grandmother's recipes that was never written down and never submitted to a church cookbook. She made it very often when we were younger and it was such a favorite of ours that when she didn't make it one of my brothers would get upset about the missing 'sketti. This is a true comfort food to me. Each time I make it I'm transported to Grandma's summertime kitchen. The chef in me wants to embellish it; add garlic and Parmesan. If I did that, though, the flavor would change enough that it wouldn't be Grandma's and the comforting effect would be lost. This was beef-a-roni way before it was ever a boxed or canned mainstream product.Grandma's 'Sketti1 small onion - chopped1 pound ground beef1 can (46 ounces) tomato juice (Grandma always used sodium-free because of dietary restrictions, I use the real deal)2 cups uncooked macaroni (elbows) If you want specifics, Grandma used Mueller's.salt and pepper to tasteCook onion and beef together until beef is well brow...
Humble Pie
2009-03-14 22:45:00 My maternal grandmother played a very large role in forming who I?ve become, and although she is no longer with us, she continues to impact me in positive ways. One way is the legacy she left behind with recipes. Grandma didn?t have a book that she kept for herself, but she did often submit recipes to various churches for publication in their fundraising cookbooks. None of her recipes were ever very fancy or spicy or complicated; it was humble food, reflecting the era she belonged to and the area she grew up in. Grandma was a true Midwestern cook; heaping portions of hearty food filled with local ingredients (corn and pork) and served with love. Born in 1908, she came of age at a time when the nation?s economy was at its worst ? a bit like today. Much of her cooking was influenced by lack rather than abundance and this recipe for buttermilk pie reflects that era very well. I will share the recipe how it was originally written and add deciphering notes at the end for anyone ...

Pear And Pecan Tea Cakes - An Afternoon With Grandma
2008-10-27 06:50:00 I'd like to dedicate this post to another great lady, Bri who passed away last night. My sincere condolences to her husband and her family.A post I was reading the other week prompted me to take out my grandmother's china and silverware out of their cases and bring them to life for a little while. The time of a dessert, a picture or a post. The time of a memory I might give my mother about a certain time in her past. I know I'll never be as creative as Pia in styling and setting the mood for the pieces I inherited but the moment was right to polish those spoons and dust off those cups.I started to take pictures of the spoons on their own and although pretty, something was missing. I made some tea and hoped that the smell and relaxing atmosphere would inspire me a little. It was allright...not bad, there was still that little "je ne sais quoi" missing. I took a step back and tried to remember the last time I had seen my grandmother use those pieces. Had I? Ever? No, not really.......

I Attuned My Grandma to Reiki!
2008-06-01 18:09:00 My grandma is 87 years old, though she's really one of those "87 years-young" people. She drives a red sports car, and takes courses, volunteers daily at a Senior Center near her house - walks there - bakes cookies, makes dolls and beaded necklaces, and comes for dinner every Friday night. She's great. I've given her Reiki a few times, and she's liked it and said it helped her. She has recently developed an infection in one leg, and she is taking antibiotics for it. I gave her Reiki a few times, which did help. Yesterday she came over and I attuned her to Reiki and taught her how to call in the energy, and some hand positions for giving herself Reiki treatments. I told her to practice and the sensations would get stronger.I have to admit that my attunement was a little awkward because I had to refer to my manual several times; it's been a while since I've done any. I realized that I'd better brush up because I'm going to be teaching a Reiki class next month! I know it worked...

Grandma Chic
2008-05-16 01:22:00 I, Yours truly, hereby coin the term "Grandma Chic." I've been using the term casually for some time now, but I've finally decided to make it official. And what you may ask is "Grandma Chic"? Well, that's the beauty of it; I believe the term is quite self explanatory, and does a superb job of calling to mind the precise qualitative nature which it is meant to denote. You see, it refers to a certain type of vintage aesthetic that while reminiscent of a bygone era and a doting motherly figure, remains thoroughly 'en vogue.' Examples of Grandma Chic:Let it also be noted that the entire modern craft movement could in fact be characterized as grandma chic.

Emporia Life Plus handset for Grandma
2008-04-29 16:45:00 It’s a good idea to get the seniors in your life a phone that’s easy for them to use. Emporia’s Life Plus is the latest of elderly friendly phones that cater to those over 50 years old. It weighs 138 grams, with 250 hours of standby time, has a “super loud” handsfree speaker, oversized display and buttons, an integrated flash light, even a Hearing Aid compatible earpiece. Another interesting feature is the single press ICE (’In Case of Emergency’) number dial/emergency SMS. For those, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up moments. They just need to work on meeting a senior’s budget, because at ÂŁ144.67, it’s a bit expensive. [trustedreviews] VIA [Ubergizmo]

Grandma Hates Taking Shots
2008-04-15 21:52:00 Today I was so busy because I am the only one available to take my granny to the doctor, everyone else is busy, not that I mind doing that because we get to spend time together and talk about the old days, she is in her 70's and she loathes having to go anywhere near a doctor, especially when it involves anything with a needle. She definitly likes that idea of taking a pill for what she needs. At least we know that she is willing to do that. B-12 is very important especially for older folks. Its great for energy, and people with diabetes, dimentia and so much more. I see this as a great alternate as to going and taking shots which many people are not going to do, and therefore, they are missing something that they really need. If you or someone that you know are in need, then go ahead and tell them more about it or go to the site to check it out. The site has tons of information for just about everything that you need to know and I am sure that you will feel the same way that I did...

Grandma Craft Tips: How To Understand Crochet Basics
2008-04-11 16:07:00 To get started we can begin with crochet abbreviations to help you relate to the process. Crochet experts use the terms beg (Beginning) bet (Between), bk lp (Back loop) ch (chain), ch-(previous chain), cont (Continue), dc (double crochet), dec (decreasing), dtr (double/triple crochet), ft lp (Front loop), hdc (half-double crochet), inc (Increasing), lp (loops), and so on. Those who crochet must learn how to handle the hook, work jointly, chain stitch, slip knot, and crochet a single row. How to hook: To hold your hook you would start with a pencil. The hook may have a resting finger, which you can locate your thumbs to gain control. How to work in union: Once you have a hold on your hook, weave the thread/yarn so that your, left fingers have control, and can be used to apply pressure. Once you begin your project (Work), you want to use your thumb and the center left finger to press the stitches. How to slip knot: You want to form a shape-like pretzel by looping your yarn about, allo...
