THE BEST OF THE GRATEFUL DEAD
2008-08-28 11:44:00 Jerry Garcia was born in August and died in August. August was a heavy month for old Jerry. And I wanted to mark his birth and passing during the first week of August but I'll be hohttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl-.link.gifnest: I forgot. But better late than never. I thought I'd post my 10 favorite Garcia moments, in order. I was a huge fan of the band. I know it's weird: I loved the Clash and I loved the Dead, and the bands are really polar opposites: Political vs. Apolitical; short and hard vs. self-indulgent and loosey goosey; punks vs. hippies...What can I say? I'm a man of mysterious tastes.9 songs in the zip file, and a few are here as savefiles, too.10. Walking On The Moon/Consider Me Gone/Been Down So Long-Sting with Jerry Garcia. No, it's not Jerry's best work, but I do enjoy hearing him play with someone other than Bobby, Phil, Mickey, Bill, and whichever other hanger on is around. And this is a really sweet medley.9. Grateful Dead Archive to University of California Santa Cruz
2008-04-25 07:19:00 Bob Weir and Phil Lesh have announced that the extensive archives of the Grateful Dead will be donated to the University of California at Santa Cruz. The university will house the items in their special collections unit in an area dubbed Dead Central.Weir said at a press conference, "We looked around, and UC Santa Cruz seems the best possible home. If you ever wrote the Grateful Dead a letter, you'll probably find it there!"Included in the archive will be all of the band's correspondence, photographs, videos, promo items, posters, t-shirts, gifts that the band received and even full stage backdrops. The collection will not house any of their concert recordings.Christine Bunting of the University said, "It will provide extraordinary opportunities for researchers and the public to examine the music of one of the most influential bands in history, as well as explore the cultural phenomenon of Deadheads, the most dedicated and celebrated fans in music."
Grateful Dead and Deadheads reunite for Obama
2008-02-08 06:09:00 Saying Barack Obama embodies political hope absent since Robert Kennedy was slain 40 years ago, three surviving members of the Grateful Dead rock band reunited on Monday for the first time in four years to back the presidential candidate. "Every few generations a guy like this comes along," drummer Mickey Hart told a news conference a day before California's primary, in which Obama, a senator from Illinois, faces New York Sen. Hillary Clinton. "It seems like desperate times and we're desperate people." The counter-culture band, known for its loyal "Deadhead" fans, broke up in 1995 after the death of its leader, guitarist Jerry Garcia. They have since played together occasionally, most recently in 2004. But what was it like? Like this: Grateful Dead for Obama.

Grateful Dead, Deadheads reunite for Obama
2008-02-05 06:17:00 By Adam Tanner SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Saying Barack Obama embodies political hope absent since Robert Kennedy was killed 40 years ago, three surviving members of the Grateful Dead reunited on Monday to back the presidential candidate. "Every few generations a guy like this comes along," percussionist Mickey Hart told a news conference a day ahead of California's primary, in which Obama is the underdog against Hillary Clinton. "It seems like desperate times and we're desperate people." The band known for its loyal fans, known as "Deadheads," broke up in 1995 after band leader and guitarist Jerry Garcia died. They have since played together occasionally, most recently in 2004. At a San Francisco concert in front of 2,400 fans, singer-guitarist Bob Weir, 60, said the counter-culture band has never performed on behalf of a presidential candidate before, though they have often embraced liberal social causes. "The last time hope was in the air,...

The Joggers Cover Deerhoof, Grateful Dead
2007-12-01 08:37:00 On The Joggers myspace page, they now link to a new Joggers blog. It's been going on for a month now, and has lots of info - I didn't realize Dan and Jake also play in a band called Pseudosix, which I will be checking out immediately, and Daryl the bassist is out for a while with a hockey injury. But the big news comes in the form of a link to PRA radio - Portland Radio Authority, which is a treasure-trove of Portland area recordings, including TWO shows from the Joggers, plus an interview, as well as a Damo Suzuki (Can) tribute featuring Dan and Jake from the Joggers. One of the Joggers' shows is the cover-laden set from NYE last year featuring the below songs, and, oh, Led Zeppelin. The links at PRA are working weirdly right now, though, to get to the Joggers shows you first have to go to the PRA homepage and then to the link for PODCAST - PRA Events. When I went to that link yesterday it showed me a page full of concerts including the above mentioned Joggers' sets, but now it...

GRATEFUL DEAD - The Other Ones Restored Edition (1967-1995)
2007-11-11 11:09:00 Due to the discover of a new long 1967 performance, we decided to expand our The Other Ones compilation. In doing this, we also decided to substitute some of the formerly included performances with new better sounding items - and notably the 1971, 1989, 1994 and 1995 ones - and to remove the unuseful one minute long 1972-part2 track. All these variations are included in the CDs 1 and 4, wich we provided of new links: so, if you intend to upgrade your copy, download these two volumes only. All of this can be found in the original post.
GRATEFUL DEAD - The Other Ones
2007-11-07 23:44:00 Well, we're not exactly deadheads, and we have problems with country music, but Greatful Dead deserve a special attention as unquestioned heroes of improvised music. But as it happens with King Crimson, the Net and the music world are full of Grateful Dead? So, once more, sort of homage, we decided to work a bit, gathering 29 versions of one of our Dead favourites, the suite The Other One. We choose one performance per year from 1967 to 1995, picking from the boundless Dead live recordings catalogue and, of course, providing a new cover art for the whole thing. As usual for the band?s items, the result it?s a 4CD-set! Obviously, the tracks differ a lot in terms of musical interplay and sound quality. But once more, nothing like this is available around?RESTORED EDITIONThe Twenty Nine Ones:CD1:1. 1967-10-22 - Other One - Winterland San Francisco (14:46)2. 1968-03-29 - Other One - Carousel Ballroom San Francisco (3:31)3. 1969-09-30 - Other One - Cafe Au Go-Go Ny (11:32)4. 1970-01-03 ...
