Beer Review Friday - Lumpy Gravy
2008-05-02 16:05:00 While not appealing in name, Lumpy Gravy is a good spring/summer brown ale that smells heavily of malts and chocolate. Smooth on the throat and pleasant on the taste buds, Gravy is refreshing and not too hoppy. Gravy comes from the fabulous Lagunitas Brewing Company, makers of the slap you in the mouth Maximus. Batata nu Shaak (Rasedar Aloo ki Sabzi/Potatoes in Tomato Gravy)
2008-04-10 10:31:00 A delicacy in a Gujarati household and in almost every traditional Gujarati function. The potatoes are simmered in spiced tomato gravy. My mother in law adds Kalonji seeds (onion seeds) and I notice that this adds to the flavor of the dish. The potatoes are so well cooked along with the spicy tomato gravy; that this process of cooking allows the little starch from the potatoes to thicken the gravy as well.

Beetroot Sambar (Beetroot in a spiced lentil gravy)
2008-03-19 11:56:00 Sambar is a very traditional dish served in almost every South Indian household. The lentil based gravy has many different variations in each region. The sambar gets its spice and tanginess from the tamarind extract and sambar powder. The spice powder called ?Sambar Powder? that is added is also atypical to every household. Each family, each region has their own subtle variation of this powder that it makes a huge difference to the way sambar tastes.

Out of hundreds of fans who auditioned Gravy landed the role, let's hope that he does the role justice. "Notorious" is set to begin filming on March 24 in New York, just two weeks after the anniversary of B.I.G., who was gunned down on March 9, 1997 in Los Angeles, a very senseless death if you ask me due to "Bickering Beef". According to sources, "Notorious" will also star Angela Bassett as Voletta Wallace, Derek Luke as Sean ?Diddy? Combs and Anthony Mackie, who will play Tupac Shakur. The film is being executively produced by Puff Daddy; it will show the chronicles of B.I.G?s career, his rise to the top and all events leading to his death. You could alter the spice level according to your taste. If you don't much care for the sweetness of the peas, you could add a little more red chilli powder or even add green chilli paste.

Doodhi/Lauki Kofta Curry (BottleGourd Dumplings) in Almond and Cream Gravy
2008-01-28 20:04:00 Kofta Curry is a very famous Indian curry, and goes through endless variations. Though paneer, cheese and vegetables seem to be the favorites, I also like the simple koftas made from lauki, called bottle-gourd in English. This elongated gourd vegetale is quite nutritious too, especially good for your eyes and skin, and due to the rich water content, it can add to the softness in the koftas. This one is a very low-fuss recipe that comes from my mom's kitchen, and unlike the restaurant-style Malai Koftas, these dudhi koftas require minimal preparation and cooking time, and yet can make any meal special. I modified my mom's recipe to pair almonds with bottle-gourd, and also make the curry more richer by using almond and cream in the gravy. The result was delicious, and I urge you to try this bottlegourd kofta curry to serve with your parthas or simple jeera rice!Ingredients1/2 mid-sized bottlegourd1 cup besan (chickpea flour)1/2 cup blanched almondsslivered almonds - for garnish1 med...

Indian Automobile Marketing Gravy Train; Where's PR in The Game?
2008-01-17 19:34:00 I am writing this fresh from my trip to the Auto Expo 2008 in New Delhi, and what a trip it turned out to be! New Delhi in all its winter glory, the excitement in the air made it easy to ignore the traffic nightmare and the smog. The parties, the awards, the models and the car models all made for a very heady trip.Tempted as I am to offer my opinion about the Nano, all I can proffer is that while it might be great PR for a prototype to get such turgid hype, I'd much rather reserve my comment when hype translates into sales as and when the rubber hits the road, one lakh or not. What I am not going to do is plug for the automobile manufacturers and their new models as that has been done to death but instead talk about the hype surrounding the automobile industry and the mechanics of its construct. The key orchestrators of this construct are the usual suspects, yes, the marketing types who practice every well honed trick in the book for eyeballs with their bevy of deep pockets that fund ...

Moist Roast Turkey with a Port Gravy
2007-12-26 18:01:00 I hope you all had a Merry Christmas, had a great time with family and are full to brimming. I had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends, ate way to much as you do. Played loads of games, bought my hubby a professional poker set for Chrimbo so finished the night off with poker and black jack, a Christmas filled with loads of laughs with kids having a wonderful time and big smiles on faces.I made 2 roast ducks, roast leg of lamb and a roast turkey for Christmas dinner. I have posted a recipe already for roast lamb so I thought I would post one for turkey and one for duck. I know you probably can't think of food now, but I thought I would post these for next year or other special occasions throughout the year. I only bought a 2.5kg turkey as I was doing other meats, so you will have to adjust cooking times if roasting a bigger bird. I stuffed mine with a fois gras fig stuffing, MMmmm, it was delicious but you can stuff yours with your favourite stuffing.Ingredients2.5kg Turke...

With winter here, a finger-licking good, different curry is most welcome. More so, very very simple.Off to Sra's 'Grindless Gravies' ...nice one to share! This is a 'curry on the bone', traditionally slow cooked for 3 hours or more, where the juices are slowly released & the flavours mature. KASHMIRI MEATBALLS IN A GRINDLESS GRAVY!
2007-12-08 10:04:00 "Red meat is not bad for you. Now blue-green meat, that?s bad for you!" Tommy Smothers Kashmiri Meatballs in GravyKashmiri cuisine or Wazwan has always held a fascination for me by way of how different it tastes. The other day I found an interesting sounding recipe for Mutsch Kashmiri Meatballs at A Mad Tea Party. After browsing the write-up, right up to the last 2 meatballs et al, the mind was made up. This I just had to try, & promptly put it on my agenda of interesting 'must-makes' in the near future! Hesitatingly, with fingers crossed, I even used mustard oil as the recipe suggested. I made this dish a couple of days ago...it was very different & pleasing in taste; surprisingly simple to make . The last 2 meatballs were indeed at a premium!!Love the palette of colours the ingredients made!Must admit that when I read about the 'Grindless Gravies' , SRA's blog event at 'When My Soup Came Alive', I thought, NAH, impossible!! Potato-Cabbage 'Grindless' Gravy
2007-12-05 04:41:00 I don't know how many of you have actually been over to Sra's blog to check out her unique event Grindless Gravies. I read through her instructions with great interest till I reached the line where it said 'It can't be all lentils or all curds...' Now that makes it really tough. So I put on my thinking cap.It was a weekend and I had nothing to do except cook. Opened the fridge and saw an entire cabbage sitting there. Its very difficult to cook for one and I really hate that. This cabbage made me feel lonely because whatever I make, its going to be extra, and eventually will go to waste. I sighed and took it out, and then rummaged through my potato-onion-garlic basket kept in the kitchen. Most of the potatoes had small shoots coming out of it, a sign that it has spent one too may days in the kitchen, waiting to be cooked. Without thinking much, I chopped up the cabbage, peeled and halved the potatoes and dunked both into my pressure cooker. Thus was born the idea behind this lip-...

2007-11-21 13:48:00 We've all been there before. It's that lull between the servings of candied yams and dried beets, the football game is a blowout, and you're a little buzzed of four bud lights.
