Ian McAvity: Is Greed Good for Gold?
2011-11-30 22:00:00 The Gold Report: Ian, you have been involved in the markets for 50 years. How much of today’s market is a repeat of a cycle you’ve seen before and how much is unique? Ian McAvity: Cyclical and secular trends haven’t really changed, but each one has slightly different characteristics. From 1982 to 2000, there was a powerful secular uptrend in the S&P 500. Since 2000, there’s been a secular bear trend, sideways or downtrend not dissimilar to 1966–1982 or 1932–1949 that may run through 2016 or 2018. The big change has been the utter corruption of Wall Street and that nearly 80% of the trading on the New York Stock Exchange now is being done by high-velocity . . . → Read More: Ian McAvity: Is Greed Good for Gold?

IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE: THE MARTYR
2011-10-28 15:00:00 Maybe we're a little biased about this one, but being the conscious rebels that we are over here at República, we couldn't help but to post what'll probably go down as the most unheard revolutionary Hip-Hop album of 2011--The Martyr by Immortal Technique. Politics, forgotten history, mental colonization, social upheaval, global unity, and even a guest appearance from Cornell West--it's all there and available for free download from the artist himself:

Lawyer Greed
2010-12-22 14:29:00 The other day I got a call from a California law firm, asking if I could help find a Chicago attorney who to take a deposition on a case they were handling. And the deposition was in three days. Huh??? The gist of the case is that a California resident got in to a fairly bad car accident in Chicago and a lawsuit was filed. The CA person went to an attorney's office in Los Angeles where they live. What should have happened is one of two things: 1. The lawyer should have said that they aren't licensed in Illinois and that since it's so far away the client should find someone else. 2. The lawyer should have said...

Loss Due To Greed.
2010-08-30 09:35:00 I am going to suffer huge loss on Monday as I have purchased around 300 shares of Suzlon and the results of this company are showing very disgusting figures. They show losses around 453 crores in Quarter 1 of this financial year due to forex losses. I am going to loose around Rs. 5000 tomorrow as the shares will tumble due to this news early in the morning itself. I should suggest all people to not to be too greedy, get what you get as on Friday, I have got decent profit on this company as I bought shares around Rs. 94 and I could have sold it around Rs. 102.http://workfromhome.blog.da-da.net

Worker?s Alienation and the Desolate, Lonesome Greed on Wall Street
2009-04-01 17:00:00 I have been following some of the latest developments on the current global crisis out of necessity. Although economics is not my favorite field, I must say that understanding some of the basic principles is paramount for survival in our modern capitalist world. Economics affects all of us and almost every part of our lives is influenced by economic decisions; at the same it also powers a feeling of helplessness and alienation. One becomes a pawn in a complex and confusing game where only few profit and the rest of us simply have to suffer. Seeing the market plunge or the cost of basic products rise I cannot do anything but accept those facts, though I feel completely left out and alienated from the process. It seems that I, and that includes probably most of us, am just a plaything caught up in a capricious whirlwind of economic disaster.Marx, building on Hegel?s concept, claims that modern labor has an alienating effect on each worker for various reasons, especially when it comes t...

Greed is not Good
2008-11-03 18:59:00 Over the past few weeks, discussions started by the Why BPEL Matters article have gone from mildly engaged to radically passionate, bringing some clarity to otherwise arcane subjects. The need for standards was clarified, and Bruce Silver wrote one of the best analysis of the BPM marketplace I've seen in a long time. While I am thoroughly enjoying this debate, some bloggers are going from passionate to disrespectful, and this is a line I am not willing to cross. In his latest article, Jean-Jacques Dubray, who describes himself as a SOA Enterprise Architect in a large financial institution, must be feeling the impact of the current financial crisis quite acutely, and went ballistic on myself and Intalio's CTO, Assaf Arkin, for no apparent reasons, accusing us of being ?by far the people that are the most responsible for the anemic state of BPM.? In my relatively short career (I am turning 35 tomorrow, and will have worked in the industry for less than 10 years), I have been accused...

BO, Tax Cuts And Greed
2008-11-01 01:23:00 I am selfish. You are selfish.  All human beings are selfish.  Show mw a person who claims not to be selfish, and all you either a fool or a liar. BO is campaigning on a promise to give some ninety-five percnet of tax payers a tax cut. Yet BO calls those who oppose his pie in the sky scheme selfish. Jake Tapper.  If opposition to paying yet higher taxes is selfish, BO is pandering to selfish voters by promising them a tax cut.    If BO were conststent, he would promise everybody a tax increase.  Then we could all be unselfish. Then BO simply is not very smart. [i]t’s that when we actually make sure that everybody’s got a shot – when young people can all go to college Aside from a windfall profit to colleges (BO supporters?) to what end do we send everybody to college. If something like twenty-two percent of all positions require a college education, if you send a hundred percent to college, there will still be only two-percent of positions need...

Big Tent? No, just greed.
2008-05-24 13:23:00 James Joyner: Something really strange is going on with the Libertarian Party. I mean, more so than usual — I wouldn’t bother to point out the obvious. Their annual convention is going on as I write. Some highlights: Bob Barr, most famous for opposing medical marijuana and for his role in the impeachment of Bill Clinton, is running to be its presidential nominee. So, possibly, is Tucker Carlson, the bowtied guy who filled the Pat Buchanan chair on Crossfire. Richard Viguerie, who has sent me approximately 6,000 emails since railing that Rudy McRomney wasn’t conservative enough at CPAC 2007, has just delivered the Keynote Address. The text is available at Richard Viguerie’s Conservative HQ.com. What in the world is going on here? These people aren’t even from the libertarian wing of the GOP, let alone honest-to-goodness, according to Hoyle big-L Libertarians. Yeah, no kidding. Mrs. Clinton, Gall, Greed or Sheer Stupidity?
2008-05-04 17:18:00 At a family birthday party yesterday, I made a tongue in cheek reference to Mrs. Clinton as “The Smartest Woman in the World.” My quip earned a disapproving glare from the honoree. Sheer stupity is not the only explanation for Mrs. Clinton. Gall and greed also work. Not does Mrs. Clinton tell business how much profit they should earn, she now telling individual investors that they are making too much money, Colin Barr, Fortune: Exxon Mobil’s (XOM) latest numbers continue to draw scrutiny. Exxon posted a 17% rise in first-quarter earnings, to $10.9 billion, or $2.03 a share, as the company benefited from the rise in energy prices. But shares fell 3% in afternoon trading, as the numbers missed Wall Street’s expectations and investors worried about an unusual production decline. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton indicated in an afternoon statement from her presidential campaign office that she’s enraged by the implication of Thursday’s selloff - that Exxon isn’t ma...

2008-04-16 00:00:00 Greed Killing -- Napalm Death . Financial manias are built by greed and fear: the two motivations driving the fluctuation of prices in all financial markets. When prices get greatly detached from fundamental valuations, the market is poised for a dramatic fall. McCain Blames Greed for Recession
2008-04-15 04:15:00 Here he is, folks. The conservative Republican candidate for president, blaming the private sector for the recession: Sen. John McCain this morning said “greedy” Wall Street investors are partly to blame for what he said is probably an economic recession the nation is now suffering. “There has to be a modification of the greedy behavior of some of these people,” he said, using the word “greedy” repeatedly in remarks to the Associated Press annual meeting at the Washington Convention Center today. Moron. As Freeper Aristotelian said: “Greed” doesn’t cause recessions. More often than not, failed governmental policies — e.g., monetary, regulatory, fiscal, etc. — are to blame for an economic setback. In this case, the blame lies with poor money management by the Fed — under both Greenspan and Bernanke — and the effects of federal rules on subprime mortgage lending — notably, the 1977 Community Reinvestm...

ENCOD: Thornton on Greed, fear and racism
2008-04-02 04:31:00 Clifford Thornton (Efficacy) developed his theory on the war on drugs as being based on three pillars: greed, fear and overt racism. (as presented in Vienna, see ENCOD BULLETIN 40 - Encod.org.) Greed is found among most people who deal in drugs, but also among those who fight them, either as doctors, policemen or politicians: in the past 4 decades, almost 1 trillion dollars have been spent on drug related law enforcement in the USA alone. Fear is spread by those who exaggerate the dangers of drugs, but deliberately ignore the basic reasons why people wish to take them: to increase positive experiences or reduce negative ones. And overt racism is what the war on drugs comes down to in practical terms: for instance in the US, where black people make up only 12 % of the population, they account for more than 50% of the prison population, 2/3 of whom are serving drug related sentences. If the white population were affected by drug prohibition in the same way, it would not last l...

U.S. economy in crisis as it pays price for greed
2008-03-18 06:18:00 And that is how even the most solid companies, Bank Hapoalim and Bank Leumi fell sharply Monday, along with Africa Israel and The Israel Corporation. And Teva and Israel Chemicals. That is the definition of a crash - everything falls without any distinction between good and bad, including government bonds. Real estate prices are dropping, and oil and commodity prices are skyrocketing. Exporters to the U.S. are hurting from the weak dollar, and a credit crisis is now choking economic activity. The Israeli economy is no longer expected to grow by 5% this year, but only by 3.5%. So maybe this is not really a panic, but just an intelligent and accurate appraisal of reality.

Moment of Greed
2008-02-26 02:17:00 So, I was flipping through the 999 channels I have and I saw Moment of Truth on FOX.Now, if you have watched literally anything on FOX the past week or two, you have seen the commercial for this episode of Moment of Truth: it's the one with the strikingly bleached-blonde skank between whose teeth you could park a small jet. Nothing too unusual about that, I hate to admit (as an American - not as a skank), but according to the booming, disembodied voice-over, "Her answers will destroy her marriage!"Now, you would think that with a tagline like that, you wouldn't need to see the show, right? Yeah, it's like 2008; if you think that, then you probably think Britney Spears is that cute little Mouseketeer who is gonna grow up to be hot.But before I start throwing stones, let me just shut this window.I usually do eschew such blatantly controversial TV - honestly. 2008-02-20 00:58:00 Being in network marketing has its' ups and downs - especially when first getting started. Once you have set goals and built up a team and reached those goals then what? I have done very well for myself. I have worked hard and talked to thousands of people to get an enormous number of people telling me NO before I was able to get to the YES's I have needed to reach my goals. So why is it so hard for me to just sit back and enjoy the fruits of my labor? I do know in part is because I want those I have brought into the business to reach the same level I am with my company. But the more I work with them the more money I make as well and I feel guilty.
