State of the Franchise: The Green Bay Packers
2008-05-16 13:42:00 At the start of the 2007 season, many were claiming that Brett Favre had made a mistake choosing to come back and play one more year. There was no denying he was once a great player, one of the best QB?s to ever play the game -- but it was common belief that he didn?t have it in him anymore.

Despite Love-Fest, Favre Not Best Ever
2008-03-07 02:29:00 I'm not going to write one of those sappy love letters to Brett Favre that I keep seeing all over the Internet. The fact is, I've never really been a Brett Favre fan. I've always considered him one of the most overrated quarterbacks in the NFL. In fact, I'm convinced that the Packers are better off without him. And trust me, there is a contingent in that organization that agrees; you don't accidentally post his retirement news on your website, then quickly accept his retirement without any effort to talk him out of it if you want him back. After all, his awful game against the Giants cost his team a trip to the Super Bowl. Yes, there was extremely bad weather (understatement of the year), but the game was nothing more than a continuation of Brett Favre's disappointing showings in big games. Since Mike Holmgren left, Favre has consistently come up small in big games. Yet somehow he continues to get a free ride. The media loves him. Note to NFL quarterbacks: be nice ...

Favre Hanging Up His Jock
2008-03-04 17:00:00 Normally, I wouldn’t probably write about a player retiring from any sport unless they had Boston ties. This retiring athlete doesn’t have those ties but is considered an icon in the world of the NFL. Somewhere in the land of the frozen tundra, there are men, women and children of all ages gently weeping right now, maybe even shedding some man-tears as news has broken that Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers has decided to call it quits after 17 years in the NFL. While Favre and the Packers haven’t officially announced the retirement, several media outlets are reporting it. ESPN has even decided to run a 2-hour special from 1 PM to 3PM today about his retirement. Favre will most likely remembered for numerous things throughout his illustrious NFL career but one game comes to mind for me. It was his performance in a Monday Night Football game, just a day after his father died. In that emotional game, where I am sure many man-tears around the country were shed, Favr...

2007 NFL Championship Weekend Preview
2008-01-19 20:39:00 NFC CHAMPIONSHIPNY Giants at GB PackersIt has been almost a decade since my dad and I got to watch a Packer game this important and I couldn't be more excited! When I look at Giants? newfound success it seems hard to pinpoint just because it?s so newfound and a little mysterious. When I look at their game against Dallas I find it necessary to mention the fact that they only ran 44 offensive plays in a game. That is ridiculously low. Their longest drive was eight plays long and ended in a punt. Their time of possession was 23:30. The Cowboys actually outgained them by over 100 yards. The G-Men were efficient on offense and scored touchdowns instead of field goals, with no turnovers. But they won with defense, especially that nasty pass rush that had Romo so rattled in the fourth quarter. The Packers can shut down everything the Giants did well in the Divisional Round. You think Charles Woodson and Al Harris won't eat Little Manning for dinner? Do you think the Packers will sacrifice...

Green Bay Packers Beat Minnesota Vikings - Surprising Performance
2007-11-12 21:09:00 I must admit how surprised I am that the Mike McCarthy-led Green Bay Packers are doing so well. I'll have to review the growth of the Packers coach. Running the showBalance roughs up, blanks border foeBy BOB McGINNbmcginn@journalsentinel.c-omPosted: Nov. 11, 2007Green Bay - Eleven years ago, when the Green Bay Packers were kicking butt and taking names en route to Super Bowl glory, they spanked the playoff-bound Minnesota Vikings, 38-10, in a display of dominating football at Lambeau Field that still can be remembered vividly for its utter ferocity.Ever since then, the Vikings always showed up at Lambeau in a foul mood, often played over their heads and generally raised holy hell against anyone wearing dark green and gold.On Sunday, another Green Bay-Minnesota game was played in the National Football League's smallest city, where the home team once again has realistic Super Bowl aspirations. And this time, with eerie parallels to the game in 1996, the Packers buried the Vikings...

Green Bay Packers preview: Offense
2007-10-12 01:19:00 First, make sure you visit our Green Bay Packers blog at Acme Packing Compnay. To the numbers! Traditional Metrics: Packers are 6th offensively with 362.2 yards per game. That's also where they are at per play, making them an efficient offense that moves the ball at a clip of 5.7 yards each down. They look a lot like the Redskins on 3rd down, converting an identical 44% of the time which is good for 12th in the league. A weakness, perhaps, as viewers from all overs saw last Sunday night, is their inability to hold on to the ball, losing six fumbles which is tied for first worst. Still, they've only fumbled the ball 8 times, three fewer times than Your Washington Redskins, and we've played one less game. Fumble recovery is an inexact science and teams shouldn't be rewarded more for recoveries than they should bear blame for lost ones. A fumble is a fumble is a fumble and whatever happens to the ball after it leaves your hand is largely a function of lady luck; the player who fu...

A Letter To: Vikings Fans Everywhere
2007-09-30 13:58:00 Dear Vikings fans both friends and mostly foes,In my opinion, it's not really a matter of if Brett Favre breaks Dan Marino's all-time TD record against you. It's more of a when he breaks the record against you this Sunday. I really wanted to see Favre break the record, however, to see him do it in the Metrodome will be strangely awesome.I'm also a little afraid. I ask you to reach down underneath that itchy, ugly, purple jersey you're wearing and dig deep down into your heart Sunday. I ask you that you please not boo Brett Favre when he breaks the record. While I don't see how anyone who loves football could not love Brett Favre, I however (living in ND) understand that Vikings' fans are particularly unfond of number 4.Please break the mold this weekend. Now, if they could figure out how to run the ball a little better we could be even better. Favre looked so sharp the last two weeks that I'm beginning to think that he's STILL not ready to retire. If he keeps this up and they go deep in to the playoffs, he isn't gunna want to leave! My second favorite team is whoever is playing the Vikings, so all in all I had a pretty good Sunday!
