The Amazing Green Flash
2007-11-15 18:56:00 I just found this post over at a blog called The Earth and Weather Space. This is an atmospheric optical phenomena that is quite rare which makes the Sun appear green, and in rare cases, even shoot a green ray into the sky. Check it out: quite a great picture! Wikipedia describes the green flash phenomena as:The reason for a green flash lies in refraction of light (as in a prism) in the atmosphere: light moves more slowly in the lower, denser air than in the thinner air above, so sunlight rays follow paths that curve slightly, in the same direction as thecurvature of the Earth. Higher frequency light (green/blue) curves more than lower frequency light (red/orange), so green/blue rays from the upper limb of the settingsun remain visible after the red rays are obstructed by the curvature of the earth. Green flashes are enhanced by atmospheric inversions, which increase the density gradient in the atmosphere, and therefore increase refraction. A green flash is more likely to be seen in...

Kristin Cavallari sports a bikini in her new movie "Green Flash"
2007-09-26 17:29:00 Yeah, a movie role, I can't believe it either! It has been awhile since Kristin has done anything productive but look hot. Now she has her chance to look hot in a movie and it could be the perfect match. One thing every movie needs is eye candy, so just play it safe and give her a few lines. The Green Flashlight That Thinks It's An Outlet
2007-05-29 22:48:00 I've covered several solar gadgets here on GO, but it's important to promote the value of some kinetic energy-based products as well. One such cool device that I found while stumbling the green web is the Eco LED Flashlight. Instead of having the shakes to produce energy (like most other eco-friendly lights out there) this product uses a zip cord. Simply pull the cord for about a minute -- and voila! -- you've got enough light for nearly half an hour. Pull longer, and that time limit goes up and up -- to almost 45 minutes. Thankfully, the flashlight also comes with a car charger so your savings in batteries don't go towards physical therapy for your arm. Powering directly will yield you almost 3.5 hours of use. Did I mention it has a swivel head? The good times don't stop there. Not only can all that physical exertion give you enough light to reenact The Blair Witch Project, but the power stored can also charge up any number of devices. The Eco LED comes with ...

Green Flash: Earth Day To-Do List
2007-04-23 18:06:00 Ever since we saw An Inconvenient Truth we’ve been feeling a little environment-obsessed. So in honor of Earth Day yesterday, we’ve made a little to-do green list. 1. Upbraid socially irresponsible family members for their refusal to recycle. Check. 2. Support the Carbon Fund for Europe, which is partnering with the European Investment Bank to buy carbon credits for environmental projects in underdeveloped nations. 3. Offset carbon. See our previous post about carbon dioxide offsetting programs, or check out this Web site. 4. Ride Eurostar. They’ve just announced plans that by 2012 they will reduce emissions by 25 percent per passenger.
