Norton Dealt
2008-05-05 21:49:00
Greg Norton, who was DFA’d after the callups of Jeff Clement and Wladimir Balentien, was traded today to the Atlanta Braves for cash considerations and or a PTBNL. This should be a much better situation for Norton, where he’ll almost certainly receive daily at bats in the National League style of play.  As far as these player-to-be-named-later ...
Braves Acquire Greg Norton
2008-05-05 15:57:00
The Braves just put out a press release; they've acquired Greg Norton from the Mariners for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Norton, 35, certainly didn't do anything wrong with the Mariners.  He was 7 for 16 with a couple of doubles before they DFA'd him.  He's a solid switch-hitting bench bat, a nice pickup for Frank Wren.  We might be able to give Norton a mulligan for his off-year in '07; he was coming off knee surgery and finished the year with elbow surgery.

I just mentioned that Brad Wilkerson was on his way out, and now John Hickey of the Seattle P-I is reporting that Jeff Clement and Wladimir Balentien will indeed be joining the Seattle Mariners in Cleveland for Wednesday’s ballgame.  As I type Geoff Baker updates his blog that both Wilkerson and Greg Norton have been designated for ...

Odds and Ends: Colon, Clark, Gagne
2007-12-02 16:44:00
Random rumors, let's round 'em up. How about Bartolo Colon to the Mets?  David Lennon notes that Omar Minaya sold the farm to acquire him in 2002 as the Expos' GM. Scott Lauber says Aaron Rowand is insisting on a five-year deal.  He adds that the Phils have interest in Geoff Jenkins but he might be too expensive.  Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller are considered untouchable, so don't look for the Tigers to make any big trades. Patrick Saunders runs down some free agents the Rockies may consider for the back end of their rotation: Tony Armas, Matt Clement, Steve Trachsel, Josh Fogg, Jason Jennings, Jon Lieber, Mark Redman, Brett Tomko, and Kip Wells. The Rays may go after Tony Clark, in large part because they're seeking leadership.  Marc Topkin agrees, and also rattles off Geoff Jenkins, Brad Wilkerson, Cliff Floyd, Mike Lamb, Mark Sweeney, Corey Koskie, and Greg Nortion as other possibilities. It's expected that Eric Gagne will not accept Boston's offer o...

News: Greg Norton, starting over Jonny Gomes for the second time in three days, went 0-for-4 while everyone else in Tampa Bay’s lineup reached base at least twice Sunday.Impact: Manager Joe Maddon must still think it’s 2006.
