Greg Ryan fired
2007-10-23 06:00:00 By VictorM: Back in September 28, 2007 I said that Greg Ryan, the coach of the US Women's soccer team, should be fired. Today, I was granted my wish.Back then I said: Should Greg Ryan, the USA coach, be fired? Yes! Not because he's a bad coach. In fact, his record with the USA is excellent. But this move [replacing Hope Solo with Brianna Scully] justifies my belief that national team coaches should be replaced with certain frequency. The reason being that since they are not the ones dealing up close with new players, like club coaches do, they tend to revert back to the ones they are most familiar with. This was Bruce Arena's downfall when he selected the men's team for 2006, and the team proved too slow and too old for the task. And it was the case now with Ryan.Kristine Lilly, at age 36, and Briana Scully, also at age 36, wonderful as they were in their prime, have no business still being part of the US national team. There a lot of wonderful young talent out there. It's time...

U.S. Women's Soccer Coach Greg Ryan sacked? [Digg]
2007-10-23 05:13:00 Looking at the developments after the recently concluded 2007 Women's Soccer World Cup, it doesn't take a lot to get booted out of the team. Well... actually the one thing that got Soccer coach Greg Ryan "booted out" of the team was the one thing that probably cost the U.S. Women's Soccer team a shot at the 2007 World Cup!

2007-10-23 03:24:00 Looking at the developments after the recently concluded 2007 Women's Soccer World Cup, it doesn't take a lot to get booted out of the team. Well... actually the one thing that got Soccer coach Greg Ryan "booted out" of the team was the one thing that probably cost the U.S. Women's Soccer team a shot at the 2007 World Cup!U.S. National Soccer authorities have concluded recently that they will not be renewing Coach Ryan's contract and would let it expire till the end of the year. Coach Ryan owns an impressive win-lose record of 45-1 since taking over the team coach post in 2005.One question I have though, hasn't anybody thought of the possibility that coach Ryan threw the game against Brazil? Sounds really far off but anything is possible!Great Soccer Gear find it below:adidas Men's +F30.7 TRX Firm Ground Soccer Shoeadidas Men's Copa Mundial Soccer Shoeadidas Glider Soccer Ball White/RedManchester United (mens)adidas Predator Beckham Shinguards
U.S. Soccer: Ryan Sacked!
2007-10-23 00:00:00 CHICAGO -- Greg Ryan is out as the U.S. women's soccer coach less than a month after his top-ranked team lost in the World Cup semifinals following a contentious goalie switch. U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati said that Ryan will not return as coach on a conference call Monday. Ryan was 45-1-9 since taking over in early 2005, but that one loss -- in his only major tournament -- overshadowed the rest of his tenure. With the Americans favored to win their third World Cup, Ryan decided before their match with Brazil to make a change in goal, replacing Hope Solo with veteran Briana Scurry. Solo had allowed two goals in four World Cup starts and had a shutout string of nearly 300 minutes. Scurry, the goalie for the 1999 World Cup champs, had beaten Brazil two straight times. The U.S. lost 4-0 and had to settle for third place, and Solo ripped Ryan for the move.**********My take? Good, he deserved this. What he pulled was a joke and ultimately, in my opinion, cost our women...

Something doesn't add up with Greg Ryan's keeper decision
2007-10-02 15:11:00 It's hard to believe that Greg Ryan did something as dumb as change his goalkeeper going into the semifinals of the World Cup. Especially considering that the keeper that had started and played every minute of every match in the tournament leading up to that stage was not injured. Surely a coach
