Growing up with Kevin Arnold
2009-07-27 21:00:00 Growing up is never easy. You hold on to things that were. You wonder what’s to come. But that night, I think we knew it was time to let go of what had been, and look ahead to what would be. Other days. New days. Days to come. The thing is, we didn’t have to ...

Brainwashed by fairy tales
2009-06-29 05:14:00 As children, we are spoon fed fairy tales. This world of fantasy and make-believe becomes our reality as we listen closely waiting to find out what happens to the lady in distress.
The identity crisis
2009-06-08 17:08:00 I love to overanalyze anything and everything … A simple statement can become the focus of my attention for hours on end. I find it both fascinating and crippling that I am able to look at the most straightforward topic and make it completely complex.
Sweetie Saturday - Growing Up Too Fast Edition
2009-05-30 14:52:00 This week for Show and Tell, Sweetie decided to take her "telephone" she made out of 2 plastic cups and a long string. (Kids are to bring something they made, something that was made for them, something from nature, or something that helps describe them for Show and Tell. I'm pretty sure Sweetie is the only kid who usually does this.) To demonstrate her toy, she picked S____ to listen at the other end of the phone. S____ is a cute boy who told Sweetie towards the beginning of the school year (as well as another girl in the class) that he wants to marry her. Obviously, Sweetie likes him back. What did you say into the phone to him?Hi S______. I love you.(I'm told that everyone then laughed - including S_____ and the teachers.)------------------------------------There's another boy in Sweetie's class who's been picking on her a bit. He's one of the few kids she's labeled as a "bad boy." She often plays "Super (Sweetie)" at recess "with" these boys - as in, she's the super hero ...

There Was No Fashion Camp When I Was Growing Up!
2008-08-20 05:49:00 I was in my 4th year of college working towards a marketing degree before I realized that I didn't want to be a business major. My passion was fashion! So I quit the university and jetted off to design school in L.A. Better late than never right? So naturally, I think a "fashion camp" for young girls who are trying to figure things out for themselves is a great idea, especially if fashion is a strong and undeniable interest.

Growing up right before my eyes
2008-07-12 14:00:00 We’ve spent a lot of time at the pool this summer. We got pool passes and dang it we’re going to use them. In June we went to Chicago to visit my mom. While the kids were doing their very favorite activity ever in Chicago…swimming in the pool at Grandma’s apartment… (I know, you’d think it would be Navy Pier or Shedd’s Aquarium or even Great America. Nope. Their favorite thing is Grandma’s pool.) So anyway, while in the pool at Grandma’s house, Caleb got brave enough to swim on his own…without a noodle or holding on for dear life to either the edge of the pool or a family member. By the second day he had this swimming thing down. He wasn’t an Olympic swimmer or anything, but he got from point A to point B and he was pretty darn proud of himself. When we got home and headed back out to our city pool he kept at it. Every day he went a little bit farther in to the deep end, practicing his new swimming skills. He&rsquo...

Lionel RIchie On What Nicole Richie Was Like Growing Up
2008-06-10 00:59:00 Photos: Getty Images Lionel Richie won a TV Land Icon award over the weekend. I have no idea what that means in this case. For his videos? TV Land is weird. Anyway, he says one of his greatest triumphs was adopting and getting through raising Nicole Richie. Because you know she was a straight-up pain in the nuts. 'Forget about surviving 40 years in the music business. Just surviving 27 years of Nicole Richie has been a struggle-and-a-half, I want to tell you," Lionel kidded. "I stand here as a survivor, I want you to know, for all the parents out there.'' Nicole had a problem with heroin, got arrested for DUI, served a short jail sentence, and then gave herself an image makeover by squirting out a kid. Oh, and the worst part for Lionel - she hung out with Paris Hilton and even did a show with her. Ugh. Lionel must have looked into seeing if he could return her to his drummer that gave her up. Lionel says it's a whole new household at Nicole's place, with baby Harlow and bab...
The Boy is Growing Up?
2008-06-03 13:35:00 Dexter spent quite a bit of time this spring going through a fairly horrid - and fairly typical - gawky stage. His feet were too big for his body, his chest was too big for his body, his rear looked high, his head looked small, and his ears resembled satellite dishes. Add to this the fact ...
The Sony Digital Reader and a Growing up Green Giveaway
2008-05-30 10:01:00 In recent headline news folks around here know I'm pretty excited about the Sony Digital Reader I was sent to review. I'd seen these jobbies (that's a word me mum uses--it means "thingamabobs" or "doohickies") over at the bookstore but I thought, "I hate reading books on my Palm so why would I spend money on a digital reader?" I didn't go into the experience with what you'd call an open mind. But I have to say it's pretty slick. I mean slick. First of all I have to point out that Sony's reader is one of the less-expensive models you can buy and though I haven't looked at any of the others out there for comparison with the Sony reader you can load up to 160 books and the filing system has been very comfortable. What I mean is that you can easily flip around between books and bookmarks and places you've been reading with ease which kind of surprised me--I expected it to be harder to navigate, like my Palm. It's not good if you're trying to search for a particular passage...

Growing Up
2008-05-10 03:35:00 I've been transferring a lot of old videos. As I watched them I had to laugh. I looked young and had much more hair.I am surprised that anyone took me seriously in those days. It must have been my young man's determination. We've come a long way baby. I am happy to have been that young person in those videos, even with my dire need of a haircut. It reminds me that we are always growing.Like a big beautiful tree, you look your best when you are older.

She covers everything from greening up during your pregnancy, to healthy eating for babies and kids, to managing your adolescents. I liked the section on Green Pediatrics, which covers all kinds of health issues and how to work with your doctor to manage your child's health. It includes discussions on vaccines, allergies, weight management and more.Overall, I found it very thought provoking and interesting. It offers lots of practical ideas for going greener with your ...

Growing Up Nate - Can?t Sleep, Clown Will Eat Me
2008-04-11 20:11:00 Let’s face it, no one really likes clowns. It’s amazing that they’re still around, haunting us, stepping on our feet with their comically over-sized shoes and exceeding the occupancy limits of compact cars in a flagrant disregard for the law. My little girl is growing up
2008-03-16 16:42:00 Ah, they grow so fast! Even faster than their human counterparts ): Bindy will be 6 months old next month and wow how time has flown by. She's growing into quite a little beauty though and I'm excited to see how she will do in the show ring. She'll likely go live with my handler for training in about a month or so. I'll miss the little sprite, but I know she'll bond really well with Judy and have a great time struttin' her stuff in the ring. This breeding was such a great match that we'll be repeating it probably this spring or early summer!.

I'm not ready.....
2008-02-04 01:34:00 The emptiness of the room was short lived. I had really only a few short moments to stand absorbing the vastness of the space. Void the result of my dismantling. Piece by piece, screw by screw. Zoë helped with the project with what little time she had before leaving for school. Zane took over when she left ably carrying out the bulk of the work as in Zoë's absence he was senior. Good fortune for Zia that there had been a two hour school delay otherwise she would have been entrusted to tasks she probably is not ready for. But she cheerfully assisted when asked carrying things here and there and generally keeping the twins occupied and out of the way. Generally, I say because more than once I had to inform Zella that she was holding the hammer backwards or ask Zander to please bring back the screws. It was a family project. Rightly so, I suppose as our subject had directly affected each one of them. Comfort.... W...

Watching my son grow and growing-up with him
2008-02-02 16:59:00 Seeing my son grow a little taller and smarter each day is such a delight. How I wish that he remains a little boy forever, but that is not so. He will inevitable grow, mature and leave the nest.Incidentally, I chance upon this poem written by Debra D. Barone, entitled ?To My Grown-Up Sons,? and I thought I should share it with you. It reminded me to take always the time to enjoy and cherish each moment with my son, watch him grow, teach him about life, and grow-up with him. I do not want to retire sighing and regretting that I missed those special moments, that I should have taken the time. Here is the poem, and have your say afterwards:My hands were busy through the day I didn't have much time to play The little games you asked me to I didn't have much time for you. I'd wash your clothes, I'd sew and cook, but when you'd bring your picture book And ask me please to share your fun, I'd say: "A little later, son". I'd tuck you in all safe at night and hear yo...
