Leaving on a Jet Plane
2008-09-15 21:40:00 I apologize, dear reader, as this blog has been on auto pilot lately. A lot has been going on in my world, both personal and professional, and it’s still taking a lot of time and energy to get sorted out. The good news is, I’ll be back at the helm soon. I’m heading down to CJU ...

Guy Kawasaki launches muslim.alltop.com
2008-05-09 02:31:00 Guy Kawasaki, startup guru, author and former Apple PR mastermind, launched Alltop.com in March. It’s kind of a localized portal of online websites pertaining to particular niches and targeted towards those who don’t use RSS. As Guy describes it: A good metaphor is that Alltop is an “online magazine rack” that displays the ...

Is the World Coming to an End? Guy Kawasaki and Steve Ballmer on the Same S
2008-03-13 10:57:00 I watched an hour-long video of an interview that Guy Kawasaki, the Apple guy, did with Steve Ballmer, the Microsoft guy at a Microsoft event, no less, called Mix 08. It was a painful dance to watch Guy interview Steve and ask a lot of really difficult questions, many of which Steve struggled to answer. ...

Steve Ballmer with Guy Kawasaki at Mix 2008
2008-03-10 06:45:00 Guy Kawasaki sat down with Steve Ballmer at Mix 2008 conference and asked the soft ball, why Microsoft wanted to purchase Yahoo!. Ballmer said it was a zero sum game and that on-line advertising is key and search is part of that equation, hence the need to accelerate the process of their underdog status in that space. In addition, Ballmer spoke about Facebook, the pitch for getting people to work at Microsoft and other parts of the company. There was also a Q&A portion. Watch Steve Ballmer and Guy Kawasaki Keynote

Mix08 - Keynote 2 - Guy Kawasaki & Steve Ballmer
2008-03-06 15:43:00 The second keynote was a one-hour interview format between Guy Kawasaki from Apple and Steve Ballmer from Microsoft. There seemed to be friendly banter between the two of them, and they both seemed to enjoy the session. He is a ham, and plays to the crowd and pulls you into the conversation. What impressed me most was the breadth and depth of knowledge he had on technical and business aspects of Microsoft's products, services, activities, and acquisitions. I recommend going to the Mix web site, downloading the video for the session, and watching it. It was both informative and entertaining. There were a lot of questions that were thrown out, so I tried to get the gist of the questions and answers as quickly as I could. Here are my notes. I didn't get all the questions from Guy and the audience, but I think I got the ones that were most interesting. Q: Why do you wanna buy Yahoo?A: Advertising on the Internet will be the next super-big thing. Yahoo is a way to accelerate...

Another review of RULES FOR REVOLUTIONARIES (by Guy Kawasaki)
2007-10-20 16:51:00 Next to Gladwell's "Tipping Point" & "Blink" (I reviewed those books earlier in this blog) - Kawasaki book "Rules for Revolutionaries" definately makes my top 5 list. Innovation is hard - people resist change by nature, and Kawasaki's 10 steps are a great guide to moving forward - and learning from failures. The 10 steps (quotes taken from the book): Step 0: You need to make a mantra. Good examples of mantras: •FedEx = peace of mind •Nike = authentic athletic performance • Greenbush Labs - Education everywhere Step 1: Kill the Cash Cow Like Macintosh killed Apple II. The advertising business has some cows that need to be killed. The Internet is going to kill them. Step 2: Jump to the Next Curve Don’t improve by 10%, improve by 10 times. Jump the advancement curve. Go to the ultimate next level. Step 3: Don’t Worry, Be Crappy You ship, and then you test. Version 1.0 means never having to say you’re sorry. Don’t ship crap. Ship revoluti...
Start spreading Truemors with Guy Kawasaki
2007-10-11 19:55:00 Recently, Guy Kawasaki introduced me to his new entrepreneurship venture called Truemors. He explained how the goal with Truemors is to democratize and spread information. First, from a ?citizen journalist/editor? perspective it enables people to ?tell the world??within the bounds of good taste and the law anyway. Second, from a reader perspective, it puts you ...
Bootstrapping
2007-07-31 06:42:00 The Art of Bootstrapping by Guy Kawasaki Someone once told me that the probability of an entrepreneur getting venture capital is the same as getting struck by lightning while standing at the bottom of a swimming pool on a sunny day. This may be too optimistic. Let’s say that you can’t raise money for whatever reason: You’re ...
