Memory bandwidth metrics for video processing The memory bandwidth required by a video processor (or by software running on a programmable processor) is an important concern for system designers. When comparing designs, it is therefore important to consider memory bandwidth. Engineers use a variety of metrics to describe memory bandwidth. Common metrics are discussed below. The term ...

Flash Video adds H.264, metadata support
2007-08-23 00:38:00
Niall Kennedy has the news on all sorts of goodies in the beta version of Flash Player: Yesterday Adobe released a beta version of its Flash Player browser plugin capable of decoding H.264 video, AAC audio, and associated rich metadata. Web browsers utilizing Flash 9.0.60.184 or higher will now be able to playback content encoded for digital television, iPods, and high-end mobile phones using international standards. Adobe's support for these standardized audio and video codes will streamline the production process for desktop and web video, hopefully reducing time-to-market and opening more video catalogs to online viewers. A beta version of the new player, Flash Player 9 Update 3 Beta 2 "Moviestar", is available from Adobe Labs. I'm hoping this means we can just encode for H.264 (aka MPEG4) and have it play with Flash player widgets, without having to do "FLV" anymore. Flash Player now supports 3GPP time text tracks, iTunes metadata ("ilst" atom), and chap...

Sanyo's Xacti CG65 H.264 Video Camera
2007-03-13 14:43:00
Sanyo's Xacti CG65 H.264 Video Camera After a Xacti 2.0 teaser campaign initiated last week, Sanyo finally got to the business of releasing their latest Xacti, the DMX-CG65. The first of their new Xacti II cams maintains the pistol-grip profile the Xacti name is synonymous with only this time with Sanyo's new Pure Fourth III image processor and optical image stabilization to shore-up the 6 megapixel CCD and 5x optical zoom lens. It can also record H.264 quality video to SDHC cards -- that's about 6 hours at the highest quality settings (640 x 480, 30fps, 3Mbps) when fitted with an 8GB card. Available in Japan at the end of April for about ¥50,000 or $426.
MKV (H.264 codec) to AVI (XviD codec) conversion
2007-03-04 01:23:00
As I promised earlier, I will post about how to convert an MKV container file with an H.264 encoded video and AC-3 encoded audio to an AVI container file with an XviD encoded video and, optionally, 2-channel MP3 encoded audio. The MKV format makes a very good distibuting format, with the ability to have multiple audio streams and multiple subtitling streams, combined with the H.264 codec for high quality video. Unfortuntely, if you're like me, you have a DVD player that isn't able to play such files but can play XviD or DivX encoded video in AVI files (like my OPPO OPDV971H Player ) hooked up to a big-screen and an home theater audio system, but would wish to watch (or invite others to watch) that greatest and latest video that you've found on the internet, that's only available as an MKV file! (I may have some errors in here. Feel free to comment to help with details or ask questions) read more
The Chronicles of Narnia - 1080p H.264

The Chronicles of Narnia : The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (IMDb) (Binsearch collection) An incredibly visual feast of a film that just comes alive in this 1080p H.264 transfer. Not only that but you get the beautiful OAR 2.35:1 scope to boot. If you have not played full bitrate H.264 before, you will need a pretty fast CPU (Core 2 Duo or faster) and a good graphics card. MPC and CoreAVC might also come in handy.
