Haggis, Black Pudding, White Pudding
2008-04-08 09:34:00 Haggis, a traditional Scottish dish, is - according to Wikipedia - made of the following ingredients: sheep's heart, liver and lungs, minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices and salt, mixed with stock, and traditionally boiled in the animal's stomach for about three hours. Today the dish is prepared in a casing rather than an actual stomach. MacSween (picture, right) sells cooked haggis, and we only need to remove it from the outer plastic bag, wrap in foil and re-heat it.Traditionally served with neeps and tatties (cooked turnips and potatoes), haggis is always present on Burns Supper, when Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns, is commemorated. In Jakarta, you can find it in St. Andrews Ball. I can't remember seeing it in Highland Gathering, but check the chief's tent, probably they have it. Or try to make it using BBC recipe. We had our haggis at Marriott Dalmahoy last weekend for breakfast (!) and it was superb.Black pudding is a sausage made by cooking blood (usually fro...

Why is Haggis so Famous?
2008-03-27 07:04:00 Haggis is a favourite English schedule that is most related with the period Burn’s Dinner during the hebdomad of Jan 25 when the National Bard is commemorated. Traditionally served with mashed “neeps and tatties” (yellow turnips or turnip and potatoes), it crapper also be attended by another lateral dishes. Somewhat reminiscent of north dweller scrapple, ...

Paul Haggis wears ?orange ribbon? expressing solidarity for terrorists at G
2008-02-27 19:01:00 But don’t question his patriotism… WPost Out on the red carpet, Paul Haggis (the director whose ?Crash? won Best Picture in 2006) said he didn?t know what accounts for all these deeply dark, brooding, troubled films. But isn?t it obvious, he asked, flashing an orange ribbon on his lapel. Orange, why orange? ?It?s Guantanamo,? his ...
Who's afraid of the big bad haggis?
2008-01-21 06:48:00 BBC reports, "Scots ask US to lift haggis ban .Haggis, traditionally eaten on Burns night, is banned in the USThe Scottish Government is considering asking the United States to rethink its ban on haggis imports. Imports of Scotland's iconic dish were banned by the US in 1989 in the wake of the BSE scare because it contains offal ingredients such as sheep lungs. Only an offal-free version of haggis is available in the US. The move would be backed by renowned haggis maker Macsween, which believes the American market could be a very lucrative one. A Scottish Government spokeswoman said it "will consider engaging the US government on its haggis export ban, if there is popular support for such a move from within our world famous haggis producers". The dish is traditionally served with neeps and tatties on Burns night. It usually contains ingredients such as sheeps lungs, liver and heart minced with onion. It is boiled in the animal's stomach. A spokesman for the US Department of Agricu...

Tom Moody - Haggis Hurler Extraordinaire
2008-01-19 14:05:00 One of the great things about summer in Australia is the cricket and although I don't watch it too much (who has time for that), I like to listen to it on the ABC. While I really like Kerry O'Keefe, there are many other very knowledgeable pundits who put out over the air waves. This week they have had Tom Moody, a very tall former test cricketer, former Sri Lanka coach and currently coach with the Western Warriors. As they do with the rambling form of commentary, they got onto tangential areas, namely haggis hurling. Apparently during the 1989 tour of the UK, the Australians played a match against Scotland (don't laugh) it wasn't rained out. While they were in the land of the haggis, Tom and some of his cricket buddies resplendent in kilts were guests at a highland games. While there he competed in the haggis hurling competition and threw a haggis 230 feet into the car park, denting a car and taking the unofficial world record. The snooty Scots don't recognise him as the world r...

A Use For Left Over Haggis
2007-07-18 19:40:00 Haggis is a funny thing. Providing you lie (or at least avoid saying anything) about what it contains, you’ll find that almost everyone who tries it absolutely loves it. However, mention the list of ingredients, and you’ll find most people run away from it, screaming. I’ve always loved the stuff and, since I started buying it from ...

Paul Haggis Hired to Polish 'Bond 22' Script
2007-06-14 14:44:00 Paul Haggis Hired to Polish 'Bond 22' Script Posted May 23rd 2007 1:01PM by Ryan StewartFiled under: Action & Adventure, Drama, Romance, Deals, Sony, Fandom, James Bond, Remakes and Sequels, Bondcast, Daniel Craig Why mess up a good thing? The trio that made Casino Royale work so well is now in place for the sequel. We already brought you news that the script for Bond 22 has been turned in by original scripters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, but now comes word that, just like last time, Paul Haggis is being brought on board to inject his own voice and do some re-working. The LA Times speculates that with all of the projects he has going on, including editing In the Valley of Elah, Haggis might have asked for a hefty raise to do this again, but I personally can't imagine that it's really a chore -- who wouldn't want to take a more or less finished Bond script and add their own changes to it? The Times goes pretty far in giving Haggis credit for the success of the last Bond fil...

scotland : with scotch and haggis
2006-07-21 16:19:00 I have just passed over Baltic Sea. With clear sky, at 10,688 feet, I could see a coastline of western Europe through my right window and coastline of Scandinavia on left on the navigation map of Emirates flight. Warsaw is ahead of me with Minx on the left side. Eastern Europe and Scandinavia have so far eluded me in my goal of touching diverse geographical places around the globe but my forging business relationship with Hungarian company at EDTA meeting gives me a hope to enter Eastern European block. Now I am past Warsaw, and heading towards Black sea piercing between Kiev on the left side and Budapest and Bucharest on right side. With my seat video monitor no working; there is no better way than to continue to pen my thoughts about my scotalnd trip. When I learnt about Edinburgh being just an hour from Glasgow, I was happy. Else, another visit to the Glasgow city wouldn?t have evoked much passion. Opportunity to escape from Dubai?s desert heat to smell Scotland?s rain soaked clou...
