Pet care cat hairball prevention might alarm the cat owner if it becomes serious enough. The hairball may become stuck in the throat and cause extreme discomfort until the hairball dislodges. Many cats encounter this problem due to excessive grooming. If the hair of the cat is long, it may become more serious than that of a shorthair cat.Hairballs lodge in the intestines and cause blockage, therefore causing the inability to urinate or have a bowel movement. In this case, administering medications may be required. Pet care cat hairball treatments are sometimes very effective in reducing the blockage and eliminating the hairball problem. Hairballs are sometimes the result of an underlying health problem. If the problem does not clear up with medications, surgery is the other option. One way to prevent hairballs is with daily brushing to remove loose hair. If your cat is accustomed to grooming by you, the cat will show affection when the job is completed. Regular grooming provides for ...

That’s what I presented my mistress with at 5:15 this morning (underneath the bed, approximately right under her pillow). Yes. I am so thoughtful. It got her right out of bed (okay, it took a few extra coughs and a high-pitched mew to really get her going, but she finally got up.) She only gave me that tasty gooey stuff in the tube, while the other three got a bit of kibble in their bowls, but that’s okay. I wasn’t really that hungry anyway. Now she’s turned on the gas fire so I can lounge in front of it and warm up. It’s freezing outside! Snow fell all night long and everything’s covered again. Well, back to bed for all of us now. She’s still up though. And the master, you ask? He slept right through it. Blanche

What is the condition of hairballs? Hairballs result from accumulations of hair in the digestive tract. Cats are fastidious cleaners, spending a great deal of time grooming their hair. When a cat grooms, its rough tongue pulls loose, dead hair from the coat. This hair is then swallowed and can accumulate in the cat?s stomach and becomes a source of irritation. Some hair may be passed from the cat?s body in the feces or could be coughed up in the form of a hairball. What are the signs of hairballs? Some typical signs of hairballs in cats are: gagging dry coughing from deep inside (strange noises made through the nose and throat, almost like a muted cough) occasional vomiting eating small quantities of food at a time weight loss, or even a complete loss of appetite constipation regurgitation of undigested food right after it is eaten Adding high fiber levels (soluble & insoluble) to the diet helps to facilitate the transition of hair through the gastrointestinal tract. Dear Anita,My Persian cat seems to throw up a hairball about every-other day. They are so disgusting. Is there a way that I can get her to stop this gross behavior?Joyce,Jacksonville, FLP.S. - The hairball's are staining my carpet. I think it is from the dye in the food I am feeding her, how can I remove these spots?Answer:Hi Joyce,Hairballs are one of the most common complaints for people that own cats. A hairball is a bunch of hair that your cat has ingested while cleaning itself. The hair is not very easy for them to digest and collects in your cats digestive tract. There are only two ways for your cat to get rid of the hair;throw the hairball up along with food material, orloosen and breakdown the hairball until it passes out in the feces.Symptoms of hairballs are vomiting and gagging soon after eating, coughing and gagging until the hairball comes out (it may take several attempts for it to come out). To ease your cats symptoms and the mess it can make, there are several produc...
