In Halla Bol, director Raj Kumar Santoshi tackles corruption in politics and the film industry. Corruption is one of his popular themes and he has done justice to it in many of his previous films, including Damini, Ghayal, Khakee and Family. While Halla Bol's storyline is interesting, the director is let down by an indifferent script that renders the film a hit-and-miss affair. The movie focuses on the rise to stardom of a promising actor, Ashfaaq (Devgan), who is part of a street theatre group. The leader of the group, Siddhu (Pankaj Kapoor), is a reformed convict who uses drama and theatre to highlight socially relevant issues to the public.

Raj Kumar Santoshi is back with his style of fighting with corruption, fundamentalism, bad political and social problems. Halla Bol is a good film after “Page 3” made on the social problems faced by common people in India. Though, Halla Bol goes slightly here and there during the beginning but finally it catches our attention to the point it wants to convey. Acting wise this film is average and most of the actors have given normal performance, here this film looks weak as compared to “Page 3” which was more realistic.Main actors like Ajay Devgan, Pankaj Kapoor and Vidya Balam are either average or slightly above average. The major attraction of the movie is number of social messages which it conveys. Story of the Halla Bol looks to be taken from the real life episode like Jassica lal case, increasing attacks of fundamentalist forces and story of Khan Heroes. Rajkumar Santoshi’s ?Halla Bol’ which stars Ajay Devgan, Vidya Balan and Pankaj Kapur was supposed to release alongside Aamir Khan’s Taare Zamen Par and Anees Bazmee’s Welcome on the 21st of December, but has now been pushed back. Yup, the film will now release on the 11th of January alongside Mukta Arts’ Bombay To Bangkok and My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves, and most people are saying that Santoshi was scared that TZP and Welcome would be too much competition. That’s strange, since Halla Bol itself is generating some good prerelease hype! The film is being promoted with a series of street play contests being held around India, and everyone who’s seen rushes of the film have nothing but god things to say about it. after success of “Saawariya” and “Om Shanti Om” at the box office, director Rajkumar Santoshi is playing safe by postponing the release of his new movie “Halla Bol” by two weeks.Though the director was out of the country when the producers took the decision to shift the film’s release, Santoshi is all for it as “Taare Zameen Par” and “Welcome” were to be released on the same day“Since there’re two other big films scheduled for Dec 21, I see no harm in being cautious and shifting “Halla Bol” forward. The film’s leading man, Ajay Devgan, sat down with the producers and decided this. I agree completely with their decision,” said Santoshi. Santoshi is currently in Los Angeles finalising the technicians for his two lavish period films, one on emperor Ashoka, which he will begin shooting in the beginning of 2008, and the “Ramayan”, which comes at the end of next year. Both the films have actor Ajay Devgan in the lead.
