Halliburton Company (HAL), the world?s second-largest oil-services firm, has made a $3.4 billion (1.71 billion pounds) cash offer for U.K.-based Expro International Group PLC (PINK: EXPRF). The bid - announced today (Friday) - could touch off a bidding battle for the British oil-services firm, which already has another suitor. The Halliburton bid represents a 6.2% premium over the $3.2 billion bid of a private-equity consortium that includes Candover Partners Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Candover Investments PLC, and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS). “This is not over as I think Candover will come back with another bid,” Jane Coffey, head of equities at…SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Halliburton Trumps Other Suitor by Offering $3.4 Billion for Deep-Sea-Oil Expert", url: "http://jutiagroup.com/2008/05/-24/halliburton-trumps-other-sui-tor-by-offering-34-billion-for--deep-sea-oil-expert/" });
Goldman Sachs and Candover Patners Bidding Against Halliburton
2008-05-24 14:59:00
Halliburton is looking to acquire drilling equipment maker Expro for $3.36 billion; however, now Candover Partners and Goldman Sachs have countered with a bid of their own for $3.4 billion. Although, the offer is only slightly higher then Halliburton's offer, it may strike a bidding war. Analysts speculate that Haliburton's offer holds more merit, as Haliburton is much more likely to keep the company in long run as opposed to investment firms reselling the company shortly afterwards.

Halliburton Bribe Case Haunts Cheney
2008-04-30 06:54:00
by Jason Leopold Dick Cheney’s tenure at Halliburton ended eight years ago, but a federal investigation of alleged bribes from a company subsidiary to Nigerian officials lingers from the Cheney era, raising questions about what the Vice President knew or should have known. In its quarterly filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission on April 25, Halliburton said the Justice Department was widening its probe to determine whether Kellogg Brown & Root paid $180 million in bribes to Nigerian officials to win a $5 billion construction contract for the Bonny Island natural gas liquefaction plant. Halliburton also said the Justice Department is investigating whether bribes were paid to Nigerian officials relating to KBR’s construction of an offshore platform. The bribes allegedly went to the notoriously corrupt Nigerian dictator Sani Abacha and some of his subordinates. The Justice Department "has evidence of payments to Nigerian officials by another agent in c...
How to win the Iraq war debate against your dumb friends
2008-04-10 23:44:00
by Lee Camp Recently I was arguing with one of my dumber friends about the Iraq war. He loves Bush and thinks bigger bombs is the answer in Iraq. I wasn?t gaining any ground in the argument until I used a simple analogy. I said, ?Your solution is like shattering an expensive vase and then saying, ?We need to keep smashing it until it?s fixed.?? I stumped him. He was silent. So here?s a brief list of other analogies you can use on your dumb friends. And the truth is, I?ve seen similar ones work on some of the smartest political pundits. 1) The country of Iraq has essentially been demolished. The right-wingers keep saying the answer is continued large-scale military action. That?s like if someone got into a car accident, went into a coma, and the doctors believed the patient could be healed by more car accidents. So they just keep putting him into cars and sending him off cliffs. 2) I?ve heard people say that being against Bush or Petraeus or the war in Iraq is equivalent to being aga...

Millions of Americans are drinking water tainted with drugs
2008-03-09 23:25:00
If you were grossed out by the generally reasonable idea of drinking recycled sewer water to preserve supplies, you’ll love this–as many as 41 million Americans have been drinking water tainted with trace elements of pharmaceuticals of all shapes, sizes, and effects: ? Officials in Philadelphia said testing there discovered 56 pharmaceuticals or byproducts in treated drinking water, including medicines for pain, infection, high cholesterol, asthma, epilepsy, mental illness and heart problems. Sixty-three pharmaceuticals or byproducts were found in the city’s watersheds. ? Anti-epileptic and anti-anxiety medications were detected in a portion of the treated drinking water for 18.5 million people in Southern California. ? Researchers at the U.S. Geological Survey analyzed a Passaic Valley Water Commission drinking water treatment plant, which serves 850,000 people in Northern New Jersey, and found a metabolized angina medicine and the mood-stabilizing carbamazepine...
US Sens question Halliburton Selling Nuclear Technology to Iran
2008-02-27 14:23:00
Halliburton VP, Sherry Williams testifies at a Senate hearing about the company's dealings with Iran-- Halliburton is charged with selling nuclear technology to Iran. Halliburton, the notorious U.S. energy company, sold key nuclear-reactor components to a private Iranian oil company called Oriental Oil Kish as recently as 2005, using offshore subsidiaries to circumvent U.S. sanctions. The story is particularly juicy because Vice President Dick Cheney, who now claims to want to stop Iran from getting nukes, was president of Halliburton in the mid-1990s, at which time he may have advocated business dealings with Iran, in violation of U.S. law. Source: "Halliburton Secretly Doing Business with Key Member of Iran's Nuclear Team," Jason Leopold, GlobalResearch.ca, Aug. 5, 2005. {Wasn't VP Dick Cheney head of Halliburton at one time?}

Cheney?s Halliburton Stock Rose Over 3000 Percent Last Year
2008-01-12 20:54:00
A cool 3000% interest from a company that takes money from the taxpayer.Can any of the readers think why Halliburton (a company that profits from war and oil) would wish to reward the Vice-President.Vice President Dick Cheney?s stock options in Halliburton rose from $241,498 in 2004 to over $8 million in 2005, an increase of more than 3,000 percent, as Halliburton continues to rake in billions of dollars from no-bid/no-audit government contracts.An analysis released by Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) reveals that as Halliburton?s fortunes rise, so do the Vice President?s. Halliburton has already taken more than $10 billion from the Bush-Cheney administration for work in Iraq. They were also awarded many of the unaccountable post-Katrina government contracts, as off-shore subsidiaries of Halliburton quietly worked around U.S. sanctions to conduct very questionable business with Iran (See Story #2). ?It is unseemly,? notes Lautenberg, ?for the Vice President to continue to benefit fro...

Justice Department has "No Comment" on Halliburton/KBR Rape Case
2008-01-09 15:12:00
Jamie Leigh Jones has had no justice since alleging rape by her Halliburton-KBR co-workers. She says Army doctors turned the results of her "rape kit" to Halliburton-KBR security officials in Baghdad. Not surprisingly, the evidence disappeared. There have been many alleged rapes in a Halliburton-KBR atmosphere of "rampant sexual harassment", but only Jones has had the courage to go public to force an investigation. AlterNet Last month, after ABC News reported that former Halliburton/KBR employee Jamie Leigh Jones had been gang-raped by her co-workers while working in Baghdad, multiple lawmakers -- including Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX), Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) -- pressed the Bush administration to reveal the state of the case and to explain how an earlier investigation "had not resulted in any prosecution." The Bush administration has been anything but cooperative. Both the State and Justice departments refused to give Poe "answers on the status" of the inv...

Halliburton: We don?t just rape countries and economies, we rape employees
2007-12-12 03:32:00
Imagine it. You’re a patriotic Army bride who goes overseas to support the war in Iraq, only to be drugged and brutally raped and assaulted. Imagine being locked in a container for days with no food or water or contact with the outside world after you reported this horrible crime, your only avenue being a cellphone lent to you by a sympathetic guard. Imagine being sent home and having to get extensive surgery for your wounds and counseling for your scars, only to be told you would lose your job if you went home, and that you could seek no legal recourse because of the arbitration clause in your contract that prevents you from taking anyone to court. Now imagine that this all happened at the hands of employees of Halliburton, one of the biggest war-profiteering companies in the world, and its subsidiary Kellogg, Brown, & Root (KBR). On second thought, don’t imagine it–just read the story of Jamie Leigh Jones, because this horror actually happened to her–...

Texas Woman: Gang-Rape Cover-Up by U.S., Halliburton/KBR
2007-12-10 22:45:00
A Houston, Texas woman says she was gang-raped by Halliburton/KBR coworkers in Baghdad, and the company and the U.S. government are covering up the incident. Jamie Leigh Jones, now 22, says that after she was raped by multiple men at a KBR camp in the Green Zone, the company put her under guard in a shipping container with a bed and warned her that if she left Iraq for medical treatment, she’d be out of a job. In a lawsuit filed in federal court against Halliburton and its then-subsidiary KBR, Jones says she was held in the shipping container for at least 24 hours without food or water by KBR, which posted armed security guards outside her door, who would not let her leave. Now this lawsuit actually sounds like it has some legs, because the State Department actually intervened and rescued her from the shipping container! “It felt like prison,” says Jones, who told her story to ABC News as part of an upcoming “20/20″ investigation. “I was upset; I...

Halliburton, Cheney, Republicans, Bush And You!

Call this a conspiracy theory or just a coincident, but while the MSM has been asleep on the job. The President, Vice President and the former Republican ruled House and Senate were busy.It would appear that Halliburton subsidiary KBR (formerly Kellogg Brown and Root) was awarded a $385 million contingency contract by the Department of Homeland Security to build detention camps. Over 800 concentration camps are reported throughout the United States, all fully operational and ready to receive U.S. Prisoners who disagree with the government. The concentration camps are all staffed and manned by full-time guards, however, they are all empty. These camps are to be operated by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) when Martial Law is implemented in the United States (at the stroke of a Presidential pen and the Attorney General's signature on a warrant).The camps have railroad facilities as well as roads leading to and from the detention facilities, many have airports. HALLIBURTON!
2007-11-25 11:12:00
Miss Sherry Williams defends Halliburton's business dealings in Iran which began in 1978 long before sanctions against the country were enacted. The construction and services company KBR, formally known as Kellogg, Brown and Root and a subsidiary of oil-services giant Halliburton until April, topped the list with more than 16 billion dollars in US contracts from 2004 to 2006. Halliburton was led from 1995 to 2000 by Vice President Dick Cheney, one of the most hawkish voices in the administration of President George W. Bush in the run-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Miss Williams was asked questions by Senator Byron Doron, who lets everyone know that Cheney still receives money from said company. I recall Pelosi being jumped all over for making a trip to Syria, a country our President deems a terrorist country. How and why does our President and the Republican party not jump all over Vice President Cheney for receiving money from a company that was still dealing with Iran, another ...

Although he has been consistent in his endorsement of the stock, its performance since October 2005 is below market averages. While oil prices have increased over the past few years, the price of natural gas has fallen after the highs it made after the hurricane Katrina disaster, dragging Halliburton down with it. Recently though, with natural gas prices rising in 2007, Halliburton has regained its mojo, heading back to pre-split levels.

Halliburton under fire at Senate committee
2007-05-02 08:03:00
Author:  Patrick O'ConnorThe new Democratic sheriff in town has a different set of suspects he likes to round up every now and then, and Halliburton?s at the top of that list. On Monday, the company sent vice president Shirley Williams to the firing line, where she took her share of shots for Halliburton?s involvement in Iran. Not a single Republican was on hand to back her up. Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) organized the hearing of the Interstate Commerce, Trade and Tourism Subcommittee to take a few swings at the punching bag. The principal complaint is that Halliburton violated the spirit, if not the letter, of U.S. sanctions laws by doing business with Iran through a subsidiary. ?Why on Earth would we allow that?? Dorgan wondered. ?It?s impossible to imagine that American companies would try to circumvent the law,? said Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-N.J.), accusing Iran of bringing the unimaginable to reality. ?Money is the lifeblood of terrorism,? he added, glaring at Williams....
