Hammurabi, no sólo fue uno de los primeros y más relevantes reyes del imperio babilónico, sino que además se caracteriza por ser el primer rey en instaurar el código de leyes. Este código de leyes contiene la conocida Ley de Talión del "ojo por ojo, diente por diente", en la que se pretendía que cualquier delito fuera castigado con una sanción de la misma magnitud.
